Chapter 494: Chapter 344: Struggle with Local Forces

"When I was taking stock of assets, I had a friend in Arkansas go check out that forest and found that there had been logging and somebody seemed to be treasure hunting in there."

This news from Kathy sent a chill down Sean’s spine.

The reason for buying that pristine forest was because there was a massive treasure in Swan Lake there.

What if someone else found and even dug it up? How could that be possible?

When Sean shared the situation with Elijah and others, they all became indignant, and Douglas said straightforwardly:

"Let’s go! We can’t let them mess around with your stuff! We have to show them who’s boss!"

Joanna knew Sean had important things to deal with. Even though she was reluctant, she was used to it.

Be careful," cautioned Joanna. What she meant next was, he should come back early.

Sean held Joanna close, his heart was aflame.

Whether it was because of his luck or Joanna breaking the growth inertia of white women, she had become increasingly voluptuous and her temperament had greatly changed. Her freckles faded, her pores became smaller and even disappeared. She was gaining more and more fame in the school.

Nevertheless, he had to attend to the matter at hand. After sending Joanna away and bidding Kathy goodbye, Sean left some words for Jason and then drove off from New York to Arkansas.

Although they could have flown there, all four of them thought it would be better to drive there, treating it as a road trip.

On their journey, they met kind-hearted passersby, annoying vagrants, and local residents who played pranks.

That day, they drove into a small town.

This was already within Arkansas. The inhabitants of the town were not only white and black people, but also notably indigenous people - Native Americans.

Although not many, they were indeed present.

"We should be able to reach the place tomorrow." Sean had the map in his mind and added, "Originally, Brown had set up a luxurious camp near the forest. But now, who knows what that camp has become."

"No problem, anyone occupying our place should get out."

"Yeah, if they eat our pies, we make them spit them out, if they steal our stuff, we make them return them." Douglas laughed.

"That’s the antagonist’s line," chimed in Lincoln quietly.

"We are the antagonist now!" Douglas declared seriously, "Don’t care about any justification, we are the boss!"

Joking around, they got off the car and came to a hotel in the town.

The hotel was owned by Native Americans. Seeing the four of them, the receptionist was a bit surprised and asked:

"Chinese? Japanese or Korean?"

"Chinese," replied Elijah, "we need three rooms."

Sean was their boss; he always had his own room. The other three made do.

"Alright, welcome." The receptionist was a twenty-something Native American woman with a round face who greeted them warmly and processed their registration skillfully, "Are you here for tourism?"

"Yes," laughed Elijah, "Are there any good restaurants in town that you can recommend?"

He handed over a 20-dollar tip.

"My name is Maggie," the receptionist accepted the tip and said smilingly, "Aunt Lily on the east end of town makes great pies and roasts veal, which are considered a delicacy in our town.

Of course, if you are not used to that, there’s a French restaurant on the western end of town. But it’s quite expensive and not many people go there. I’ve never had it myself..."

Maggie continued:

"Of course if you don’t mind, we also serve simple meals here which are cheap and clean."

Following Maggie upstairs, Sean and the others managed to get a basic understanding of the town.

The residents mixed together in the town. There were two major Native American landlords and one big white rancher, as well as other people who have lived there forever or settled down halfway.

Overall, the town was fairly safe. Of course, this "fairly safe" was relative to other towns. Periodic incidences of theft or fights were not considered a big deal.

In Maggie’s perspective, "fairly safe" meant that there were generally only one or two homicides a month, and more often than not, the victims were outsiders.

Listening to this, they all became a bit cautious.

During their journey, they had encountered robbery and theft, but the four of them were extraordinary in physique. Elijah and the others were experts, so they typically had the upper hand.

So even though they heard about the disturbances here, they weren’t too concerned.

They all had weapons and bravery matched their martial arts. Unless uniformed officers showed up, they would certainly not lose their nerve.

"However, be careful of Jerry and his guys in the town," advised Maggie kindly,

"They’re not the old folks from out of town, they like to bully passersby. Of course, as long as you don’t cause trouble, they shouldn’t get out of hand..."

Sean and the others understood.

Having settled into their rooms and telling Maggie they would have breakfast at the hotel the next morning, they left the hotel to take a walk in the town.

Just as they walked out, they saw a skinny young man meddling with their car.

"Hey!" Douglas went up and grabbed him, "Scoundrel, what are you doing?"
