Chapter 250: Chapter 229: A Common Man’s Anger, Blood Splattered Five Steps Away!_2

It really was this bastard who reported us!

He won’t have a good death!

"...So, there is a good possibility that Luke will be released without any charges this time."

This is good news.

Even though it might cost some money, it’s better than being in jail.

Because of Luke’s situation, the treasure hunt had to be delayed for a few days.

Sean Knight didn’t idle away his time; the next day he went out to buy things like a crucible, torch, and mold, and then returned to the villa.

In the tool room, Sean dressed up properly, carefully melted the gold bars four at a time, and poured the molten gold into the mold. He created his own private gold ornaments - those of the twelve zodiac animals.

The gold melted quickly and took shape just as fast. After it had cooled, Sean took out the golden zodiac ornaments and looked at them. Though a bit rough, they were much better than the illegal ones.

It’s been more than thirty years, and it’s unknown whether those gold bars are still part of any ongoing cases, but Sean thought it was better to be safe than sorry.

From the forty gold bars found during the second search, Sean kept ten for Luke - and he felt justified in melting the rest.

After all, with Luke’s past approach, if Sean hadn’t offered help and hired a lawyer for him, he would probably be facing jail time.

That would really be the end of his life.

So those gold bars were the reward; Sean took them with a clear conscience.

After packing the gold ornaments in a box and tidying up, Sean made a phone call to Elijah Hastings.

Elijah came over with Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper. At the time when the police searched Sean’s room, Lincoln and Douglas almost resisted outside, but Luke and Elijah shouted, so they didn’t make a move.

However, the frustration was unavoidable.

"Even though we were wronged yesterday, we gained a lot," Sean knew this was the time to encourage his three bodyguards. "So don’t feel bad. This is how it is here.

Their police aren’t as civilized as ours. When they say they’ll shoot, they really mean it. So, accept some grievances and don’t take it to heart."

Douglas still felt a bit annoyed, "If we really wanted to fight, those guys wouldn’t stand a chance... just... sigh!"

One has to bow under the eaves.

"No worries, we may have suffered a little bit, but we’ll make money off of them..."

Sean deliberately lowered his voice:

"You know, this time we found gold that the American banks had lost... You three will each get a share of one kilogram."

"Boss, we can’t take it..." This time, Douglas unexpectedly did not feel happy but started to decline instead.

"Wrong!" Sean saw that Elijah and Lincoln wanted to say something, so he immediately raised his head: "With you guys around, I feel confident. I can search for treasures with peace of mind. Don’t think you haven’t done anything. If I really need you to step in, I won’t be soft-hearted. I know how capable you are!"

These words ultimately resolved the knot in Elijah and the others’ hearts.

They drove to Smith’s shop, with Sean walking in front and Elijah carrying the box from behind.

Seeing that Sean was doing this, Smith directly led them in.

"Sean, what good stuff did you bring me this time?" Smith asked with a smile.

"You have a look." Sean signaled Elijah to open the box.

Seeing the neatly arranged golden zodiac ornaments, Smith whistled and said with a smile:

"As I can see, these should be newly made. Can I take a closer look?"

"Of course."

Smith picked up a zodiac horse and examined it carefully.

After looking at it for a while, he took out a small scale to weigh it and used other instruments and tools to test it.

After the test, Smith nodded in satisfaction and then asked:

"Is it all the same gold?"

"Yes."

"Then it’s really good stuff." After thinking for a moment, Smith said:

"The price of gold has risen recently. There are nine kilograms of gold here. I can give you 600,000 dollars..."

"Hmm." Sean was happy with this price.

Sean asked Smith to write two checks, one for 540,000 dollars and another for 60,000 dollars.

Outside the door, Sean handed the check for 60,000 dollars to Elijah:

"This is for the three of you. However, if there are any actions with Luke and treasure hunting in the future, regardless of whether there are gains or not, you won’t get any."

"Understood." Elijah and the others were satisfied too.

Although the gains this time weren’t as great as last time, the amount of work done was also small. It only took two or three days, and already the gains were quite decent.

In the following days, Sean Knight and Joanna Davis spent time together, enjoying their world of just the two of them.

However, after one week, Malcolm Kingsley gave a phone call:

"Boss, Luke’s case is resolved. He’ll avoid jail, but his movements are restricted and he needs to report regularly to the Community."

"That’s a pretty good outcome," Sean thought.

"He wants to see you, but he can’t leave the community... "

"No problem, I’ll go to him."

After sending Joanna off, Sean called Elijah Hastings and they drove to Luke’s house.

"Sean, thank you so much!" Luke looked a bit haggard, but a sincere smile appeared on his face when he saw Sean, "If it weren’t for you, I might have been finished."

"You’re my partner," Sean joked, "I’m still counting on you for more treasure information to make money."

Hearing this, Luke took a package from his side and said to Sean:

"This contains the details of the third possible location with gold. I can no longer go out, so to thank you, I’ll give these to you."

The stuff was clearly prepared in advance, and Sean could understand Luke’s thoughts.

He took out a package from his pocket and placed it on the table in front of Luke:

"This is your share of what I found in the yard that day."

Luke was astonished:

"You found something there?"

"Yes. You should know that I’m currently the best Treasure Hunter."

Sean pointed to his eyes: "No treasure can escape my eyes!"

Luke put the small bag in front of Sean:

"Sean, I know you’re a kind and upright person, but I can’t accept this. I owe you a great favor, and these can’t repay that..."

Sean smiled and pushed the bag with the gold bars back:

"Don’t worry, I’ve already taken my share of saving you. This is the reconciled amount. Did Malcolm charge you less? Keep these, and at least make your life easier."

He looked up and saw Luke’s child at the door of the room, peeking out through a crack.

There were noises from the kitchen. Sean could tell that it was Luke’s wife.

He wasn’t interested in how their relationship had been restored. He comforted Luke a few more words, then stood up and left.

Back in the car, Sean started reading the documents.

As expected, the location is not in this community, but a few kilometers away.

It used to be a large car repair shop, which is still operating now. However, because it’s a bit remote and poorly managed, it’s semi-open for business.

"Let’s go have a look." Sean gave the address to Elijah, who was driving, and the car immediately headed there.

The car took several turns and entered a somewhat remote community. They couldn’t drive any further.

Sean got out of the car, leaving Lincoln Harrington to watch over it, and walked with Elijah and Douglas Cooper.

The buildings here are quite old. It seemed that Luke’s information in the documents was correct since the car repair shop hadn’t been renovated.

They walked through the narrow alley, mindful of the "lethal" garbage underfoot while observing their surroundings.

There was an elderly person sitting at the entrance, basking in the sun. He looked curious at Sean and the others, but his gaze was mostly cold and indifferent.

After walking through this nearly 100-meter-long, one-meter-wide alley, they saw the car repair shop. The repair shop had another road for access, but it might not be marked on the navigation, so Elijah didn’t drive through it.

There was an empty space at the entrance of the repair shop where children were playing.

Out of the four repair spaces, only one had a car on it, which wasn’t being repaired.

A few repairmen with oily arms were standing at the entrance chatting, with no intention of working.

Sean was a bit surprised.

Elijah asked in a low voice:

"Boss, do we need to go in and investigate?"

"No rush, let’s observe first."

Sean decided to first familiarize himself with the environment.

At that moment, a police car came by.

Sean immediately heightened his vigilance.
