Chapter 343: Chapter 267: Becoming the Target Myself!
When Sean saw that the camera was still flashing and pointing at him, he had already guessed that someone was watching him!
His every move before had been seen by others, and Sean even guessed that someone probably knew by now that he had found something here!
Otherwise, they wouldn’t be staring at him all the time!
He made an immediate decision and asked the staff member:
"If I find the treasure outside, does it still count in these proceedings? Do I need to do more paperwork if I decide to dig it up?"
Eiris Perez had previously mentioned that the treasure hunt area was within the surrounding wall and inside the Ancient Castle.
Sean remembered this very clearly.
Now he was worried about whether this land belonged to Eiris Perez or the Treasure Hunters Federation since he’d found something outside the wall. If it didn’t, he would have to go through more procedures under the watchful eyes of everyone.
That would be very troublesome.
The staff member was also surprised and asked, fearing he had heard wrong:
"Sir, did you say you found something out here?"
"Yes. Just where I was earlier." Sean pointed to the spot, "I think there might be something hidden underneath."
"Alright, I’ll confirm that first and report it right now." The diligent staff member registered Sean’s sign No. 28 before taking out his walkie-talkie to report the discovery.
From the conversation, Sean could tell that this staff member didn’t know whether the area outside the surrounding wall belonged to the treasure hunt competition area.
However, he wasn’t too worried. If it did, he could dig normally; if it didn’t, he would still dig – he couldn’t let it fall into someone else’s hands.
The staff member quickly put down the walkie-talkie and said to Sean:
"Sir, Mr. Eiris Perez will be here shortly. He says he needs to see it for himself before making a decision. But from what I know, a large part of the land outside the surrounding wall also belongs to the master of the Ancient Castle, so please don’t worry."
Instead of leaving after speaking, the staff member stayed and patiently waited with Sean.
It wasn’t long before Eiris Perez, the chairman of the Treasure Hunters Federation, hurried to the entrance.
Seeing Sean, a smile immediately appeared on his face:
"Mr. Sean Knight, I didn’t expect you to make a discovery here, what a surprise - "
Sean was surprised that Eiris Perez knew him. He shook hands with him and reiterated the question he had asked the staff member earlier.
Eiris listened and laughed, saying:
"Don’t worry, Mr. Sean Knight, all land within a one-kilometer radius of the Ancient Castle belongs to me. So even if it’s outside the wall, it’s still within the treasure hunt competition area – and you’ve just solved a huge problem for me!"
Before, Eiris had searched inside the castle but hadn’t noticed any large-scale metal reactions.
So, when organizing the treasure hunt competition, he wanted to see if his thinking was correct.
Now, with Sean’s efforts, he immediately realized that his previous thoughts had been limited.
Who said that wealth must be within the wall?
Perhaps centuries ago, there may have been buildings outside the wall, but due to war or other reasons, the buildings were gone, and the treasures buried should still be there!
Sean was not aware of Eiris’ thought process and laughed, saying:
"In that case, I’ll mark this location and start digging."
"Sure thing." Eiris, out of curiosity, called some staff members to help and watched the digging process as well.
The camera was still pointing here, but Sean didn’t care about it anymore.
The soil was firm, so shovels couldn’t break through it. With Sean’s permission, the staff brought a small excavator to dig up the soil, revealing the underlying stone slab.
Upon seeing the stone slab, Eiris’ smile became even brighter.
Of course, it was a bit disappointing. But since the Ancient Castle was rented, and time was running out, Eiris hadn’t found the treasure on his own. Now, during the treasure hunt competition, there was a high likelihood that Sean would find the treasure, which would boost the reputation of the Treasure Hunters Federation.
Although the treasure would belong to Sean, as long as they could get him to join the Federation, both fame and profit would stay within the organization.
It was a good thing!
The staff helped Sean pry open the stone slab, revealing the dark stairs below.
"It’s most likely a basement." A staff member guessed.
Sean took out a flashlight, shone it down, and said:
"It could also be a hidden path," he stood up straight, pointing to the Ancient Castle, "leading there!"
Eiris suddenly realized:
"That must be it! That makes sense! If the castle were besieged, people inside could escape through the hidden path to the outside wall."
An escape route!
"Let’s not go down just yet." Eiris, the experienced, advised, "There may be toxic gases inside. Let them disperse for a bit."
Sean nodded. In fact, he wasn’t too afraid of toxic gases; as his physique had improved, he could hold his breath for quite some time.
However, concealing his skills was better than showing off, so he went with the flow. After a while, Sean took out a lighter, lit a piece of paper from his pocket, and threw it down.
The flames on the paper weakened a bit but didn’t go out completely. They were still burning on the stairs below when Sean said:
"There’s oxygen. I’ll go down and take a look."
With a shovel in one hand and a flashlight in the other, he walked down the stairs. As Sean didn’t invite him, Eiris didn’t follow, and the staff members also waited outside.
