Chapter 484: Chapter 339: Discussion on Certain Disadvantageous Traits that Benefit Others_2

The auctioneer was a bit grateful to Sean, but also a little resentful: You should have at least raised the price, what’s the point of starting at the reserve price? Don’t you think highly of this place?

Then someone raised their hand:

"1,010,000 dollars!"

"Good, good, Guest No.22 bids 1,010,000 dollars! 1,010,000 dollars for the first time... is there anyone willing to bid higher..."

Sean felt that this person didn’t genuinely want to buy, but rather to raise the price!

Of course, this was just a hunch, and the auctioneer didn’t care as he continued shouting:

"1,010,000 for the second time, is there anyone willing to bid higher..."

"1,010,100." Sean raised his card.

"Guest No.43 bids 1,010,100, is there anyone willing to bid higher? This primitive forest is not only scenic, but also filled with various wildlife. It is a great logging and hunting ground..."

Whether it was because of the auctioneer’s sales pitch or because some people thought the place was worth the price, others went on to bid:

"1,100,000 dollars!"

The auctioneer took a breath of relief, finally breaking through that zero in the middle. He excitedly shouted:

"Guest No.28 bids 1,100,000 dollars! 1,100,000 dollars! Thank you for the good taste of this beautiful girl! Is there anyone willing to bid higher, 1,100,000 dollars for the first time..."

"1,150,000 dollars." Sean raised his card.

At this point, everyone could see that Sean was determined to buy the primitive forest.

However, Guest No. 28 and the subsequent bidder, Guest No. 37, had no intention of letting Sean succeed. They kept increasing the price, pushing it to 21 million dollars.

Sean still calmly added another 500,000 dollars.

At this moment, Guest No. 37 raised his hand to call the waiter, whispering a few words, then the waiter went to talk to the auctioneer.

Sean’s face changed.

He saw the waiter’s lip movement. The message from Guest No. 37 was clear: he doubted whether Sean had the financial capacity to buy these items!

After all, he had just bought items worth over 20 million dollars!

If Sean was deliberately causing trouble, then the auction would undoubtedly be embarrassing.

The auctioneer hesitated for a moment and said:

"We’ll pause the auction temporarily. Some guests on-site are questioning whether our Guest No.43 has the ability to buy this item.

I know it’s impolite to ask this question, but for the smooth progress of the auction, I think it’s necessary to ask..."

"Don’t worry, I have enough money to pay for these items that I’ve already won."

"Not necessarily." Someone said sarcastically, "Anybody can make empty promises."

Sean spotted that person - Guest No. 18.

He felt a surge of anger in his heart.

As fellow Chinese, not helping was one thing, but stepping on his toes was another!

At this point, Smith spoke up:

"I can vouch for Guest No. 43’s net worth of over a hundred million. He can definitely afford these prices."

Smith, though not a major celebrity in New York, was a well-known figure. With his confirmation, some people believed him, the auctioneer recognized him, and the matter was settled.

The auctioneer sincerely said:

"I sincerely apologize, Guest No.43, for doubting you. It was my mistake. Alright, let’s continue with the auction."

The small farce was over due to Smith’s endorsement, but Sean’s mood had not improved.

Guest No.28 withdrew from the auction as a result, and eventually, Sean bought the ownership of the primitive forest for the price of 27,500,000 dollars.

He should have been very happy, but the farce in between left Sean somewhat unhappy.

When he was unhappy, he became a bit stubborn.

In the following auction, he would raise his card and quote a price whenever Guest No.18 or Guest No.28 spoke.

Any discerning eye could see that Sean was seeking revenge.

But he didn’t care; he had the money to be stubborn.

Ultimately, besides the desired set of totems, the five golden ritual implements, and the primitive forest, Sean also bought a winery and a western wasteland that was being explored and rumored to potentially contain oil fields.

The total price exceeded 100 million dollars.

However, Sean didn’t think he was wasting money - aside from the amount of gold hidden in Swan Lake, the energy contained within the set of rosewood totem poles alone was worth much more than a hundred million US dollars!

After the auction ended, Sean had unexpectedly become one of the biggest bidders.

Sean walked over to Mr. Smith and said,

"Thank you, Mr. Smith, I couldn’t have done it without your help."

"No, no, no," Smith waved his hand. "Sean, you’ve been too low-key. With your wealth, you could easily fit into the upper-class society."

"That’s impossible," Sean shook his head. "My skin color decides that I can’t enter the upper class, and I’m not interested in it either."

Smith laughed without arguing. Indeed, American reality was like this: the so-called equality was just bullshit. People of color, no matter how rich they were, could only be marginalized unless they groveled.

Sean completed the payment transfer and collected his newly-acquired items.

He also noticed the resentful expression on the face of the person who had been Number Eighteen. However, when Sean turned to face him, the man hurriedly looked away, clearly not daring to make eye contact with Sean.

What a coward.

Sean knew the nature of such people. For the Chinese who were less well-off than them, they wanted to suppress them completely, but if they met someone formidable, they would be cowardly and fearful of retaliation.

That was the characteristic of some people.

"Boss, do you want to teach him a lesson?" Elijah Hastings asked in a low voice.

"No need. He’s just a drowning dog." Sean didn’t bother to pay attention to him. He didn’t expect that he would have another chance to meet him in a few days.

Sean happily returned home after loading all the auction items into the car.

Once back home, Sean asked Elijah to call Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington and instructed them to carry several of the golden sacrificial implements from the car.

"Each of you take one and go back to your bedrooms to absorb the energy. Once you’re done, return the items to me."

The three were overjoyed; they knew the benefits of the energy inside, which couldn’t be purchased with money!

Sean had them carry the remaining two sacrificial implements and the set of totem poles to his own bedroom. He also collected the documents.

These items needed careful sorting. Since Kathy Lewis was still recovering, he wouldn’t disturb her for now.

Back in his bedroom, Sean originally planned to absorb the energy from the Cross, but seeing the green energy that others couldn’t see in the totem poles, he momentarily became excited and decided to try it out.

When he reached out, he found that the energy within the totem poles didn’t react.

Obviously, ordinary contact could not absorb the energy within.

It made sense; otherwise, the energy in these totem poles would have been long gone, and there would have been none left for him.

Sean pressed the totem pole against the Sky Eye on his forehead, using the method to absorb the energy there. A warm and vibrant energy then surged into his body!

As he felt his body’s damaged areas being healed, Sean felt invigorated!

He looked at the totem again, noticing that not much energy had disappeared.

What a great item!

Sean was delighted.

He glanced at the two golden sacrificial implements, thought of Kathy’s condition, and carried one over to see her.

"Mr. Knight, is this what you got from the auction? It looks very distinctive," Kathy asked as she saw the Gold Bear Mask.

Kathy was reading in her room. Sean put the bear mask on the table and said earnestly,

"Ms. Kathy, this mask has a special energy, just like what you experienced in those giant golden totem poles. Once you absorb this energy, your body should be able to recover quickly."

Kathy was surprised and then smiled.

Looking at Sean, she asked,

"Mr. Knight, this item... it must be very precious, right?"

Sean understood her meaning and laughed,

"While it’s valuable, it’s not extremely precious to me. I’m hoping you can recover quickly and help me manage my businesses. So think of this as an advance bonus."

Kathy smiled again and didn’t refuse.

Sean then left her room.

He needed Kathy to integrate his wasteland, primitive forest, and winery estate, so this really was like a prepayment bonus.

On the second day, Robert brought him some news that startled him.

He couldn’t believe he’d run into such a situation!
