Chapter 249: Chapter 229: A Common Man’s Anger, Blood Splattered Five Steps Away!
Forsythe looked at Luke in disbelief, then lowered his head and saw the bullet hole in his chest bleeding profusely.
After the shock and surprise, he finally felt the pain – he could not accept this reality: Luke, the coward, dared to shoot him?
Luke’s ever-furrowed brow had smoothed out by now, replaced with a hideous expression and vengeful delight!
"Forsythe, does it hurt a lot?" Luke, holding his pistol, asked calmly and gently.
"Yes, yes, yes—hurry, hurry, hurry! Treat my wound! Call an ambulance! Quick!"
At this point, Luke’s wife had also reacted. She furiously rushed over and shook Luke, yelling angrily:
"Look what you’ve done! How could you dare to shoot? You’ve killed us all..."
"Killed you?" Luke said calmly on the surface, but through gritted teeth, "I’ve endured humiliation for two years, doing whatever it takes to find clues so our lives could be better, and look what you’ve been doing?"
"If you don’t love me anymore, just say it. I won’t stop you from pursuing happiness..."
Suddenly, he pointed the gun at his wife’s head:
"But you! Look what you’ve done? Out of all people, why did you choose this scumbag?"
Forsythe had an innocent look on his face: What’s wrong with me? Aren’t I a good guy?
It seemed that Luke no longer cared. He pointed the gun at Forsythe again:
"I treated you as my best friend. When I found the treasure, I insisted on giving you a share. But look what you’ve done! Look at it!"
With that, "bang" he fired another shot!
This one hit Forsythe in the lower abdomen—Sean Knight guessed that Luke had initially aimed a little lower, but his gun skills were just not very good.
But this only intensified Forsythe’s pain. He groaned and fainted.
Luke had wanted to say a few more things, but he didn’t expect Forsythe to faint so quickly. Not knowing what to say, he suddenly felt bored.
He threw the gun on Forsythe’s body, shrugged his shoulders, looked as if trying to act nonchalant, but he wasn’t this kind of person, so the movement was stiff.
In the end, Luke simply stopped pretending, sat down beside Forsythe, covered his face, and leaned his painful head on his knees. He didn’t know what to do.
Sean didn’t want his new partner to go to jail, so he turned to the lawyer:
"Is there any way to keep him out of prison?"
The lawyer was somewhat displeased:
"Boss, I have a name, you know..."
"What’s your name?"
The lawyer straightened his tie and said:
"My name is Malcolm Kingsley..."
"Alright, Malcolm, is there any way to prevent Luke from being prosecuted?"
"It’s a bit difficult, but not impossible." Malcolm stroked his chin, "It’s best if Luke’s wife gives favorable evidence for him—after all, you’re aware that it’s not a minor matter for a policeman to be shot."
"Alright, I understand." Sean nodded, then patted Luke on the shoulder, "Luke, this lawyer is supposed to be quite famous. Would you bring out some of your gold bars to pay the counsel fee and ensure you receive the lightest punishment—of course, not going to jail would be best."
Luke jerked his head up, looking at Sean in disbelief.
Sean gestured for the lawyer to come over.
Malcolm walked over, coughed lightly, and said:
"Actually, there is some wiggle room - after all, we were all present and heard the policeman say that he deliberately handed the gun to you and then asked you to shoot..."
Malcolm winked at Luke:
"You can understand this as the policeman’s request of you, understood?"
Luke could hardly believe these were the words of a lawyer.
Having been an experienced lawyer, Malcolm naturally knew what Luke was thinking and shrugged, saying:
"We don’t need to worry if this case makes logical sense, or if it adheres to people’s established basic rules; most importantly, this is the truth."
Sean nodded: That’s enough.
Of course, he also understood Malcolm’s intention to persuade Luke’s wife - the second shot was "out of the plan."
"So... how much gold is needed?"
Luke wasn’t sure if he had enough gold on hand.
Upon hearing talk of gold, Malcolm’s enthusiasm soared, and he raised his voice, saying:
"To make sure the judge believes that the policeman instructed you to shoot, we need as much gold as possible!"
Forsythe had just come to, but hearing these words, he passed out from anger!
Is that reasonable? Is that reasonable? Is that reasonable?
Not only not calling an ambulance, but now trying to exonerate the shooter?
Luke’s wife was of course to be persuaded by Luke, and Sean left the matter to the lawyer and didn’t meddle any further.
He only had to suggest it, and naturally, he couldn’t contribute any gold - although it’s hard to say since the backpack he picked up later contained twice as many gold bars. If Luke didn’t have enough, he’d chip in some.
Forsythe was clearly out to get them, so when Sean and Elijah left, they "unintentionally" forgot to call an ambulance for Forsythe.
Upon returning to the villa, Sean received a phone call from Malcolm.
"Forsythe died on the way to the hospital."
Hearing this, Sean muttered to himself, he got off easy!
"By the way, there’s one more thing." Malcolm’s voice sounded excited, "Forsythe was discharged from the police force, apparently because he reported you for suspected drug trafficking..."
