Chapter 309 - 250: Do You Think I Won’t Take Things Away Just Because You Don’t Allow Me To?

Chapter 309: Chapter 250: Do You Think I Won’t Take Things Away Just Because You Don’t Allow Me To?

It took Sean Knight nearly three hours to go from the felt tent to pick up the items in the main hall, and then return to the main hall.

When he returned to the felt tent, the entire place was quiet.

Only the occasional neighing of horses and the sound of the wind could be heard.

Most of the tribal members were already resting. Today’s news had excited everyone too much, leading to a majority having had a few too many drinks.

Lincoln Harrington came to report:

"No abnormalities."

"Where’s Douglas Cooper?" Elijah Hastings asked.

"There’s a girl from the tribe milking a cow, he went over to watch."

Elijah Hastings looked a bit unhappy, muttering:

"Such an irresponsible behavior."

Sean Knight smiled and didn’t interfere. Douglas Cooper was Elijah’s responsibility, as long as he didn’t cause trouble, he could do as he pleased.

Sean Knight took a walk around the felt tent. Soon, the sky darkened, and the night wind grew stronger. He returned to the felt tent prepared for him and took a rest.

Early the next day, Sean Knight found Eckram, Saat, and others already herding cattle and sheep on the plains on their horses. Old Master Ellie was washing up at the entrance of the felt tent. Sean Knight greeted him, then went about his own cleaning routine. Afterwards, he ate breakfast and drank some milk tea.

After breakfast, Eckram said to Sean Knight:

"Mr. Knight, shall we take care of the paperwork now?"

Sean Knight responded with a smile:

"Sure, let’s take our car."

Eckram was familiar with these procedures and led Sean Knight to the city, where he met with the relevant personnel. The paperwork was troublesome, but with money paving the way, it was all sorted out.

In fact, Sean Knight felt that this change of ownership could be done or not done. Technically, as a foreigner, he wasn’t eligible to take ownership, so it was essentially a contract.

Once the procedure was completed, Sean Knight handed Eckram a package in the car, which contained five hundred thousand US dollars.

Eckram counted the money and was slightly puzzled:

"Why is there an extra 10,000 dollars?"

"Consider it a token of my goodwill." Sean Knight stated sincerely. Yesterday, when he first saw the inside, he only noticed two golden figurines, hence offered five hundred thousand.

He had originally thought the other party would haggle, but to his surprise, Ellie and the others agreed without any further discussion.

Now the items he received were worth tens of millions of dollars, only costing him 500,000, which made Sean Knight feel slightly guilty.

Many needed to be resettled, but suddenly giving more money seemed a bit inappropriate, he also didn’t know how to express it, so he simply said:

"If you have any troubles, you can come to me. Nothing else to say, if it’s about money, I can lend a hand."

Originally, Sean Knight planned to leave right away, but Eckram disagreed. Because the car couldn’t accommodate all, Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington stayed back. So, they had to return.

However, halfway through, Sean Knight asked Elijah Hastings to detour to the small town where Alistair Murray’s uncle Thakkar lived. He had previously told Alistair Murray that he wanted to sublet the grassland to Thakkar. Thakkar seemed quite interested on the phone.

When they reached Thakkar’s house and settled this matter, Thakkar said he would drive over to look at the situation of the grassland the next day.

Sean Knight’s plan was to not ask for money, but instead to receive some mutton and local specialties from Thakkar every winter.

Thakkar was, of course, more than happy to agree.

When they returned to the felt tent, Eckram immediately found Ellie and handed over the money.

Even though Sean Knight had made things very clear yesterday and had already paid the deposit, it wasn’t until all the money was transferred that Ellie completely relaxed.

The dinner was had in Saat’s company and was quite lavish, but no alcohol was served.

Ellie and others were discussing how to use the money, so they didn’t come over.

While eating, Sean Knight said to Elijah and others:

"After Thakkar comes over tomorrow and we sort out the grassland contract, we’ll return to China."

Upon hearing about going back to China, everyone, including Alistair Murray, was ecstatic.

Finally, they could return to their homeland!

"Tomorrow we’ll go to Almaty to purchase some local specialties. After that, we’ll head to Panfilov."

Sean Knight planned the itinerary. Though this trip had them traveling to many places, most of them were not far from the national boundary, so the return should be quick.

An hour later, Thakkar drove there. Seeing the pasture lands, he was extremely satisfied. Especially when Sean Knight told him the area of the grassland, Thakkar immediately wanted to lease it.

The two men drafted a rough contract. According to Thakkar, they would need to go to the town to formalize another contract.

At this point, Sean Knight had more or less accomplished his goals. But just as they were about to leave, a police car followed by two other cars was heading towards the felt tent.

The tribal residents, including Lincoln Harrington who had been on the lookout, noticed it early and swiftly notified Ellie and Sean Knight.

"That’s strange. We hardly ever have cars coming to the tribe, what happened today?" Eckram was somewhat surprised.

Lincoln Harrington added:

"One of the cars belongs to the expert from yesterday. Could it be him bringing people?"

Sean Knight immediately believed the conjecture - it had to be!

The expert failed to prevent Ellie from transferring the grasslands and the main hall to Sean Knight, and now I’m afraid he’s using the power of relevant government agencies to interfere!

