Chapter 279: Chapter 235: Someone’s Making Trouble!
At night, Sean Knight and the others moved out to set up camp at a place far away from the mountain.
They had a peaceful night.
The next day, the same group arrived again, this time bringing with them even longer cables. They had two videographers yesterday; today they had three, and their commentary was more professional and engaging—there was a hint of mystery to their material.
Of course, this was the report Elijah Hastings provided after he listened to Willow Taylor’s translations.
As expected, they still didn’t unearth anything.
"Apparently, their one video yesterday got over a million likes, gaining them tens of thousands of followers!" Elijah exaggeratedly said.
Sean Knight was unmoved.
Willow Taylor explained:
"These numbers, they’re pretty impressive, even for all of Mongolia!"
Alright then, considering Mongolia only has a few million people—seems equivalent to a third-tier city—Sean understood this better.
Most of the likes and followers could reasonably be assumed to be from people abroad.
Their own country’s population alone was not enough to drive this kind of engagement.
After explaining, Willow Taylor went back to work.
Now that Webb Crete and Jenny have left, the only professionals left in the dinosaur fossil excavation team are Grant Kenneth and herself.
She compounds her workload by also acting as a translator.
However, it was apparent that Willow Taylor was enjoying the experience—she was essentially sidelined before, and now, she was nearly at the center of the operations—naturally, she was gratified.
Tired but fulfilled, that was her.
At this moment, a satellite phone rang.
The phone wasn’t Sean’s—it was meant for the expedition team.
Willow Taylor picked it up, listened for a bit, and her face turned pale.
After hanging up, she immediately ran towards Sean, anxiously saying:
"Mr. Knight, something terrible has happened. An investigative team from the provincial government has arrived in the town. They are here to investigate allegations of our team illegally excavating ancient relics..."
Sean’s mind immediately turned to the incident where he took Barnes to the Buddhist Temple ruins to excavate treasure.
Could it be that Barnes reported them?
No way!
Sean dismissed that speculation immediately.
Barnes and his family just didn’t seem like those kinds of people.
Furthermore, the people who came were from the government—the likelihood Barnes had any connections there seemed slim.
Could it be...
A certain deceitful, tea-loving face surfaced in Sean’s mind!
It could only be her!
"Boss, I will take the stuff and hide it right now..." Elijah whispered.
"No need, I will deal with this." Sean waved his hand, asking Willow Taylor, "When will they be here?"
"They’ve already left the town. They should arrive here within the hour at most. Quite a bit of the town’s folk know our location. The people from the province managed to inquire about it from one of the people we previously hired, who then covertly told me."
Sean was surprised that Willow Taylor had such good relations with people from the town.
"Willow Taylor, this information is extremely important to me! I’m going to reward you and your friend with 10,000 US dollars."
Sean took out 10,000 US dollars and handed it to Willow Taylor.
Willow Taylor quickly tried to refuse, but Sean firmly said:
"To be honest, the value of this information, to me, exceeds a million US dollars! This 10,000 US dollars is what you deserve."
He then spoke to Elijah:
"In the meantime, you’ll be in charge here, mainly overseeing safety. I’m going to take a drive around, I’ll be back shortly!"
After that, Sean drove off in the off-road vehicle loaded with Buddhist Temple relics into the depth of the Gobi desert.
"Is the boss safe doing this?" Douglas Cooper was quite worried.
"Relax, if anything happens to us, nothing will happen to the boss." Elijah had a lot of confidence in Sean. "Alright, we need to be more cautious. There are quite a few people here today, they cannot be allowed to get close to the excavation site!"
After Sean was out of everyone’s sight, he parked and transferred the relics from the trunk into another spatial realm, then made a few more rounds before driving back.
Seeing Sean’s safe return, Elijah and the others sighed in relief.
Despite what they’d said, nobody knew what one might encounter within the Gobi desert.
There was still an unknown creature underground!
Sean quietly gathered his men and told them to hide all other guns apart from the hunting rifles.
Elijah and the rest complied with his order.
After tens of minutes, a police car and an ordinary off-road vehicle arrived at the excavation site.
Seeing the police arrive, the short video content creators, busy fabricating topic after topic, scattered like birds and beasts.
The five armed policemen who got off the car paid them no mind, instead they protected three other individuals that got off another off-road vehicle and walked towards the excavation site.
"Who’s in charge here?" the leading policeman asked aloud.
Willow Taylor quickly translated.
Both Sean and Grant Kenneth stepped forward.
Grant Kenneth stepping forward was a bit of a surprise to Sean.
Since it was clearly not a good situation, Sean had not expected Grant Kenneth to show up at all.
"I am the sponsor, and he is the leader of the expedition." Sean introduced, then asked: "What are you here for?"
A thin, tall middle-aged man got off the off-road vehicle and said:
"We received a complaint stating that you are illegally excavating ancient relics in our country, Mongolia, and have obtained abundant precious artifacts!
You had better confess honestly, or you will face severe criminal punishment!"
The man tried to put on a threatening face, but his thin physique seemed at odds with his expression, making him appear somewhat ridiculous.
"We haven’t excavated any ruins." Grant Kenneth interrupted, his expression solemn, "We have filed paperwork with your Department of Culture for approval. We are a scientific expedition team that has come specifically to dig up dinosaur fossils! Our actions are under the protection of your country’s laws!"
