Chapter 258: Chapter 128: 6th Rank Glorious Class Knight_1
After hearing Small Tree’s explanation, Long Kongkong’s daydreams were completely shattered. For him who was only at the 4th Rank, reaching the 6th Rank seemed like a distant prospect. Nevertheless, he gained some new insights about himself.
Previously, during the practical examination and while facing the wraith legion, they more often contended with external enemies. Nothing had been as shocking as his cousin’s forbidden spell. He had always considered himself, perhaps even the entire Spirit Furnace Academy, to be the weakest. But after the first two rounds of the demon hunting team selection, he began to realize that owning three spirit furnaces, especially after acquiring the Divine Prayers Small Tree Spirit Furnace, he had substantially improved. Although his cultivation level was still insufficient, with the aid of Small Tree, he should be no weaker than any 5th Rank knight. Of course, this all depended on his opponents not being aware of his hidden strength.
Thinking back to the attack by the green-armored woman, who certainly was a 7th Rank undead, he only survived due to Small Tree’s protection and the unexpected intervention of the foodie Sky Devouring Rodent, who blocked two fatal attacks for him. Otherwise, his fate would have been far less certain.
Speaking of the foodie...
Long Kongkong hastily pulled out all twenty servings of rib dishes he had purchased from his storage bangle - ten servings of rib rice and ten servings of rib noodles. He had promised this to the Sky Devouring Rodent, which is why he had visited the rib shop earlier. Hep Benn was at school, and only Father Hep was present. This purchase almost fulfilled all of the lunch orders Father Hep had, so he even offered a discount which Kongkong refused. He paid quickly and left.
"Foodie, it’s time to eat," Long Kongkong said, attempting to open the contract space to summon the Sky Devouring Rodent.
"Idiot, don’t call me foodie! Call me Sky Devouring Emperor!" The Sky Devouring Rodent replied with dissatisfaction. Still, his plump body squeezed out of the contract space.
As soon as it emerged, its sharp nose twitched twice, followed by a bright twinkle in its eyes. Without paying any heed to Long Kongkong, it quickly lunged forwards and began feasting.
It ate with lightning speed. A serving of rib noodles was sucked into its mouth with a single slurp. It chewed a couple of times and swallowed. Then, it was onto the next serving.
The Sky Devouring Rodent’s eyes twinkled brightly. Delicious, so delicious. Although these things didn’t have much energy, the taste was simply too good, far better than anything it had eaten in its old world. It almost ate its own tongue in its enthusiasm.
Long Kongkong watched, amazed at the creature’s appetite. True to its name, the foodie managed to consume all twenty servings of the rib feast in less than ten minutes.
Its stomach was noticeably rounder, and it grunted in satisfaction. It rubbed its belly with its paw, licking its lips continuously. Not until it had slurped up even the last bit of leftover broth did it stop.
"How is it? Delicious, right?" asked Long Kongkong.
The Sky Devouring Rodent gave him a glance, its eyes noticeably softer than before. It grunted, saying, "It’s alright. Remember to treat this Emperor with such reverence in the future, okay?"
Long Kongkong chuckled, saying, "Emperor, now that you’ve eaten so much, maybe you should consider doing some exercise? Wouldn’t you be in trouble if you got so fat that you couldn’t walk?"
The Sky Devouring Rodent grunted dismissively, saying, "This little bit of food is nothing. Even if it were a mountain, this Emperor could eat it. The larger my body, the stronger I am. If it weren’t for wanting to savor the taste, I could’ve digested them immediately. Are you trying to get me to help you in the contest? Isn’t your Spirit Furnace functioning well enough?"
Long Kongkong chuckled again, replying, "The next round is crucial! If I win, I can basically guarantee my promotion to the demon hunting team. Losing would be problematic. With you, Emperor, isn’t that more secure?"
The Sky Devouring Rodent replied nonchalantly, "I suppose I can help, but every time I do, you have to offer this Emperor a feast. The meals can’t be worse than today’s, and they can be even bigger. If the food could be more energy-rich and still taste this good, that would be perfect."
"No problem. All you want is food, right? Leave it to me," Long Kongkong assured him immediately.
"Hmm, this Emperor is going to sleep now," the Sky Devouring Rodent said, swaying its plump body as it returned to the contract space, a space it could open and close at will without needing Long Kongkong to do it.
Long Kongkong could not help but be delighted. Foodies will always be foodies! He had successfully bribed it with just a meal. The benefit was twofold; he helped Father Hep sell food and satisfied the foodie Sky Devouring Rodent. All was well.
After two rounds of the demon hunting team’s selection battles, most of the nearly eight hundred participants were eliminated. The upcoming third round was critical. Those who performed well earlier may advance directly to the top ten after this round, officially entering the demon hunting team. Those who performed relatively poorly would need an additional round to secure the last spots.
As the third round was about to begin, the atmosphere became increasingly tense.
