Chapter 395: Chapter 292: This Is a Sad Story_2
The sad part for Oliver Brooks was that nobody even tried to kidnap him and force him to reveal the approximate location of the sunken ship!
Isn’t there anyone in the whole world who believes his words, who believes that the sunken ship is real?
Instead of losing his confidence, this situation only stirred up his resentment:
He must find the sunken treasure and slap those who don’t believe him in the face!
Hearing this, Sean Knight fell silent for a moment before suddenly asking:
"What about your family?"
Oliver Brooks let out a bitter laugh:
"What family? I’m the last one of the Brooks family. I’m not married..."
Looking at this man who looked at least forty years old, Sean thought to himself, you can’t just let the Brooks family line die out, can you?
It is possible that recovering the family treasure has become his obsession, and if he doesn’t find it, he probably doesn’t have the mood to get married either.
After understanding the situation, Sean thought for a moment before asking again:
"How far is the place from here?"
"Not close anyway." Oliver Brooks’ answer was somewhat vague.
Sean understood that it was impossible for him to reveal all the information to Sean right away; only a fool would do that.
"Here’s my idea," Sean candidly said:
"I basically agree to cooperate with you. Now let’s prepare the supplies, I’ll provide the funds. Of course, it’s not any complex equipment, mainly renting a boat, purchasing equipment, and stocking up on supplies. We’ll scout the area you’ve circled first. Is the sea territory you’ve marked relatively large?"
"Not quite big. It’s roughly a radius of about ten sea miles or so." Oliver Brooks was still being quite vague.
"That’s fine, we have similar experience," Sean said, "I will allocate half a month’s time. We will search for the target in the area you circled for half a month. If we find the target, we will begin the salvage operation.
If we can’t find the target within half a month, we’ll withdraw. What do you think?"
Oliver Brooks didn’t know about Sean’s efficiency in treasure hunting. He immediately shook his head:
"Half a month isn’t enough; it has to be at least one month."
Sean thought for a moment that he was free anyway, so he smiled and said:
"Alright, one month it is. However, we need to return two or three times in between to restock supplies and such. It’s no good to be constantly drifting at sea."
"There’s definitely no problem with that!" Finally, a genuine smile appeared on Oliver Brooks’ face.
"Then it’s settled," Sean said, feeling that his words had not been wasted after seeing that smile. An extra half a month would be just more time for him. He had never been to this tropical region before, so it could be considered a form of tourism.
Next, it was time to plan for the purchases.
"There are plenty of boats for rent at the port. As long as you have money, you can choose any boat you like." Oliver Brooks said with a smile, though there was a hint of sarcasm in that smile.
"Unfortunately, I don’t have the money. Those ship owners treat me like a beggar when they see me. The only few times I’ve been to that area was when I worked as a sailor on a ship. But I didn’t find anything."
Sean hadn’t expected Oliver Brooks to be so down and out - possessing the information about the treasure, but having no one believe him.
"I also rented a small boat to go there but almost got blown into the sea by the aftermath of a typhoon." Even now, Oliver Brooks still feels lingering fear when recalling that experience, "After that, I realized that small boats just can’t make it there. Going there would be courting death."
Sean’s original question got stuck in his throat.
It seemed that Oliver Brooks had tried every means he could think of, and only ended up at his current state because he was out of options.
"Alright, let’s start by listing the items we need to purchase." Although Sean and his friends had some experience with this, and Douglas Cooper’s family was originally fishermen, they were in a foreign country now, so they decided to listen to Oliver Brooks’ suggestions.
Oliver Brooks went into the inner room and fetched a piece of paper, saying:
"I’ve already made a list here. We can just add or subtract items from it."
The list was written in pencil, and there were obvious traces of modifications. It had obviously been revised several times over.
Diving suit, oxygen cylinder, satellite phone, underwater metal detector, fishing gun...
There were dozens of items (sets) in total, not to mention the supplies.
