Chapter 437: Chapter 314: Master, this is a Master!
Elijah Hastings immediately felt something was off about Sean Knight’s expression.
"Boss, is there something wrong with the terrain here?"
While he said, "wrong," he was actually hoping for it to be "right".
Having spent the past few days running around fruitlessly, Elijah was getting irritated. He wanted to find the treasure as soon as possible and end this foreign journey.
Of course, he had never doubted Sean’s abilities. At first, when he followed Sean to trick foreigners by claiming to know fengshui, Elijah thought it was just for fun. But as time went on, he couldn’t help but believe it.
"Something is indeed not right here." Sean said, pointing at the graveyard and the mountain behind it with his shovel.
Elijah looked over-the graveyard was on a gentle slope that extended down from the mountain and leveled off with the ground.
It was the steep mountain behind that resembled the back of a sword-wielding dragon from ancient times.
Elijah knew that mountains were formed by the compression of the earth’s crust. This mountain was very steep, resembling two hands placed together with an angle of about thirty to forty degrees between them.
Currently, the graveyard connected to the steep mountain, resembling the rear half of the arrow dragon’s spine suddenly connected to a softer tail.
"What’s wrong with it? I don’t see it." Elijah’s knowledge of topography mainly focused on recognizing mountains, rivers, roads, and determining where there was water and cover. He didn’t understand the formation of mountains, changes in soil quality, or fengshui mentioned by Sean.
Sean took two steps forward, pointing at the mountain with his shovel:
"Normally, the mountain should have a regular curve due to the pressure from the earth’s crust, but when it reaches the graveyard, it suddenly goes slack. It’s too abrupt."
Upon hearing this, Elijah agreed. However, he had seen such a situation before several times.
Sean didn’t plan on convincing him with just one reason:
"Look more closely, don’t you see? The steep part of the mountain above is almost entirely made of stone, but the abrupt section at the graveyard suddenly turns into a soil structure."
Elijah indeed saw this and nodded vigorously.
"Furthermore, the vegetation on each part is different. Of course, this could be due to different soil qualities, but at least their contact point should be similar or almost the same. But as it stands, there is a clear boundary between them."
"But those shrubs look like they’ve been growing for many years..."
Elijah’s words trailed off.
Many years- that’s right, after all, if there really was something buried here, it would have been for decades, right?
His thoughts suddenly came to life!
"Boss, could it be right here?"
"It’s hard to say. Let’s go take a closer look."
With that, Sean headed towards the mountain.
Elijah hurriedly followed.
He was used to calling Sean "boss" - although they had now become partners, Elijah still felt like Sean’s bodyguard, so calling him "boss" seemed fine.
In Monk’s words, becoming a partner was a favor from the boss and had to be carried. But from the beginning, when he first met the boss during his time of crisis, he couldn’t forget his life-saving grace.
He was different from Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper.
Sean walked diagonally and directly reached the junction between the graveyard and the mountain. He activated the Sky Eye and scanned downwards. As expected!
The geology was different. Underneath the soil of the graveyard, there was a stone structure that extended down from the mountain.
However, what surprised Sean was the crevice in the stone mountain underneath the graveyard soil. It was a naturally formed mountain cave.
The cave went all the way into the mountain interior, appearing as though the mountain had been lifted due to plate pressure, creating a hollow underneath.
Sean had seen a similar cave once in Chauncey, Xinjiang, but that one wasn’t as deep, and it was exposed, looking somewhat like the Sydney Opera House.
This one was like the gap formed when two fingertips came together, forming a thirty-degree angle.
There was at least ten meters of distance, and the cave was filled with soil.
The graveyard was created by taking soil from elsewhere and covering it over the mountain’s slope, disguising it as a natural terrain.
This required a skilled hand!
It was likely that only high-tech methods like remote sensing could detect anything hidden here, as ordinary metal detectors would have a hard time discovering anything.
Sean then looked at the graveyard again - this graveyard was indeed camouflaged.
There were about a hundred or two hundred tombs, buried along the artificially made slope. Over the years, the soil that was moved began to sink, and some of the tombs began to collapse.
There were more than a hundred graves, some with tombstones, some without, and the size of the piles varied. It seemed that a lot of effort had been spent to make this disguise.
The coffins in the graves were not made of iron as Devon had described but of wood with an iron bottom.
Naturally, the people buried in the graves were not dressed in military uniforms, but many had gunshot or stab wounds under their clothes, clearly not having died from natural causes.
It was almost certain that this was the place.
Elijah came over and asked:
"Boss, is it here?"
"Yes," Sean nodded.
Elijah immediately showed an excited expression:
"Where should we start digging?"
Sean looked around, realizing that they were standing on the ridge of the mountain, making them obvious targets.
Fortunately, there was no path leading here, nor any people nearby.
"You start digging here, and I’ll look for a more convenient place." Sean decided to search around the area.
