Chapter 452: Chapter 323: Accidentally Hitting the Deputy Car
"Why are there so many strange things in this cave?"
There were many stalactites in the cave, dripping milky-white water.
Under the light, the cave was colorful and looked very beautiful.
Douglas Cooper touched a drop of water from a stalactite and put it in his mouth, then spat it out, "It’s too astringent and bitter! The novels are all deceptive!"
Sean Knight laughed as he walked:
"Which wuxia novel did you read? You think ten-thousand-year-old stone milk is good stuff? It’s just water that has dissolved limestone, not that great."
Douglas grimaced, his dreams dashed.
As they continued walking, they suddenly noticed that the space inside the cave got larger.
And they even heard the sound of water up ahead.
"Is there an underground river?" Sean asked doubtfully.
"Probably." Dubawnt Ramirez, being a local, had not been in this cave before, but he was familiar with the terrain. He said as he walked, "There should be an underground river on this island."
Well, that’s as good as saying nothing!
Douglas muttered and followed behind.
"What is this...?" Sean suddenly stopped, bent down, and picked up something.
A curved knife?
How did such a thing appear here?
Earlier, they had found a broken Type 38 rifle and a broken bayonet near the cave entrance, but now suddenly, this appeared, making it more mysterious.
"Looking at this curved knife, it’s probably from centuries ago. Could it be that there were people here at that time?"
Sean was also puzzled. This discovery was beyond his knowledge.
"The entrance to this cave is relatively hidden, so it seems that no one has entered for many years. It is possible that it was used as a hidden stronghold by some people at that time."
This was Dubawnt’s speculation.
As for later being used as a stronghold by the Japan Army, it’s also reasonable.
"Let’s continue inside." Sean raised the emergency light, "Maybe we’ll find something else."
As they walked about fifty meters further in, the cave widened but became lower in height. They found a subterranean river that was about three meters wide and had a gentle flow.
The river water was very turbid, probably due to being mixed with limestone powder.
Sean shone the emergency light across the river and found traces of people having been there before on the other side, but it had been undisturbed for a long time. The stones had been cut and a road had been created, but if you didn’t look closely, it was not easy to see.
"Let’s go there." Sean activated Sky Eye, found that there was nothing in the river, and deemed it wasn’t deep. At its deepest, it was only about three meters, so it was possible to wade across.
Elijah Hastings and two others didn’t hesitate and went with Sean.
Dubawnt hesitated for a moment but thought about Caprio Parker’s instructions and also crossed the river.
After two more turns and about twenty more meters, they reached the end of the line.
There was a living area of about thirty to forty square meters, with traces of people having lived there, and not just one person.
Since it was a cave, there were many air holes above, with some places dripping water and others letting air in. So, the air here was not stale, just a bit dark.
As the emergency light scanned, they discovered a stone stove made of stacked stones and simple stone beds and stools that had been chisel-cut from rock.
However, Sean felt that this was a bit unreliable—living so deep in a cave would not be easy.
"Someone once lived in seclusion here?" Douglas touched the unknown, rotten fur on the stone bed and asked curiously.
"Maybe." Elijah looked around and found that there was nothing noteworthy.
Sean activated Sky Eye and started to search around.
Dubawnt was also very disappointed. He held an iron rod in his hand—its tip was pointed, and he used it to strike around, but he didn’t find anything.
That’s why he was disappointed.
"It seems that there is no gain here either." Dubawnt finally concluded.
Over the past month, they had searched several places in succession, but they ultimately found nothing.
A lot of money was spent but with no gains. It was indeed demoralizing.
"Well, it’s not that there’s no gain." Sean smiled, "In fact, there is good stuff hidden here. The original setup itself served to deceive people."
"To deceive people?" The others listened, somewhat puzzled.
"Ordinarily, people would think that this place was a living area and would not search too hard." Sean said.
The others nodded in agreement. This was basically common sense—or a blind spot. After all, living areas were self-evident, and it was hard to imagine that something would be hidden here.
"But let’s try moving this stone bed and see." Sean pointed to the roughly-polished stone bed and said, "Maybe we’ll have a gain."
Upon hearing Sean say that there might be something under the stone bed, Douglas was the first to believe, and he immediately went over to move it.
"Hey... it’s pretty heavy!" He shook it but couldn’t move it. Douglas shook his head, "Come, everyone help!"
Elijah and Lincoln Harrington went over and lifted the corners of the stone bed.
Dubawnt hesitated for a moment and did not move.
He felt that there shouldn’t be anything under the stone bed.
Sean looked at him and smiled:
"If you don’t participate and we really find something, you won’t get a share."
Dubawnt hesitated for a moment and then immediately stepped forward to help lift the stone bed.
He remembered Caprio’s words: When looking for treasure, do whatever Sean tells you to do, as long as it’s not dangerous. Otherwise, if there is any loss, you will have to make up for it.
