Chapter 343: Chapter 170 Rewards and Penalties_2
The crowd of demon hunters naturally gravitated towards Long Dangdang and his group. They weren’t drawn to the Demon Suppression Tree, but to Ling Menglu’s divine array formation! Ling Menglu, positioned within the divine array formation, occasionally released healing techniques. Each team had a priest, but who could compare to the Goddess? Dispersing poisons, healing, recuperating. Naturally, this attracted other demon hunters.
It was then, a deep voice echoed, "Welcome to the magical beasts forest. For the next month, this place will serve as your test field."
Three figures slowly descended from the sky. It was none other than the three instructors: Devil, Madman, and Succubus.
The Devil Instructor’s gaze swept over the dead bodies of the magical beasts on the ground. Then he looked towards the crowd and said lightly, "You all disappoint me. Out of all ten teams, only one immediately considered the Federation’s policy towards magical beasts. The beasts you’ve killed have been carefully recorded and will affect your demon hunter merits. And not in the positive way, they will decrease. All teams who had killed a beast before will have their demon hunter points turned to negative. At the end of the three-month training, if a team’s points are still negative, you will be stripped of your demon hunter qualifications."
Upon hearing this, everyone’s faces turned grim. They hadn’t been aware that training for reserve demon hunters directly ties into their demon hunter merit points.
The Devil Instructor’s gaze then moved to Long Dangdang’s team, and he nodded slightly, saying, "Demon Hunter Team 19115897, you reacted correctly at the very beginning. You did not kill any magical beasts and even offered help to other teams after landing safely. This action has earned you a bonus. Each team member is awarded ten merit points. For the other teams, killing a breezy falcon reduces two merit points, a green tree python, ten points. The changes to your merit points will be updated via Spirit Crystal. You can also check the updated merit points by connecting your Spirit Crystal with your merit bangle. The deducted merit points of a team will be averaged among its members. Any questions?"
No one made a sound. Even though they knew they’d been set up, they didn’t react in time. They had to accept it.
The Devil Instructor continued, "Next, you will embark on your first mission. Your mission is to survive for the next month in the magical beasts forest. At the same time, you need to tame magical beasts. Remember, you are to tame them, not kill them. Killing a magical beast will result in a reduction of merit points based on the beast’s strength. Taming a magical beast will earn merit points."
"How can we tame the magical beasts? Even if we are summoners, we have never learned such knowledge." The member standing next to Zisang Liuying, Cai Caijuan befuddled asked.
The Devil Instructor gave her a cold look, "Whoever wants to talk, raise your hand first, then call out ’report’. Interrupting an instructor will result in a deduction of five merits. If this reoccurs, the deduction will be doubled."
Stunned, Cai Caijuan raised her beautiful eyebrows, about to burst into anger. But before she could get a word out, Chu Yu interposed himself between her and the instructor, stifling her words.
Without a fuss, the Devil Instructor said, "How to tame magical beasts is your problem, not mine. I’m only here to relay your tasks. Also, always keep an eye on the sky. Signals will occasionally appear in the sky, and you must enter the scope of the signal coverage. Otherwise, you will be eliminated. Those eliminated will have a hundred merit points deducted. As I said before, at the end of the three-month training, any team with negative merits will lose their demon hunter qualifications. We will monitor your actions, but we won’t assist you when you’re in danger. If dead, you’re dead. We’re only responsible for recording your actions. Now, disperse."
The three instructors then faded away. In the blink of an eye, they disappeared from the scene. This act alone emblazoned a profound cue on everyone’s mind.
Taming monstrous beasts and area changes. Most of the crowd didn’t even fully understand what this meant. Yet, training had already begun.
As the instructors departed, the reserve demon hunting teams gathered into their respective groups to whisper amongst themselves with some even using the Spirit Crystal to communicate. At this moment, no team came to the aid of the others, it was every team for themselves. Their attitudes shifted to a tense state from the moment they heard their training was directly linked to their demon hunter merits.
Demon hunter merits are related to future promotions as well as acquiring rewards from the Demon Hunters Headquarters. They were all reserve demon hunters, and undoubtedly, this training served as a watershed moment for them,
Long Dangdang and his colleagues, Demon Hunter Team 19115897, were no exception as they congregated too. Subconsciously, everyone’s focus was centered on Long Dangdang.
"Let’s go first. Follow me." Without any explanation, he strode off in one direction. The others had no choice but to follow behind him. After they’d traveled about five hundred meters, Long Dangdang suddenly stopped beside a giant tree with a wide trunk. "Let’s rest awhile. Ming Xi, would you mind scouting from the treetop? Notify me when the other teams have left."
"Okay." Ming Xi didn’t ask any more questions. With one swift movement, she vanished, as though she had instantaneously teleported. Her speed was incredible, befitting of the Flash Assassin.
Long Kongkong looked at Long Dangdang somewhat curiously, "Big bro, what are you up to?"
Long Dangdang replied, "Nothing. Just wait."
Long Kongkong blinked, not pressing further. But Long Dangdang noticed some activity on his Spirit Crystal online immediately afterward.
In a private chat thread labeled "Luminous Moon," Long Kongkong messaged Long Dangdang. "Every time you say ’nothing,’ it definitely means something. Are you up to no good?" No one knew each other better than these two brothers.
Ignoring his comment, Long Dangdang just glared at him. He then discovered that there were changes on his Spirit Crystal online. Now, the only group he could join was ’Luminous Moon.’ He couldn’t access the ’Holy City’s Sextet’. His privileges for the reserve training must have been restricted.
It didn’t take long for them to hear the sounds of nearby teams passing by. Long Dangdang signaled to the others to quietly retreat and hide behind the giant tree, silently waiting.
After a short while, Ming Xi returned.
"Chief, everyone has left," she told Long Dangdang.
Long Dangdang nodded, "Let’s wait a little longer."
He didn’t explain further. His cousin had added that as the leader, his orders should be followed without question. And explaining every minute detail could indeed be very tiresome. All he needed to do now was prove through his actions that his decisions were correct.
After five more minutes, Long Dangdang got up, "Let’s go, we’re heading back." He then led the way back in the direction they came from.
A thoughtful light flickered in Ling Menglu’s eyes, as she was the only one who had a rough idea of Long Dangdang’s intent. Everyone else simply followed behind, somewhat confused.
They quickly returned to their initial landing site. By now, the place was deserted as all the demon hunter teams had already left to carry out their individual missions.
Long Dangdang surveyed their surroundings, then turned to Ling Menglu, "Cousin, activate the Scouting Eye."
Ling Menglu gave him a thumbs up. The leader of a team does not necessarily have to be the strongest, but it should definitely be the most level-headed. Any moment of negligence can potentially lead to the team’s downfall.
