Chapter 318: Chapter 254: Unexpected Clue_3

"Shouldn’t the news have spread already?" Sean Knight was suspicious. If the news was public, he feared other people might have salvaged most of it by the time he got there.

"Yes, the news did spread, that’s true," Joanna Davis seemed fully expecting Sean’s reaction and continued: "But none of the salvage companies that came found the treasure. They only found some sailboat fragments. So even though there are still salvage companies working there, they haven’t made any significant finds."

"Could it be that there’s no real treasure on that sailboat?" Sean speculated again.

"No, that’s not the case," Joanna shook her head. "According to experts, based on the writing on the salvaged ship planks, it is indeed the Spanish galleon Odyssey that was transporting looted gold from America at the time. It not only contains the looted gold but also a holy relic from the Maya Clan!"

Upon hearing about the holy relic, Sean grew instantly interested.

He didn’t lack for gold now, but he was really curious about such strange and mysterious items!

"I’ll take a look after I rest here for two days!"

"I want to go too..." Joanna playfully whined and pouted.

"What about your studies?" Sean asked.

At this question, Joanna immediately became crestfallen.

Right now, she was too busy with schoolwork and couldn’t take any time off.

Sean grabbed her hand and laughed:

"Since time is tight, let’s get to work!"

...

Three days later, after seeing Kathy, Sean went for a walk at the freight yard.

Upon seeing Sean, Jason Caldwell let out a dramatic scream and ran over to hug him.

Sean pushed him aside and asked about the recent developments.

Jason honestly reported the situations in all three freight yards.

Sean had entrusted him with the three freight yards when he left, and Jason had performed admirably.

Plus, the managers of the other two freight yards were also handpicked by Jason, so they were all very obedient.

Sean already knew from Kathy that the three freight yards were generating a stable monthly income of eight hundred thousand US Dollars, with most of the income coming from container auctions.

This was already very impressive.

Knowing that Sean would be leaving soon, Jason expressed his regrets and insisted on inviting Sean to lunch at his place.

He also mentioned that Freya Perez hadn’t seen Sean for a long time and was getting a little unhappy.

Sean agreed, and then went to see John, bringing him a special wood-carved mask from Kazakhstan.

John was elated to learn that the mask was a gift brought specifically for him from Kazakhstan by Sean.

The freight yard had always been quite stable, partly due to Jason’s management, partly due to Paul Walker’s assistance, and also because of John’s protection.

One could say that John had helped Sean a lot.

In the end, Sean went to see Paul as well.

Having met everyone, Sean and Elijah Hastings, along with others, bought a batch of diving equipment and rented an airplane to Hawaii.

...

Now the main text of 4000 words is complete; it’s time for some extra talk.

I remember when I was in school, I read in a magazine about Chinese people who suffered under Japanese oppression during the war seeking compensation from Japan.

This included families who lost members in the war, women who were forced into sexual slavery, and laborers who were forcibly conscripted by the Japanese.

However, most of the cases were lost because the Japanese did not acknowledge the abuse.

Nevertheless, in some cases, such as the lawsuit against Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for forcibly conscripting over 30,000 laborers from Hebei, Shandong, and Henan to work in their coal mines, some Japanese companies agreed to a "settlement" and to pay compensation (though still not admitting guilt).

Mitsubishi agreed to pay 100,000 RMB to each laborer, but only a few victims have come forward to claim the money so far.

According to the agreement, if not all the claims are made, the money will be returned.

The deadline is September 2024.

I hope the families of those victimized learn about this sooner and claim their rightful compensation. Although it might be too little and too late, it is still something they deserve.

(Don’t worry, this extra talk doesn’t count against the 4,000-word target for the main text)