Sure enough, when the car arrived at the felt tent, the expert got out, triumphantly leading the police to the entrance of the largest tent, blocking Sean Knight’s path.

"I told you, this main hall, this relic belongs to the country, and you can’t sell it at will. Now I suspect that you are involved in a case of smuggling cultural relics, so you need to cooperate with the investigation!"

The expert overstepped his authority, and the police were somewhat disgruntled. However, the superiors required cooperation with this expert, so the police put up with it.

Once the expert had spoken, he signaled the police to proceed, and they reluctantly went forward, repeating the message to Sean Knight and his associates.

Alistair Murray translated their words for Sean Knight.

After listening, Sean said to Alistair:

"Call the embassy and tell them we’re experiencing unfair treatment. We hope to get help from the embassy!"

The police heard Sean Knight speak, but Alistair didn’t translate it for him. Instead, he started looking for the phone, and they sensed something was amiss.

He immediately asked Alistair, who replied while looking for the embassy’s number.

The policeman immediately realized that the situation was indeed troublesome.

Things have changed in the past two years. In the past, if such an incident occurred, the embassy might not have been able to help, and at most they would say to obey local laws and cooperate with local police.

This was because some international affairs required cooperation from Kazakhstan.

But things have changed in the past two years, and the international situation has shifted. To put it realistically, one very important aspect of Kazakhstan’s economic development is the need for China’s assistance.

So when they heard that they were planning to alert the embassy, the police immediately told Alistair:

"We are just conducting a routine check, we have no intention of making things difficult for you. As long as you cooperate normally, we will certainly not thwart you."

The police were also in a difficult position. They didn’t want to cause trouble.

On the other hand, the expert, having heard the policeman’s words, was immediately unwilling. He insisted that the police detain Sean Knight and his associates for investigation.

Moreover, he said he feared they might damage the relics and even suspected they had stolen cultural relics from the country!

The policeman patiently explained that they must follow proper procedures when conducting investigations.

Fortunately, the police had come prepared with all the necessary search warrants and such. Not wanting to cause trouble, Sean Knight and his group let the police search their vehicles and their tent.

But they found nothing.

Obviously, the expert didn’t believe this. He told the police not to let Sean Knight and his group go just yet, as he wanted to inspect the main hall first.

Irked, Sean Knight told Alistair:

"Call the embassy and tell them someone is restricting our personal freedom!"

At this point, Ellie and his group spoke up:

"These are our esteemed guests, they have not violated any laws or breached any rules, you can’t treat them this way!"

The expert ignored them and marched into the mountain with his team.

Sean Knight actually wasn’t worried about them damaging the main hall. After all, the relic was located here, and these experts should protect the building even more carefully than he would.

"We want to leave, we hope you won’t stop us." Sean Knight said to the police, and then ordered his people to leave.

The police were also helpless, like a mouse in a windmill. In the end, feeling they had no choice left, they decided to follow Sean Knight’s convoy with their police car. They followed them all the way to Almaty.

Sean Knight and his associates didn’t care about the police. They shopped in Almaty, had lunch, and then detoured to Panfilov.

The police didn’t follow them past this point.

In truth, they knew very well that if Sean Knight and his associates were carrying contraband cultural relics or such, they would have a hard time passing the customs check.

So they didn’t need to worry about them once they arrived here. After all, Sean Knight’s documents were in order and the contract to purchase the land was authentic and valid. They had no grounds to block Sean Knight and his group.

When Sean Knight and his associates arrived at the customs, they were unexpectedly stopped again.

Their luggage was given "special attention" and was searched multiple times.

Then Sean Knight saw the expert again.

The expert requested a separate room, where he confronted Sean Knight and Alistair Murray.

"Speak up, where did you hide the cultural relics?" The expert insisted that Sean Knight and his associates had taken cultural relics from his country.

Upon hearing Alistair’s translation, Sean Knight responded coldly:

"You’ve already searched and found nothing. So, please don’t waste my time. Also, regarding this unjust treatment, I will expose it on the internet!

I want the whole world to know how the customs and related departments in Kazakhstan treat tourists!"

Upon hearing these words, the customs officers listening through the monitoring system became anxious!

After all, they had searched Sean Knight’s luggage and didn’t find anything illicit.

If it weren’t for the requests of this cultural relics expert to detain Sean Knight, they certainly wouldn’t have kept him here. They would have let him through long ago!

Nowadays, the world economy is not booming, and they certainly don’t want to miss out on quality resources like Chinese tourists!

If it’s really advertised that they are treating Chinese tourists unfairly here, and then this rumor gets spread, they can’t bear the consequences!

Naturally, the expert thought Sean Knight was lying and wanted to continue questioning, but the customs officers came in. They directly returned Sean Knight’s documents and even apologized while smiling:

"Mr. Knight, we have finished the inspection. We’re sorry to have delayed your time, and you can now pass through the customs!"

The cultural relics expert was dissatisfied and wanted to argue with the customs officers, but nobody paid attention to him now.

After all, they had given them plenty of face and thoroughly checked the luggage. They didn’t find anything, so the customs could not interfere anymore!
