Chapter 451: Chapter 322: Could It Be Genuine?_2
Sean Knight was clearly not in agreement.
"I won’t covet the place names in your diary, and you shouldn’t be targeting mine. This is my suggestion.
My diary records a total of fifteen place names, and your two diaries should have about twenty. We each provide a place name and start investigating."
Caprio Parker thought about it, and this seemed fairly reasonable.
"What if all the remaining place names are from my side?" Caprio asked a redundant question.
"Well, I haven’t finished speaking yet. You should first find out how many place names you have. In the middle of the search, your diary can have a few more place names than mine," Sean said confidently, "After all, without my diary, you wouldn’t have your diary."
As agreed beforehand, Caprio felt a bit wronged, but he had no choice.
After further investigation, he found that there were twenty distinct place names in the first two diary volumes.
"Thirty-five place names ... that’s a bit too many," Sean sighed.
"Actually, some places have already been searched and can be ruled out," said Caprio, a Filipino native who is well-acquainted with this matter.
"It’s better not to. Let’s patiently investigate each location one by one," Sean thought that since they were going to search, they should do it diligently. After all, with Sky Eye’s help, even the investigation wouldn’t be much trouble.
"We need to carry out our actions covertly," Caprio reminded, "If we search openly, even if we find the treasure, it won’t end up in our hands."
Sean had heard some stories about the Philippine government’s involvement in this case.
Years ago, some notoriously corrupt presidents had commissioned a foreign company to research Yamashita Fumio’s treasure.
The company conducted surveys and identified more than 100 locations, but before they could hand them over to the president, news broke that they planned to eliminate the middleman. The company immediately burned the locations and fled to America overnight.
The matter was ultimately dropped.
Since then, no company dared to accept such government assignments.
So, when Caprio said this, Sean naturally understood.
"We’ll pretend to be tourists," Sean suggested. "You are quite famous over there, so it’s best to disguise yourself or change your identity."
Caprio was a well-known treasure hunter, known for his flamboyance and fame. If he were to show up in various places in the Philippines, it would indeed cause trouble.
Caprio was well aware of the difficulties and could only nod in agreement. "Actually, my plan is to divert attention elsewhere while I send someone to follow you and investigate."
Sean nodded, and the matter was settled.
To show his sincerity, Caprio gave the first place name - Saint Fernando Port.
According to the first diary, Yamashita Fumio had spent some time at a nearby Japanese army camp in the harbor, so this place became the first investigation point.
After revealing the place name, Caprio left. He wanted to attend a high-profile event in Malaysia, leaving behind a subordinate named Dubawnt Ramirez to cooperate with Sean and his party in investigating.
Dubawnt seemed to be in his late twenties, dark-skinned, and a little taller than Caprio, about 5’6". He wore a constant smile on his face, his English was not great but understandable.
As Caprio said, when they arrived in the Philippines, all they needed for food, accommodation, and travel could be left to Dubawnt. Sean and others would just symbolically give some money.
Traveling from Indonesia to the Philippines was not difficult. Sean and his companions bid farewell to Oliver Brooks, asked him to take care of the people who came to Big Island for supplies from the newly established Overseas Group, and followed Dubawnt to Saint Fernando.
Seen on the map, Saint Fernando is located on the west of Luzon Island of Philippines, close to the South Sea, actually, quite close to the nine-dotted line or the twelve-dotted line.
Although Yellow Rock Island was not visible to the naked eye, Sean felt thrilled looking at the sea, knowing that China’s South Sea was not far away.
"It’s a pity we can’t go there." There was still something to be regretted.
Due to some reasons, and because his ID card identified him as from Xinjiang, Sean could not enter Sansha City, the largest city in terms of area in China. This was definitely a regret.
However, he just lamented for a moment, and then settled into a hotel in Saint Fernando, arranged by Dubawnt.
Saint Fernando is a port city in the southern part of Luzon Island of Philippines, the capital of Pampanga Province, located along the tributaries of the Pampanga River, 56 kilometers southeast of Manila. The city is not very large or bustling, with a strong Southeast Asian island atmosphere.
While staying here, Sean Knight and his companions adapted to the local customs, changed into local attire, and began to wander around.
Dubawnt Ramirez took them to a certain place in the northern part of the port, and casually commented on their surroundings:
"This is where the Japanese Army camp used to be. They were stationed at the port, trained in the north, and sometimes went into the mountains."
The implication was that their range of activities was quite extensive.
Sean and his companions were not too surprised, as locating such things was not a matter of a simple glance. After all, his eyes were not high-power radars or remote sensing satellites.
So they still needed to survey the area bit by bit.
Fortunately, Sean Knight had enough patience, and Yamashita Fumio’s treasure was indeed very tempting. So, he marked out a large area on the map in combination with Dubawnt’s introduction and began to survey the area block by block every day.
Dubawnt followed Sean under the instruction of Caprio Parker, and every night he reported their every move to Caprio.
Although Sean visited places every day like taking a walk, turning around here and there, Dubawnt was confused, and Caprio was also puzzled. Still, he didn’t interfere with Sean’s actions. He just asked Dubawnt to follow closely, provide good service, and keep a good record.
About one week later, Sean told Dubawnt:
"There are no clues in Saint Fernando. Let’s change locations."
Dubawnt was taken aback. Was there really no clue?
He hadn’t even seen how Sean and his companions had confirmed this place wasn’t the hiding location for the treasure.
However, since Sean had spoken, Dubawnt dutifully reported it to Caprio.
Caprio immediately called Sean to inquire about it.
Naturally, Sean explained the whole "fengshui" thing to him.
Acceptance from Southeast Asian people like Caprio was much easier than from Westerners; Caprio seemed to have an epiphany.
So that was why Sean had such a high success rate in treasure hunting; he understood fengshui!
That was fantastic!
So Sean and his companions moved on to their next location, a place called Emerald Gem on Luzon Island.
It wasn’t far from Saint Fernando, so they arrived there that day.
In the following month, Sean led Elijah Hastings and the others, along with Dubawnt Ramirez and his team, through six different locations, all of which turned up empty-handed.
Although they found some remnants of Japanese Army camps left behind in these places, there were no other gains.
Then they arrived at Bohol Island.
This location was suggested by Sean.
For the first six locations, Sean had provided two, and Dubawnt, following Caprio’s instructions, had provided four; according to him, they had done quite well so far.
Bohol Island has a famous Chocolate Hill, a rare feature found only in two or three places worldwide, and it could be considered a tourist attraction.
In the third diary that Sean obtained, Bohol Island had once served as a stronghold for the Japanese Army to resist the invasion of the Allied forces.
Yamashita Fumio had spent as long as a month here, so it was considered a more likely location.
Under Dubawnt’s guidance, they stayed in a local "homestay" dressed as typical tourists, going out early and returning late, wandering around the island and searching for the possible treasure hiding places.
On the second day on the island, Sean and his companions made some discoveries.
In the hilly area at the center of the island, made of limestone, they found a cave system in a sparsely traveled area.
Not long after entering the cave, they found what appeared to be supplies left behind by the Japanese Army: decayed bullet boxes, broken weapons, and empty cans.
As they continued, they even found skeletal remains, but as they ventured deeper into the cave, they discovered something different.
