Chapter 388: Chapter 289: This could be a treasure that reveals history!
As people from the province came to look, the Knight family naturally supported Sean’s trip to the Provincial Museum.
Ralph Knight waved his hand grandly:
"Go ahead, everything’s fine at home. You’re doing important work now, so don’t worry about the family."
"That’s right, I’m here for the family!" Sean’s brother, Oscar, slapped his chest, "Rest assured outside, I can take good care of Grandfather and our parents!"
"Bam!" Mark Knight slapped Oscar on the back and joked:
"What are you talking about? I’m not that old yet!"
He turned to Sean and said:
"Go, go, we won’t hold you back here. Just don’t embarrass our family out there!"
Although Nancy Knight, Sean’s Mother, found it hard to part with her son, she knew he was doing important things. She held Sean’s hand and said:
"Be careful outside. Don’t worry about the family, call us or send videos whenever you have time, so we know what you’re up to. And... bring your girlfriend home sooner rather than later - you can’t leave her out there all the time. Your brother is getting married soon, so you’re next..."
Sean never gets annoyed with his mother’s prattling. For those who have been away from home for long periods, the incessant chatter of their parents is what they miss most.
"Alright, alright," Mark Knight saw Miss Bell was waiting outside and said, "Stop talking; Sean has important things to do. If you miss him, give him a call or send a video. You can see him every day!"
Nancy Knight glared at him, tidied up Sean’s clothes, and watched her son get in the car and leave.
In the car, Miss Bell continued introducing Sean:
"This time, the experts have already translated many characters on the big bronze plate, proving that it was made as a tribute to a noble’s ancestor from the early Shang Dynasty."
"What’s the meaning of these characters?"
"It means that the noble received a dream from his ancestors, who recalled their bravery when fighting alongside Tang to overthrow the Xia Dynasty. They asked their descendants to record it as a memorial..."
Elijah and the others didn’t think much of it, but Sean, who was resting against the car seat with his eyes closed, suddenly sat up and asked loudly:
"Is what you’re saying true?"
"It’s true!" Miss Bell smiled after seeing Sean’s reaction.
Indeed, she guessed that if she shared the content on the big plate, Sean should have known what significance it held.
"Did it mention when and where his ancestor fought the Xia Dynasty?"
Miss Bell didn’t expect Sean to immediately catch the crux of the matter:
"The words that indicate the battlefield haven’t been translated yet," Miss Bell expressed some regret, "The experts are currently comparing them."
Oracle Bone Script and early Bronze ware texts can be difficult to translate, although some common words are easily recognizable. Those that are rare or no longer in use, however, are more challenging to decipher.
So Sean understood.
However, this time he was just going to watch the show, as he assumed that as an outsider, they wouldn’t ask him to do anything.
When the car arrived at the museum, Sean had barely gotten out before Deputy Curator Joseph Davis came to greet him.
Seeing Sean, Mr. Davis’s smile bloomed involuntarily!
"Mr. Knight, you’re here! Come on, the experts are all waiting. You have no idea, this time, well-known experts in the field of bronze ware from all over the country have come..."
Sean was puzzled, "I’m just a layman. What does their research have to do with me?"
However, when he entered the room, he discovered that it really mattered!
In a research room at the museum, the large bronze plate stood in the center.
Some of the green copper rust had been removed from the plate, revealing the exquisite, majestic, and antique patterns on the outside.
Were they bird and animal patterns?
Sean seemed to have some impression but didn’t know for sure.
From here, Sean could see the characters inside the plate, although he couldn’t understand them.
The writing was much clearer, but most of the characters were still unrecognizable to Sean.
However, his attention soon shifted away from the plate.
That’s because there were at least forty or fifty elderly people looking at him in the room!
Fire was in their eyes!
If it had been forty or fifty beautiful ladies looking at him like this, Sean would have been delighted!
Their smiles were as eager as the expression of the Scorpion Demoness looking at Tang Monk!
If they couldn’t get you, they’d eat you!
Unfortunately, the youngest person in the room appeared to be at least fifty years old, and they were all men, which left Sean feeling cold!
Before Mr. Davis could speak, a medium built and well-maintained man who appeared to be around fifty hurried up to Sean with a smile:
"You’re Sean, right? Ayo, ayo, we’re practically family through Mr. Richardson! I’m here to apologize on behalf of Mr. Thomas. He was confused and made a mistake! He’s been regretful these past two days! You see, fate has brought us together. You called Mr. Thomas before, and now I’m here. We were wrong. I apologize to you! You see, perhaps we should strengthen our cooperation..."
At first, Sean was baffled, but as he listened to the man’s words, he began to understand.
This must be a high-ranking official or curator from the museum where Thomas Harris worked, or perhaps another deputy director.
Upon hearing this, Joseph Davis became anxious and said hastily:
"Curator Lawson, things can’t be settled like that! Mr. Knight is already cooperating with us, and we’ve signed a contract. It’s impossible to change that now..."
"We can afford the liquidated damages!" Curator Lawson was quite generous. His museum might not rank as high as the New Bo Museum, but it had money!
