Chapter 271: Chapter 231: Saw It Again!

Sean Knight didn’t expect Elijah Hastings to be so insatiable, but he shook his head and said:

"I don’t think there’s anything left underground; let’s examine the surface. You saw that Barnes found treasures up there, right? Maybe we will have some luck as well."

"Alright!" Elijah, smiling, took off with Lincoln Harrington to start their search.

He knew that whatever they found would be theirs, and relished in the thrill of treasure hunting.

Sean took out a stack of US dollars and handed it to Barnes:

"This is your reward."

Barnes hastily refused, babbling something in a language Sean guessed was a refusal.

"Just take it." Sean stuffed the money into his hand. "I can afford it. Besides, this treasure hunt has been quite fruitful."

Barnes hesitated, then finally took the money, a look of gratitude across his face.

Sean thought Barnes was still quite naive. He initially wanted to give him some stern warnings, but with the language barrier and even a translator like Willow Taylor would have trouble translating, Sean ended up dropping it.

Staying oblivious seemed to be a good idea.

"Boss, I found something!" Elijah yelled from a distance.

Sean went over and saw Elijah excitedly waving a copper bell covered in rust.

"Nice, keep going. There should be more around here."

Indeed, shortly after, Lincoln found a gemstone bead, which looked rather beautiful.

Sean was just casually strolling around without using the Sky Eye when he stumbled upon a copper stamp, about the size of a pigeon egg. However, he couldn’t understand the inscription on it.

Noticing that it was getting late, Sean decided to wrap things up:

"We’d better get going!"

Elijah and Lincoln reluctantly returned to the car. Elijah seemed reluctant to leave, evidently feeling unfulfilled.

The group got into the car and followed the same route back home.

Upon arriving at Barnes’ place, they saw another car parked there. It looked like Douglas Cooper had already brought the car over.

Hearing the car, Douglas emerged from the sheepfold. Seeing them, a wide smile spread across his face.

"Did you guys see this?" Elijah asked, waving his copper bell. "We each found something!"

"What’s that?" Douglas examined it closely, clearly interested.

Jenny, Webb Crete, Grant Kenneth and Willow Taylor came out of the house, they hadn’t expected them all to be there.

"Well, we can’t stay here for long. We left our supplies back there." Seeing that everyone was present, Sean didn’t feel like criticising anyone in particular. He had serious concerns about leaving Grant and his team alone with just Douglas.

There was still that lurking fear.

After saying goodbye to Barnes and his family, Sean and his team hit the road back to the campground.

Fortunately, no one had come here in their absence.

"Barnes said they were the only family in a radius of some dozens of kilometers away. The nearest neighbor was even further away." Willow Taylor explained.

Getting out of the car, Elijah frowned at Douglas:

"Didn’t you clean up the sandstorm residue when you parked here?"

Douglas bowed his head guiltily, having been so preoccupied with something that could deter wolves, he had forgotten to tidy up the campsite.

"Alright, there shouldn’t be any danger here," Sean said, "Let’s divide the work, clean up the place, then get our supplies sorted out."

He scanned the area with the Sky Eye but did not spot any strange incidents in the vicinity.

Could that thing be hiding in the mountains?

But then, Sean’s goal for this trip was indeed in the mountains. It was very much possible that they would have to face it upfront.

After a day of fear and anxiety, Grant lost the energy to work further. Meanwhile Elijah, Lincoln, and others seemed to be rejuvenated. After tidying up the campground, they started preparing meals.

The three of them had a bit of an argument about who would go hunting. Eventually, Douglas lucked out in a game of rock-paper-scissors and, armed with the Hunting Rifle, brought back a Yellow Sheep not long after.

"Hunting around here is no challenge at all!" Douglas complained upon his return. "Those Yellow Sheep are like dopey roe deer. They just stand there instead of running away when they see people."

"Don’t play smart after getting a good deal," Elijah retorted. "If they indeed ran far away, you’d probably have returned empty-handed."

The three men, humming and hawing, had a good working relationship. In no time, they had skinned and portioned the Yellow Sheep, with some cuts going into the pot and others onto the grill.

Lincoln Harrington even prepared some wild vegetables and allium mongolicum regel using a special stove, making a delicious stir-fry.

Seeing the vitality of the three, Grant Kenneth remarked to Sean:

"Mr. Knight, the young men you brought along are really excellent! Their presence makes me feel a lot safer."

"You should also keep a close eye on your students," Sean responded, as he was about to find him, "If something like what happened with Jenny happens again, this expedition will be terminated."

"Absolutely, I’ll definitely warn her! If something like this happens again, I will immediately make her return home!" Grant did not want another incident and reassured Sean, "Please rest assured, Mr. Knight, I will prioritize the expedition over everything else. I am confident that we will surely unearth dinosaur fossils this time!"

Sean Knight nodded. A slight reminder was enough; Grant was skilful and didn’t need more guidance.

Given the prior experience with the sandstorm, everyone set up their tents in a triangle formation this time. However, they put up two more tents so everyone could spread out a bit.

Thankfully, the night passed without incident.

Early the next day after breakfast, Sean said to Grant:

"You guys continue to dig here today. I’m going to scout around the mountains."

Then he said to Lincoln and Douglas:

"You both stay here and protect the professor’s team. If someone leaves for any reason this time, there’s no need to go looking."
