Chapter 222: Chapter – 201 – A Sudden Change Of Plans

Cole’s Point Of View

As I watched everyone say their farewells, I noticed that Tristan had been wearing an awkward smile, but his eyes were a whirlpool of emotions.

It was clear that he was once again planning to do something dangerous. He went on to hug everyone. Picking up Arellany, and hugging him tightly as he kissed his face all over.

Those weren’t the actions of someone who was just being overly affectionate. After watching him closely, I had a sudden realization.

’He plans to stay here... Fuck....’

There was no doubt in my mind that Tristan was planning to stay behind, and not accompany his siblings to the sade house. I knew that if he had already resolved to make this decision, there was no way we could talk him out of it.

I looked over at Sylvester, who had also began to watch Tristan closely, and realized that we were probably having the same thoughts. If his clouded expression was anything to go by.

"So it’s true then, Tristan?" Sable asked, as perceptive as always.

"Yeah... It would be nearly impossible for me to do anything else..." He murmured softly.

The sadness in his eyes, and the overwhelming sorrow that filled me unexpectedly, sent a shiver down my spine. It was obvious that he had agonized over this decision for quite some time.

His flood of emotions were incredibly painful to bare. I noticed that Ferdinand and Bellamy had also locked eyes on Tristan after feeling his suddenly oppressive emotions.

They immediately looked at him, fear and anger surging through them as they realized his intentions as well. Tristan stiffened immediately, and glanced around nervously.

"Tristan. We need to talk." Ferdinand said, doing a poor job reigning in his anger.

"Everyone, prepare to depart shortly." Sylvester said, trying to distract the nervous onlookers.

Tristan said nothing and hugged his siblings, and children a final time. Placing a kiss atop each of their heads as he gave them a half-hearted smile. They looked at him with worried expressions, but didn’t ask any questions.

Having said everything that he had wanted to say to each of them, Tristan then turned around and left the room without a word. He didn’t spare a passing glance at any of us while he did so.

"It’s fine. Don’t worry about it." Payhne said, doing his best to console Arrisa.

"Don’t ask the impossible of me, Payhne..." Arrisa sighed.

I wasted no time following after Tristan after he left the room completely. I knew that Sylvester, Bellamy, and Ferdinand were also following close behind without even looking back.

I watched Tristan as he steadily made his way to the library a little ways down the hall. Once we reached the room, Tristan was already seated on a sofa his legs propped up on it as well.

If not for the bonded link between us, one would think that he was completely at peace with his situation and circumstances. However, his turbulent emotions were weighing down on us heavily.

"Sit. Speak. I will hear all your worries and chastisement now." Tristan said, closing his eyes and resting his head on his arms behind his head.

"What are you thinking staying here and not going to the safe house with everyone else?" Ferdinand asked, kneeling down on the floor beside the lounging Tristan.

"Your safety is our utmost priority, and yet you wish to stay here in the eye of the storm?" Sylvester added, his voice tinged with confusion.

"I refuse to allow you to stay, and put you in harms way. The whole reason we are doing this is for your own protection!" Bellamy said, his anger seeping into his words.

I said nothing, and sat on the sofa with him, placing his legs atop my own. Throughout all the complaints, Tristan didn’t move. He simply listened without responding.

"Cole? Anything you want to add?" Tristan asked, after a long awkward silence.

"No. I will not question your decision. I also know that there is no swaying you once your mind has been made up." I replied, rubbing his feel gently.

At that, he finally opened his eyes and looked at me quizzically. In contrast, the other Alphas were all regarding me with angry, irritated glares.

I didn’t know why they were looking at me like that, they should know how stubborn their mate was by now.

"Haah... It’s the only option we have..." Tristan said with a deep sigh.

"What do you mean?" Bellamy asked, his anger simmering down.

"How long do you think this battle will take?" Tristan asked, ignoring Bellamy’s question.

"There is no telling. At best a week, worst a month. Why?" Sylvester replied.

"Ferdinand, how long can I survive without my Alphas and their pheromones?" Tristan asked dryly.

A heavy silence fell over the room. In our haste to protect Tristan, we had overlooked one glaringly obvious fundamental problem with our Mated Bond.

"On top of that, any pain or discomfort that I endured in your absence would only distract you in your fight. Ultimately making me worry about you to the point of insanity... So as I said before, we do not have a choice..." Tristan said firmly.

Silence once again permeated the room. It was obvious that we were all having the same thoughts, much to our dismay.

’Well... Can’t argue with that...’

"So how do we move forward from here? I do not wish to endanger your life..." Ferdinand asked, his voice defeated and forlorn.

"We must send the others away as soon as possible. The longer they stay, the more we risk their safety. Once they are gone, and safely make it to the safe house, the only person you will need to protect is me. That would be far easier than protecting everyone, no?" Tristan said, cupping Ferdinand’s cheek and rubbing it with his thumb.

"I really don’t like this... Even though I understand, I still don’t like it." Sylvester grumbled.

"I have the utmost faith in my strong and fierce Alphas. You will not fail me." Tristan said softly.

’Well... We damn sure can’t fail him now, right?’
