Chapter 353: Chapter 272: Rescue

Douglas Cooper was speaking Chinese, which Eric Barber couldn’t understand, and he didn’t bother asking.

They waited restlessly for a while longer, finishing their lunch. Since the gunshots stopped, they decided to set out.

When they stood up, the Walkie-Talkie suddenly crackled, followed by Cheryl Suweton’s panicked voice:

"Over here...I’ve encountered armed soldiers...maybe deserters! They have guns, I’m hidden in a tree-top; they just passed by me... you guys..."

Her words on the Walkie-Talkie abruptly cut off.

Eric Barber, standing beside Sean Knight, was puzzled. He tried to speak on the Walkie-Talkie, but Elijah Hastings grabbed it from him, saying:

"Don’t talk; she has a situation over there, and the Walkie-Talkie will easily reveal her position!"

Eric Barber understood immediately.

However, Van Derick’s side didn’t get it, and Veronica Wilson’s voice came from the Walkie-Talkie:

"What’s going on? What deserters? Be clear, over!"

"Damn it!" Douglas Cooper cursed after hearing her voice:

"This fucking crazy woman is going to get that girl killed!"

He was still speaking in Chinese, but from his tone, Eric Barber could tell what was going on.

Eric Barber immediately tried to call Van Derick on the phone but found there was no signal.

He had a satellite phone on him, but Van Derick’s group didn’t have one.

"FUCK!" Eric Barber cursed: "Damn it! Why does it have to cause trouble now?"

In reality, he understood that the two women Van Derick brought with him were most likely not professionals but were likely just tagging along for fun or to be toyed with.

Encountering a situation like this, it would be strange if they could handle it the right way!

"We have to save Cheryl!" Eric Barber suddenly said, "This way, you lead your people to guard the camp, and I will bring some security personnel to check it out."

"I’ll go instead." Sean Knight rejected his idea, "In this regard, my people and I should be more professional than you."

Sean Knight was not playing the saint. For this treasure hunt, Eric Barber was a key figure, and Sean did not want him to run into any problems.

If something happened to him, then the entire mission would be fruitless.

Sean Knight felt confident that he could provide safety assurance if he brought his team.

He wasn’t bluffing, just measuring his strength.

However, in Eric Barber’s eyes, it seemed that the young man was virtuous, kind-hearted, and brave. Eric didn’t have to speak up!

"Take two mercenaries, grab your guns, and follow my people." Sean Knight had confidence in this regard.

Although these mercenaries looked professional, he felt Elijah Hastings and his team were stronger.

Lightly equipped and simple, Sean Knight’s group of four, along with two armed mercenaries, followed the direction Cheryl had taken.

Along the way, Douglas Cooper and Elijah Hastings took turns leading, searching for traces of Cheryl’s movements.

Lincoln Harrington kept pace with Sean Knight, while the two mercenaries were responsible for security on both sides.

The journey was silent unless a special situation arose, and no one spoke.

They walked for over an hour, covering almost four to five kilometers before finally stopping.

By then, Sean Knight could hear voices in front of him.

It seemed there were four or five people arguing about something.

Sean Knight immediately raised his hand to signal everyone to stop.

Elijah Hastings, the three of them, and the mercenaries gathered together.

"Ahead, about 200 meters away, four to five people are talking. I think it might have something to do with Cheryl."

Sean Knight whispered before waiting for their reaction.

"We’ll sneak over there," Elijah Hastings immediately said. "If Cheryl really has been caught by them, we’ll act accordingly."

"If they have guns, kill if necessary!" Sean Knight now spoke Chinese.

"You two stay here and protect our boss." Elijah Hastings addressed the two mercenaries.

The mercenaries exchanged glances and nodded.

"Let’s have one of your guns!" Elijah Hastings spoke again.

One of the mercenaries handed over a gun.

The three of them silently moved forward.

The jungle went quiet again.

The occasional quarrel that broke out was quite obvious.

Sean Knight wondered whether Van Derick’s side would say something else.

Fortunately, he had switched off the Walkie-Talkie, otherwise, if that silly woman spoke up at that moment, she would have killed them.

A few minutes later, a burst of intense gunfire suddenly erupted from the direction, followed by several short cries and then silence.

Sean Knight didn’t worry about Elijah Hastings and his team. After all, in addition to the exposed guns they carried, each person had at least one more gun hidden in their backpacks or on them personally.

With the enemy exposed and guns in hand, if the three of them still failed, their opponents might as well be pirate-flag level enemies.

Obviously, this was not very likely.

Although Sean Knight reassured himself like this, providing a bit of self-consolation.

His heart was still quite nervous.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long before Lincoln Harrington ran back to report:

"The people over there have been cleared out; boss, you can go and see."

"Is Cheryl there?"

"Yes, she’s tied up... We were just in time."

Sean Knight and the others walked over and understood what he meant by "just in time."

Although Cheryl had been untied, her clothes were torn and thrown on the ground. She was now dressed in a camouflage uniform.

The female camouflage uniform must have been taken from her backpack.

A lot of her things from the backpack were scattered on the ground, and she hadn’t had time to tidy it up yet.
