Chapter 575: Chapter 384: Ruthless People Don’t Talk Much!
Sean Knight reached out to pick up the object below and started to carefully scrutinize it.
It was an arm-thick, half-meter-long, exquisitely cast object resembling a scepter, with intricate patterns on it.
Sean wasn’t sure what metal the scepter was made of; it had a pale gold color with a hint of silver. The patterns seemed to be flowing in the incidental light, but not upon closer inspection.
His focus, however, was on the top of the scepter. At the end of this metal scepter, three small claws held onto a transparent, uncut stone.
The stone was the size of a baby’s fist!
Through Sean’s Sky Eye, he could see that it was a diamond in the rough!
This thing... has some real potential!
As Sean was admiring the diamond, Douglas Cooper entered the room, intending to show off his latest findings. However, he caught sight of the object in Sean’s hand.
"Holy shit!" Douglas exclaimed, "Boss, that’s... that’s amazing!"
Sean waved the scepter around, feeling it was quite light, not heavy like gold.
However, he could also feel that its texture was strong and wouldn’t break easily.
"It’s a good find," Sean chuckled. "So, what treasure did you dig up?"
"No, no, no, we didn’t dig up treasure; we found a massive bone!"
"A massive bone?" Sean asked curiously as he walked out with the scepter. "How big of a bone?"
"About this high," Douglas gestured. "Up to my thigh."
That’s not small at all!
"It’s probably a leg bone, but we’re not sure if it’s from an animal or a human," Douglas said. "If it’s human, then this person must have been incredibly tall!"
Sean didn’t respond but looked over to where Elijah Hastings and the others were standing.
That was a rare open space among the megalithic site.
Behind several stone houses, there was a vacant area about the size of a basketball court. Since there were no stones there, Sean hadn’t paid much attention to it before.
But now, Oscar Knight, Lincoln Harrington, and Elijah Hastings were all there.
Sean walked over with the scepter in hand.
"Boss, what are you holding? It looks like it’s glowing!" Elijah shouted.
"A scepter I just dug up," Sean waved it, saying, "The glow you saw is probably from the stone reflecting the sunshine, right?"
"No," Elijah shook his head. "I just saw the whole scepter glowing as if it came alive... Maybe it was an illusion, it’s gone now."
Sean was already close to them and saw the bone that had not yet been fully dug up.
The Sky Eye scanned it, showing that it was indeed a human bone.
Approximately eighty centimeters long leg bone.
A thigh bone.
Sean couldn’t help but click his tongue— this leg bone was so long; the person must have been three or four meters tall!
Was that even a human?
Sean jumped into the pit with the scepter, squatting down to examine the bone closely.
The bone was milky white, jade-like in texture, and seemed to have turned into a fossil.
For some reason, Sean felt a strong energy contained within the leg bone.
He reached out to touch it but couldn’t absorb the energy.
He couldn’t press his forehead against it with others around.
It was a bit frustrating.
So, he couldn’t help but tap the leg bone with the scepter.
Then, something strange happened!
After Sean tapped it with the scepter, the previously jade-like leg bone quickly turned gray, dry, and porous.
In a moment, cracks appeared on the surface, then the bone fractured and crumbled!
This change left everyone, including Sean, dumbfounded!
"Boss... that was impressive!" Douglas said, his mouth agape after a long pause. "We couldn’t even dent it with a shovel, not even a scratch, and you broke it with just a light tap... "
"Enough of that; it’s clearly because it’s been exposed to the air and weathered!" Sean quickly explained, not wanting to give others the impression that he was a charlatan.
Of course, he also felt that when he tapped the leg bone with the scepter, the energy from the bone was instantly absorbed into the scepter.
So, without the energy to support the leg bone, it broke and weathered.
"Are there any other bones in this area?" Sean asked while scanning the area with his Sky Eye.
Unfortunately, there were none.
"No, this area seems to have been created just to bury this leg bone," Lincoln said. "Look, it’s buried deeper than anything else around here."
Sean had noticed this earlier; the leg bone was buried a meter and a half underground. It’s a wonder who could have dug so deep to uncover it.
By then, the sun had begun to set, so Sean climbed out of the pit and said:
"Alright, let’s call it a day. Let’s clean up, prepare dinner, and arrange a place to rest for the night."
With Sean’s command, everyone started to pack up and perform their assigned tasks.
Sean also joined in, going to the room where the smoked meat was stored. Despite the stench, he took a piece of smoked deer meat off the wall and quickly left.
Douglas had the different items inside organized but left the meat untouched.
He wasn’t sure if he didn’t like it or believed it would be useful in the future.
Since the temperature was low, the meat was stored quite well, even though it was not perfectly smoked. It hadn’t spoiled.
Sean took the smoked deer meat outside, found a spot, took out some water, and washed it thoroughly before heading to the cooking area.
