Chapter 503: Chapter 348: The Truth is Revealed - Playing Cards in an Unconventional Way_2
"1.8 million dollars, well, this has gained quite a reputation.
Assuming what Sean Knight was thinking, Robert explained:
"Don’t compare others with your own achievements. Being able to find a treasure worth millions of dollars all at once is already considered quite impressive in the treasure hunting world.
After all, it’s quite a delight for an ordinary treasure hunter to find a single gold coin in a week."
Having listened to Robert’s words, Sean Knight felt a sense of shame. Had he become somewhat overconfident?
A gold coin--well, even a few thousand dollars are still money. He used to feel quite happy earning a few thousand dollars from shipping containers.
He sighed, those days were truly gone forever.
Robert continued to speak:
"Bellamy Lang paid the bills, and the Kickapoo provided the manpower to find Swan Lake-- Brown is already dead, but we guess that with a high possibility, Brown was the man behind the scenes for Bellamy Lang, it’s just that now that Brown is dead, there’s no way to proof it."
Sean Knight then realized-- no wonder these people were able to go deep into the forest to hunt for treasures around Swan Lake, they had Brown backing them up behind the scenes!
But why would Brown do this? After all, that was his territory.
"The probable reason Brown did this is because he was about to declare bankruptcy. If the team he supported found the treasure, then with a high possibility, the stuff found would be used to settle his debts."
Robert’s explanation perfectly made sense to Sean Knight.
Whatever the other teams brought up, Brown could safely take behind the scenes without the worry of his creditors taking it away.
Truly cunning and deceptive indeed!
It’s a pity that even the most brilliant mind can’t withstand a single bullet.
"So even though Brown is dead, Bellamy Lang believes there is still something to find, so he continues to salvage."
As Robert finished speaking, Sean Knight had figured out the whole process.
"So, you’re saying, even if I get them to leave through legal means for now, they will have reasons to continue delaying, right?"
"In theory, yes." Robert said, "After all, the current domestic atmosphere is indeed very protective of Native Americans. Their claims will be supported to some extent..."
"But I’m still going to push it through legally." Sean Knight said, "Thank you, Robert, I find that you have become quite professional now."
"Thank you for your compliments, I’ll continue to work hard."
After hanging up, Sean Knight checked the time, it was getting late, so he didn’t call Kathy Lewis.
Early the next morning, after washing up, he took out a bowl of steaming dumplings from the spatial realm and finished eating, put the bowl back, and then called Kathy Lewis.
Kathy Lewis answered the phone and was very surprised:
"Mr. Knight, how are you guys doing now?"
Sean Knight had previously told Kathy Lewis that she could not call him unless he called first--he had called before leaving his base and then there was no news for several days.
"I’m doing well." Sean Knight laughed, "But there is something that needs you to handle."
"Please tell me." Kathy Lewis felt it was always good to have things to do.
Sean Knight explained the situation, and Kathy Lewis immediately said:
"This is easy, I can have our lawyer send a letter to that company today, and I believe they should be able to respond today."
Sean Knight said:
"We don’t need to pressure them too much, as long as they know we will insist on solving the problem through legal means."
Kathy Lewis, though she didn’t know what Sean Knight’s plan was, assured him that she would faithfully execute his instructions.
After hanging up, Sean Knight quickly called Joanna Davis.
Joanna Davis was on her way to her classroom when she received Sean Knight’s call, she was thrilled, and they ended up chatting all the way until she reached her classroom.
If it weren’t for the professor arriving, Joanna Davis wouldn’t want to hang up at all.
When Sean Knight ended the call and was about to leave, a car stopped on the outskirts of the base.
Sean Knight felt the ground vibrate, he went to the window to look and saw that pickup truck, along with the three men who got out of it.
The three men first looked around, they didn’t see any danger, and proceeded to open the main gate of the base.
They didn’t even notice that the gate was unlocked, and they just walked right in.
When Sean Knight drove in, he had switched some of the traps set up by Douglas Cooper and his team into safe mode. But once inside the base, he adjusted them again — after all, there was no one to stand guard for him at night, and it was necessary to maintain vigilance.
As a result, those three men walked right into chaos!
The first one to fall into the trap was a skinny man in his early twenties, who was leading the group. While looking around cautiously, he carelessly stepped into a void, followed by a horrified scream!
The even ground underfoot was deceivingly made of thin wooden planks, creating a pitfall. With one step, he plunged into the pit, where seven or eight rusty nails shot up from the bottom!
The nails pierced through his foot, and his screams were enough to startle a wolf!
The other two men, terrified, immediately jumped up and turned to run!
However, after running a few steps and seeing no one appear, they cautiously returned. They pulled out the injured man together.
The nails in the man’s foot were forcefully removed as he was pulled out, and the man’s scream suddenly rose an octave!
Sean couldn’t help but cover his ears, feeling somewhat sympathetic for the guy.
If he doesn’t get a tetanus shot in time, he’s going to be in big trouble.
Of course, he had it coming.
The two men helped the injured one to the ground, one inspecting the wound while the other cautiously stepped on each brick, making his way towards the door.
Just as he was about to reach the door, a smirk appeared on his face. He lightly touched something at his feet - a thin wire was strung a tad higher than the ground.
Feeling something around his feet, he looked down and spotted the iron wire. He instinctively felt danger and turned to run, but it was too late. A suspended iron ball attached to a rope came swinging down, hitting him precisely in the lower abdomen!
This scream was at least eight decibels louder than the previous one!
And the sound was so melodious that it made Sean’s teeth ache!
This sudden event startled even the man who had been moaning from stepping on the nail. The moaning stopped as he watched his teammate’s even worse luck unfold.
The man, clutching his lower abdomen, attempted to jump back, only to step into another trap - this time, a pit filled with acid!
The remaining man completely disregarded his mates and turned to run!
This place was too dangerous!
"Bang!"
A bullet landed in front of him.
"Run again, and I will kill you!"
Sean walked to the door and said to the man:
"Take these two and leave. Come back, and I’ll shoot you straight."
The gunshot had knocked the man out of his senses. It took him a moment to realize that there was someone inside!
He couldn’t be angrier at the man who tipped him off. He had been specifically told that there was no one inside!
They had been prepared all along!
He started suspecting if someone had specifically targeted the three of them and duped them into coming here!
Facing the muzzle of Sean’s gun, he didn’t dare to run. He could only first help one of his teammates into the car and then come back for the other.
Looking at the dreadful state of his teammates, he swore to never return to this place - anyone who did was a fool!
Once the car left, Sean called the sheriff and explained the situation.
The sheriff was infuriated and promised Sean that he would severely punish these guys!
Sean was only seeking some assurance. After setting the traps back in place in the courtyard, he planned to leave the base and head towards the lake.
However, the next phone call to come made him reconsider.
Probably best to explain first. This issue was giving him a headache.
The caller was Oscar Knight — Sean was initially surprised as to why his older brother was calling at this hour.
After all, it was pretty late in China right now.
But as Oscar started speaking, Sean instantly forgot about the time — what had gotten into his brother?
This was going to make things complicated!
