Chapter 423: Chapter 307: Who’s Afraid of Who?
After sending Sean and his group away, Delton went to the fourth floor of the palace.
By the window of a room facing the outside, a young girl in a long dress was watching Sean and his friends with mixed feelings.
"Dear sister, aren’t you going to meet them?" Delton’s gossiping flames were burning brightly, "That Sean Knight seems to have a good temperament; maybe he’s from a noble family too."
"Their country has long abolished nobility," said the girl, turning to face Delton. "Or perhaps many people in their country are descendants of nobles, even descendants of the emperor."
"Then, there’s no problem with status and identity. What else are you worried about?" Delton shrugged. "Your situation is much better than our sister’s."
"But I don’t know how to face him." The girl was adjusting her long dress uncomfortably; she rarely wore such "formal" attire and was not used to it.
"Alright." Delton shook his head helplessly. "In this world, good boys are as sought after as good girls.
If you think he’s good, then take the initiative. Otherwise, you can only watch him walk into the marriage hall with someone else!"
The girl fell into deep thought, and Delton quietly left.
Although they were from a feudal noble family and the royal house, the Swedish royal family had no objection to marrying commoners.
Of course, Delton’s passionate persuasion for his sister to take the initiative was not without ulterior motives—his girlfriend came from a commoner family.
As the girl pondered her relationship with Sean, Sean and his team had already accepted the challenge from the incoming treasure hunters and knocked six burly men to the ground.
Although the six men were tall and strong, they had less experience in fighting than Sean.
Sean and his team didn’t humiliate the other side too much; after knocking them down, they left with their heads held high.
A young man couldn’t bear it, got up, and pulled out a pistol to aim at Sean and his team, but was knocked to the ground by his team leader.
"Ben, don’t be impulsive! You’ll get us all killed!"
The team leader saw it most clearly; Sean and his team had shown some mercy.
But if they started shooting, there would be no turning back—he had no chance of winning at all!
If they started using guns, he guessed that his team would most likely be wiped out!
Ben resentfully put away his gun and looked at the distant enemy.
He suddenly realized that one of them was staring at him, waving something in his hand, and the metal reflection caught his eye.
The other side had a gun too and had already aimed it at him!
Ben was covered in cold sweat; he didn’t doubt that if he had pulled the trigger, the other side would have shot him down first!
This guess made Ben dare not to look at those people again. He quietly put away his gun, lowered his head, wiped his bloody nose, and pretended like nothing had happened.
"A smart man." Elijah commented from the other side, as the one who had waved his hand to scare Ben. "He knows when to advance and retreat."
"Of course, he’s smart. Otherwise, he’d be a corpse now." Douglas Cooper laughed. He had moved the fastest just now, knocking down two men including Ben.
"Alright, let’s focus on the main task." Sean said, "Let’s avoid the path they came from, spread out a bit, and be sure to keep an eye on the trees above our heads. Maybe the treasure is hidden in a tree hollow."
"Huh? Why didn’t I think of that?" Douglas became excited. "Yeah, tree hollows would be much more conspicuous than the ground!"
As they walked, chatted, and searched, their actions were swift. After walking almost two kilometers, they found that the easily accessible areas along the highway had already been searched.
"With six teams, besides our two, there are four others—are they all concentrating their searches near Stockholm?"
Lincoln Harrington’s analysis made sense to Sean.
"Let’s go back then." Sean said, having used his Sky Eye ability, he noticed that there were no traces of human intrusion around 200-300 meters deep into the roadside areas.
So the only explanation was that the thief had most likely returned to Stockholm while they were searching.
Since there was nothing in this area, Sean decided:
"Let’s go back!"
"Where to?" Douglas asked, "the palace or Stockholm?"
"Of course, back to the palace." Sean replied, "We’ll look for clues at the place where the thief started."
"Oh, if only we had a police dog," sighed Douglas, "it would definitely help us find the treasure quicker."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a dog’s bark came from the other side of the road.
They looked at each other, each with a bad feeling.
Elijah smiled bitterly:
"You’ve got to be kidding me..."
Before he finished, they saw a team of five – four men with metal detectors and one with a dog – heading towards the palace.
Soon, they disappeared from view.
"The bad news is that they have a dog; the good news is that they don’t seem to have found anything yet." Lincoln, rarely speaking, made a lengthy comment for once.
"Douglas, you jinx!" Elijah complained, "Mention a dog... and the other side gets a dog. That’s a huge advantage they have."
"I didn’t expect that..." Douglas felt wronged. "Who could’ve thought they’d bring a dog with them?"
"Let’s go back." Sean said, "Looks like the other side has found a new clue. We can’t fall behind."</p
