Chapter 355: Chapter 273: The Fallen Marsh

"This must be the commander’s terrace!" Sean Knight shared his guess aloud.

"It should be." Elijah Hastings walked closer and observed, "This earth platform is a quadrangular pyramid, not a round shape like the original tumulus tomb. Look, all four sides are flat..."

"So it’s the commander’s terrace." Douglas Cooper confirmed.

Lincoln Harrington gave him a glance: "You act like a professional."

Douglas chuckled but didn’t say anything.

"Let’s go and see," Sean waved his hand, "We’ll know when we get closer."

If it was a tumulus tomb, even if it had been excavated, there should still be traces.

If it was a commander’s terrace, it should be solid and naturally have nothing inside.

The main point was that there were five or six earth platforms in a row, and they all looked similar, making it hard to believe they were natural formations.

Listening to the four of them speak Chinese, Cheryl Suweton felt a bit confused, but she roughly understood their intentions by the direction they were heading.

She hurriedly followed, still staying by Sean’s side.

They stopped in front of an earth platform, Sean put down his backpack, took out a shovel, and said:

"I’ll go up and take a look."

At this point, Cheryl also realized that the earth platform was likely man-made, but she didn’t understand the connection between it and treasure hunting.

The Golden Horde was nomadic, and Kyiv Ross Duchy did not have tombs of this form.

What was the point of excavating here then?

Once she focused on her expertise, the trauma Cheryl had suffered mentally faded away, and she took out a shovel to join Sean on the platform.

Years of erosion had changed the platform’s original appearance, but it was still mostly recognizable since no human disturbances had damaged it.

Standing at the highest point, Sean looked at the other earth platforms, and they indeed were in a perfectly straight line. Moreover, the size and shape of these platforms were identical.

This was the real deal!

Of course, looking down with the Sky Eye, there was nothing in the middle of the platforms. They were solid inside, ruling out the possibility of tumulus tombs.

Since this was the commander’s terrace, it must have been the place where the Golden Horde’s army once gathered and set out for battle.

Now, they could basically determine the route from here to Kyiv, which would be the path of the transported gold.

However, the gold shipment hadn’t reached this location yet, so Sean and the others would have to keep heading southeast.

"Boss, come down. We are too exposed on the platform," Elijah went up to the platform and reminded Sean while he was checking the map.

Sean immediately realized the issue and quickly descended, pulling Cheryl, who was still examining the soil composition, along with him.

Cheryl looked at him, puzzled.

"Let’s go down. We are too high up here, and people from afar could spot us easily," explained Sean.

Upon hearing this, Cheryl suddenly shivered and quickly followed him down.

Lincoln and Douglas were using telescopes to scan the surroundings, ruling out suspicious points one by one.

After coming down, they found a flat spot, and Sean spread out the map as Elijah helped align the map with the actual terrain.

Fortunately, the local map was very clear, and the earth platform was clearly marked as a landmark.

After aligning, Sean drew a line from the platform to Kyiv with a pen, then said:

"This line from here to Kyiv is our target route. Of course, it could be slightly off to the sides or even farther away. But this is the general direction."

At least they were one step closer to the correct target and had a rough direction.

Elijah and the others were also clear about what treasure they were looking for, and they basically understood the situation as soon as they found the commander’s terrace.

After all, they had seen it once in Chauncey and were mentally prepared. So when they saw it here, they knew right away that the locals could hardly build this scale of the terrace.

Firstly, the customs were different, making it impossible; secondly, there was the issue of labor. This was not Greco-Roman nor Egypt, where there was no need or ability to create such massive earthworks.

It could only have been the Golden Horde, which had attacked Poland at the time.

This time, Sean explained in English, so Cheryl understood, but not fully.

She grabbed Sean’s arm and asked, "Why are you so sure?"

Now as teammates, Sean didn’t plan to take all the findings for himself, so he pointed at the earth platform and explained:

"This is called a commander’s terrace. It’s the place where the army would gather and depart for battle."

"So what?" Cheryl’s mind wasn’t quite clear, not having studied Chinese history, so she didn’t understand the implications of the commander’s terrace.

"Only a large-scale army could build such a terrace.

Its existence indicates that the Golden Horde army was stationed here in the past. So, the destination for the gold shipment from the Kyiv Ross Duchy should have been here," Sean explained.

With this combined with what Sean had said before, Cheryl finally understood that the route was now confirmed!

She looked at Sean with admiration.

Although she had been in the business longer than Sean, she felt she was lagging far behind him in this aspect.

Of course, it had to do with the aura of saving a life, as well as the tremendous change in Sean’s temperament after absorbing so much energy – the kind that would make someone want to devote themselves to their rescuer.

Otherwise, they would owe a lifetime of servitude in their next life.

Seeing her gaze, Sean immediately explained:

"It’s because the Golden Horde was once a vassal state of the Yuan Empire of China, so we know more about their customs, which is very normal."
