Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Once the Scar Heals, the Pain is Forgotten

Li Hai felt so dizzy and disoriented that he covered his forehead with his dry hands.

Inside, he felt even more anxious. If Chen Dashan really demanded compensation, the amount would undoubtedly be astronomical. Besides, he had already invested in the orchard. Wasn’t Li Xiaobao, the fool, cutting off their own financial lifeline by poisoning it?

"Wretch! Wretch!"

Li Hai cursed angrily. Seeing that his usually indulgent father wasn’t siding with him, and looking at the chaotic mess of the room and Zhao Yaqian, the flirty woman, Li Xiaobao felt a surge of frustration in his heart.

He pushed Li Hai, who was blocking his way, and said, "You all are afraid of Chen Dashan, but I am not!"

With that, he disappeared into the vast night.

Li Hai watched his son’s retreating figure, his brows furrowed tightly, and he shook his head helplessly.

Seeing his daughter-in-law acting as if nothing happened, sitting at the dressing table and grooming herself in the middle of the night, Li Hai forced a smile, approached Zhao Yaqian, and said, "Qianqian, Xiaobao is immature. Don’t take it to heart. Dad knows that it is all because of you that our family could connect with Chen Dashan. And about this matter, you must make Chen Dashan satisfied. If it comes to paying compensation, where would our family get the money from?"

"Besides, even if we had money, wouldn’t it all be for you and Xiaobao?"

Li Hai smiled ingratiatingly, his words filled with flattery.

Zhao Yaqian tilted her chin up, looking somewhat haughty as she said, "I know, you think I wanted this? When I got involved with Chen Dashan, wasn’t it because you forced me?"

"Yes, yes, yes, you are the great merit-holder of the Old Li Family!"

Li Hai laughed, his crow’s feet so deep they could trap mosquitoes, and looking around, he continued, "You should get some sleep tonight. I’ll make up for the household appliances and such in a couple of days, but you really need to put more effort into dealing with Chen Dashan."

Li Hai feared offending Chen Dashan, worried about spoiling his dreams of wealth.

...

Two days passed in a blink of an eye.

Today was the day Huangmei Town was hosting the competition. Early in the morning, Peng Hu picked up Chen Dashan to head to Huangmei Town.

Leading the way was Peng Hu’s black Land Rover, followed by two J28 business vehicles. The entourage consisted of thirteen people, all Peng Hu’s subordinates participating in the competition.

When the Land Rover arrived at Stone Village, the villagers were once again shocked.

When had their Stone Village ever seen such wealthy outsiders? And with such a grand entourage, knowing they were here to pick up Chen Dashan, the villagers revered him even more.

The journey was quiet.

Suddenly, Peng Hu spoke, "Brother Chen, don’t be too tense. Just perform normally. If the opponent is too strong, we can’t seek death. Just admit defeat!"

Peng Hu wore a black short-sleeve outfit with a large "Martial" character printed on the T-shirt. Today, he had abandoned his usual flashy attire, removed the thick gold necklace, and wore a string of subdued prayer beads on his wrist.

His face was pale, and he kept breathing heavily, continuously fingering the prayer beads in his hand, which were wet with his sweat.

Chen Dashan glanced at him.

Who exactly was nervous here?

Seeing that Chen Dashan was silent, Peng Hu took a deep breath and said, "Don’t worry, no matter what, I’m still here. I, Peng Hu, have been around for many years, I still have some influence."

Chen Dashan nodded.

The situation was unclear, so he refrained from boasting. If they truly couldn’t overcome the adversary, he wouldn’t rush to his death just for a million.

Through the car window, the lush greenery continuously receded behind them.

An hour’s drive later, they entered Huangmei Town’s territory. The Land Rover drove straight into a beautifully scenic area. Along the way, flowers bloomed in profusion, the scenery picturesque, surpassing that of Red Leaf Resort.

Peng Hu got out of the car and personally handed over the invitation card, only then did the security check let him in.

The management of public safety was strict; as cars entered the parking lot, attendants immediately came to assist with parking.

After Chen Dashan got out of the car, he looked around, and from the parking lot alone, he could tell that this place was no ordinary venue. Most of the cars in the parking lot were imported luxury vehicles, including Maybachs and Lamborghinis.

Such luxury cars were nowhere to be seen in Longshan Town; Peng Hu’s Land Rover was at best basic here.

"Brother Chen, this way."

Peng Hu, a step behind, reminded Chen Dashan as several beautiful female attendants led Peng Hu and his group towards the interior of the lobby.

Chen Dashan quietly surveyed the entire building. It was built in a modern Chinese architectural style, luxurious without lacking elegance. The lobby’s floor was as reflective as a mirror, pristine, with dragon-shaped crystal chandeliers hanging overhead, lifelike and majestic.

The lobby was vast, and everywhere revealed the four characters for "affluence and boldness." The attendants, eyes downcast, each wore a uniform, their looks rivaling flight attendants.

"Oh, isn’t that my defeated rival, Peng Hu?"

A loud voice of mockery rang out, and Chen Dashan looked up to see a middle-aged man in a business suit, his hair slicked back sleekly, approaching with a smile that boded no good.

In his hand, adorned with a large gold ring, he held a cigar; he was followed by seven or eight sturdy men in black suits.

Turning his head, Peng Hu saw Lin Bao coming and his face turned iron blue. "Who’s the defeated rival isn’t certain yet, today I’ll make you spit teeth."

"Is that so?"

Lin Bao responded with a laugh rather than anger. With a look of contempt, he eyed Peng Hu: "Wasn’t your arm crippled by me last time? Is it fixed now?"

"You really have forgotten the pain when your wound heals!"

"Hahaha..."

Lin Bao’s followers laughed uproariously behind him, their voices deafening.

People came and went in the lobby, many curious onlookers stopped to watch, and quite a few who recognized Lin Bao and Peng Hu wore expressions of anticipation, shouting for Peng Hu to make a move.

Peng Hu and his followers felt their cheeks burning, having been beaten last time was a fact.

But for Lin Bao to do this was undoubtedly a public slap in Peng Hu’s face—if he did not retaliate, how would he have any say in the future?

"Shut your mouth, today I’ve come to teach you a lesson, to tell you not to be too arrogant!" Peng Hu stepped forward, looking down at Lin Bao.

"Who do you want to teach a lesson to?"

A deep male voice came from behind, and everyone turned to see a middle-aged man in a Zhongshan suit, with long eyebrows and large ears, his eyes coldly fixed on Peng Hu.

Peng Hu’s eyes widened, his previous arrogance dissipating instantly.

Lin Bao, with a smug smile, shoved Peng Hu aside and respectfully said to the newcomer, "Master Liu, you’ve arrived?"

Chen Dashan looked up; this Master Liu must be the master who broke Peng Hu’s arm last time. He moved with a brisk step, seemingly carrying a touch of the Gang Wind at his feet, his stance solid.

Everyone bowed reverently. In the lobby, there were whispers: "This Master Liu is the reigning champion, said to be very skilled, dominating the ring for many years without any rivals."

"Yes, who in the neighboring towns doesn’t show respect to Master Liu?"

"Surely this time’s champion is still Master Liu..."

Lin Bao listened to the crowd’s discussion with a smug look and whispered to Peng Hu, "This time, your life will be left behind!"
