Chapter 261: Chapter 225: Is this a bait this time?

Although the bamboo slips, ancient books, and cultural relics can’t be displayed and take up some space, Sean Knight was quite happy.

After all, he had successfully retrieved all the items intact, and managed to scam Oyama Itusmoku out of several million dollars - achieving a small measure of revenge.

The second day, Sean Knight called over Elijah Hastings and the others, taking out 150,000 dollars in cash and saying:

"This money is your bonus - fifty-thousand dollars per person. This was a grey area operation, remember to keep it confidential."

Elijah Hastings, Lincoln Harrington, and Douglas Cooper were all happy to take the money.

Since the money came from Elson Johnson, it wasn’t considered dirty money, so how they spent it wasn’t something Sean Knight planned on intervening with or reminding them about.

"Boss, do you think Oyama Itusmoku will come for revenge?" asked Elijah Hastings, after stashing away the money.

"Possible." Sean Knight thought for a moment and said, "In that case, for the next few days, you all will stay here in the villa."

Elijah Hastings and the others naturally had no objections. Douglas Cooper was especially excited - the meals at Sean Knight’s villa were much better than what they could get on their own.

Even though the food Freya Perez cooked was pretty good, they couldn’t eat it every day. Out of the three of them, only Elijah Hastings had a car. If he didn’t go, it wouldn’t be right for Douglas Cooper to go by himself.

Sean Knight had Kathy Lewis prepare rooms for the three men, while he continued to study the Mongolian Cavalry and Han Army documents in his study.

Sean Knight listed out all the information he could extract, and now the situation was becoming clearer.

He then compared this with the current map, slowly forming an overall impression in his mind.

Back then, almost all the gold and other wealth from the entire Eurasian continent was continually streaming towards Karakorum.

A considerable portion of it flowed out of Karakorum, used by the Gold Family to reward and allure other Mongolian tribes.

Most of this gold was either squandered by tribal leaders, or lost along the way due to various reasons.

These reasons included tribal mergers, burials with tribal leaders after their death, being buried on the spot during emergencies, and robbery during transport, among others.

The most accurate information Sean Knight could get were the previous few pieces.

And the one involving the sandstorm was the most likely to turn a profit.

Sean Knight was tempted.

He was ninety percent sure that Oyama Itusmoku hadn’t even looked at the documents, let alone study them.

Mr. Hawkins wouldn’t have researched such information either; after all, he wasn’t a professional treasure hunter.

Sean Knight planned to take Elijah Hastings and the others to check it out after some time. After all, these were China’s treasures - he wouldn’t be satisfied if they didn’t retrieve them.

At night, Elijah Hastings and the others took turns standing night watch, but there were no incidents.

But at the crack of dawn, Jason Caldwell called:

"Bosuns, someone broke into the freight yard last night and injured our security guard. Two of our patrol workers were shot, one killed and one injured."

Sean Knight could tell that Jason Caldwell was furious.

Those African-American workers were either Jason’s countrymen or relatives. Having worked together for a long time, Jason took pride in being able to help them make a fortune.

Now that they had been attacked, Jason naturally sought revenge.

"I got it. Send fifty-thousand dollars as compensation to the family of the deceased worker. The freight yard will cover the injured worker’s expenses. Don’t worry, their blood won’t have been spilled in vain!"

Sean Knight guessed that Oyama Itusmoku was the one behind all this. He might have thought Sean Knight would store the items in the freight yard, or maybe it was a warning to Sean Knight.

Apparently, this well-off Japanese man needed more than just a warning!

Sean Knight’s guess was correct. Oyama Itusmoku brought some bodyguards and came to visit in the morning.

Sean Knight didn’t let him enter the villa, instead talking to him right at the entrance, saying:

"You’re not welcome here!"

The bodyguard, also a Japanese man, was about to step forward when Elijah Hastings pushed him back.

Oyama Itusmoku hadn’t expected that his bodyguard would let him down like this. Although he was slightly angry, he hid his feelings well, and said to Sean Knight with a smile:

"Mr. Knight, since we are both honest men, let’s talk straight - I’d like to buy those items back for a million dollars."

"What items?" Sean Knight played dumb, "I don’t understand."

"Of course, I’m referring to those bamboo slips and ancient books." Oyama Itusmoku held back a sigh, "My patience is limited. I believe you wouldn’t want what happened to the freight yard to happen again, right?"

"Are you threatening me?" Sean Knight’s face darkened, "Just for this, I could report you!"

"Useless." Oyama Itusmoku, who had been living in the United States longer than Sean Knight and considered himself more in tune with the local ways, shook his finger, "You should be aware of the law here in the United States. As long as one has money, these few sentences won’t be enough to convict me."

Sean Knight knew this too, and didn’t really intend to report him.

"However, those items are important to me, very important! I’m giving you one day to consider this." Oyama Itusmoku held up a finger, "I believe in the end, Mr. Knight will make a wise choice."

Without waiting for Sean Knight to reply, he left with his bodyguard.

He regretted not bringing more bodyguards.

After the car had driven away, Oyama Itusmoku asked his bodyguard:

"Did anyone follow us?"

After driving around for a bit, the bodyguard replied:

"No."

Oyama Itusmoku heaved a sigh of relief.

"Go to Residence 2, I’ll stay there for now. And prepare for tomorrow’s action against Sean Knight. If he still doesn’t agree by then, we’ll find an opportunity to kidnap him!"

Oyama Itusmoku was convinced that the items were stolen by Sean Knight. Now, the buyer was pressuring him again, even issuing an ultimatum. He had to resolve this matter quickly.