When Oliver Brooks handed over the paper to Sean, he seemed indifferent, but in fact, he was quite anxious.
The cost of all these items, once equipped, would amount to at least several tens of thousands of dollars.
Would Sean, who was standing right in front of him, turn him down just like those people he had encountered before? As soon as they saw the list, they would deny him an opportunity. He wouldn’t even have the chance to argue before they disbanded.
But he had already tried his best to reduce these things, and what was left were all necessities.
It would be life-threatening to drift at sea for a month without having everything ready!
"Did you cross these out because you think they’re not important or because you’re afraid that your partners would not be willing to provide them?" Sean Knight looked at the paper and asked with a smile.
"...Both, I guess," Oliver Brooks replied vaguely.
"No, no, our lives are more precious. So, as long as it is useful, buy it all!" Sean checked the time and said,
"It’s a bit late today, so let’s treat you to a meal, then rest for the night. Early tomorrow, we’ll come over and split up to make purchases. We’ll try to get everything ready and rent the boat within a day, and then set sail!"
"Great!" Oliver had never met such a generous partner before, and he was very excited. "Then I won’t be polite!"
At this moment, he secretly made up his mind that if they really found the treasure, he would give Sean more of the share no matter what!
Having made the mental preparation, he followed Sean out with peace of mind.
"Where can we find a more authentic and high-end Chinese restaurant?"
Sean asked a question.
"I’ll tell the driver." Oliver stopped two taxis with a wave of his hand.
The two cars arrived one after another at a very traditional and ancient-looking restaurant by the roadside.
"Flavour Pavilion?" Sean looked at the Chinese name and smiled, "Nice name."
"This restaurant comes from the mainland region, and it is said to have a history of almost a hundred years," Oliver introduced, "Many Chinese wealthy merchants in Jakarta, especially those who came in recent years, like to dine here."
The five of them entered the restaurant, where Oliver ordered a private room.
Seeing the familiar dish names on the menu, Sean thought they’d made the right choice.
Having ordered some signature dishes, Sean handed the menu to Oliver.
"I’ve never been here before," Oliver shook his head, "And I don’t know much about traditional Chinese cuisine anyway, so you guys can order."
Sean had already shown enough goodwill, and Oliver felt that he should be content with it.
The dishes were served, and everyone started eating without any hesitation.
Sean also ordered a few bottles of beer. Except for Lincoln Harrington, who didn’t drink to stay alert for any potential issues, everyone else had some.
After drinking, Oliver became more talkative.
His ordeals throughout these years had left him with many grievances to vent and much to tell someone.
In the past, he couldn’t talk about these things to anyone, nor would anyone listen, and he couldn’t bring himself to speak either.
Now that Sean had arrived, though they had only met once, Oliver believed that Sean must be his destined savior.
Sean could not only help him fulfill his wish but also be so considerate of his thoughts. Sean definitely deserved to become rich!
Facing Oliver’s emotional outbursts, Sean just smiled.
He couldn’t quite understand why people in ancient times refused to do things that could benefit the world just by plucking a single hair. Why not?
At present, he just showed a little bit of kindness. These resources were nothing more than hairs to him, but to Oliver, they were like life-saving straws.
As long as it was within his capabilities, he would still be willing to do such things.
Douglas Cooper drank several bottles and went out to pee. It took him almost ten minutes to return.
Upon his return, he saw everyone looking at him and immediately explained,
"Boss, I unexpectedly bumped into someone I know here, so I stayed outside for a while to confirm."
"Who?"
"You can still meet someone you know here?"
"Douglas, be careful not to mess up the boss’s matters!"
Hearing Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington’s words, Douglas immediately explained,
"No, no. I know him, but he doesn’t know me—this guy is a big swindler! He set up a Ponzi scheme, ripped off tens of billions, and then simply walked away! I never expected to find him here!"
Sean found this story a bit like a fairy tale—too unbelievable, right?
