Hep Benn gave her father a look and replied, “You’re that eager to marry me off! Don’t all fathers hate to see their daughters leave?”

Father Hep chuckled, “I’m not eager to either. But girls can’t stay home forever. The decision will be out of your hands.”

Hep Benn countered, “I won’t marry. I’ll stay home and live off of you.”

Warmth filled Father Hep’s eyes, “I will age, and I can’t take care of you forever. What I hope for you is a good household. It doesn’t need to be rich, just kind to you.”

“Uncle Hep, what do you think of me? I can help you raise Hep Benn. You can just hand her off to me in the future.” Long Kongkong strode out of the kitchen with a small bowl containing rib stew and a small piece of rib. Recently, he’s been handling all the stew processing, this was to let Father Hep taste and decide whether more seasoning was needed.

Father Hep took the small bowl and chided, “You have quite the dream. Your Sister Hep is the top student of the academy, aiming for the Federation’s government office. How is your study at the academy? Kongkong, listen to your Uncle Hep. Love matters! Two together need to match in many ways, or problems will come.”

Yet, Long Kongkong didn’t think much of it and grinned, “If Sister Hep allows, I could work hard.”

Hep Benn frowned at him and admonished, “How old are you? Not even fifteen, right? And you’re already pondering these things. How will you work hard?”

Father Hep laughed heartily, “Indeed! This boy of yours is still growing a fuzz, and he’s already thinking of finding a wife? Get back to work now, add a little more salt.”

“Alright.” Long Kongkong jovially went back to work. He wasn’t in a rush. Time would prove everything.

There were many customers at noon. After they were nearly done, Father Hep went to rest in the back. The back kitchen has a small room, only big enough for a single bed. Father Hep would nap there every afternoon.

Long Kongkong replied, “I want to visit my relatives for a while. How about I come early tomorrow, put the ribs on simmer, and leave when everything is ready, will that work?”

Hep Benn glanced at him, remained silent for a while, and then said, “Ok, then you can take the day off.”

Feeling her changed mood, Long Kongkong nudged her and asked, “Sis, do you miss me, or do you have something going on?”

Hep Benn’s charming face lit up, “Alright. Later, you go and buy some fruits and dried fruits. Although we run a small restaurant, we can’t afford to overlook our guests. My classmates are all nice. About a dozen or so people are expected to attend. Most of them are girls, and yes, there are a few boys.”
