Chapter 246: Chapter 217: There’s Something Wrong with This Policeman_2
"You can divide the rest yourself."
Then, he said to Elijah Hastings and others:
"Let’s go upstairs and have a look."
After that, he led Elijah Hastings and a few others upstairs.
Luke was still excited, holding the travel bag, watching Sean Knight go up, he asked puzzled:
"Are we going up again?"
"Let’s take a look." Sean Knight explained, "This building has five floors. Let’s see if there might still be something hidden on the top two floors."
Sean Knight actually didn’t think it was very likely but held the mindset of trying on the off chance, and went up.
Without receiving instructions from Elijah Hastings, Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington didn’t feel comfortable going upstairs.
Douglas Cooper looked a bit anxious but didn’t dare to proactively ask.
Luke thought about it, put the travel bag into the toolbox, picked up the toolbox, and followed Sean Knight and others upstairs.
As for whether he was curious or didn’t trust Sean Knight’s character, it’s hard to say.
The fourth and fifth floors were selling miscellaneous items. The fourth floor had been renovated, and nothing was found. The fifth floor hadn’t changed, and it was the same decoration style as the third floor, but there was nothing on it.
Sean Knight went around and came back down.
In a place where no one was around, Luke whispered:
"Shouldn’t we use a metal detector to check?"
"No need." Sean Knight shook his head and said, "The fourth floor has been renovated already. Even if something was hidden before, it’s definitely gone now. As for the fifth floor, we can’t move anything, so we’ll have to deal with it later."
When they reached the third floor, they called Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington and left the shopping center together and got back into the car.
In the car, Luke called Forsythe and told him about the discovery of the gold bars.
"What? You guys found the gold bars? How many?" Forsythe’s voice on the phone was full of surprise, and it seemed like there were other noises as well.
Sean Knight keenly heard a woman’s panting sound.
Luke didn’t notice and excitedly said:
"Yes, we found some. I think it’s best for you to come over, and I’ll give you your share."
"Alright, I’m coming right away!" Forsythe agreed readily.
Luke hung up the phone and happily said to Sean Knight:
"Tomorrow, we’ll go to the next spot. Actually, I didn’t think the first place would have anything, but it turns out it was a pleasant surprise!..."
Before he could finish, Sean Knight clapped him on the shoulder and pointed out the window.
Luke was interrupted and a little unhappy, but when he looked outside, he was shocked!
A group of renovation workers carrying tools were walking into the shopping center!
Only then did Luke understand how timely Sean Knight’s actions were just now!
If they had actually run into them, it would’ve been hard to explain!
"Sean, more and more, I feel that choosing you as my partner was such a correct choice!"
This time, Luke really felt relieved!
After waiting for those renovation workers to enter, Sean Knight said to Luke:
"It’s getting late, and I won’t wait for Forsythe. I’ll leave first."
But Luke was unwilling and said to Sean Knight:
"This is our first collaboration among the three parties, and we found gold bars in our very first treasure hunt. You must stay here; otherwise, even if Forsythe believes me, I can’t prove myself."
Luke spoke awkwardly, but Sean Knight understood his thoughts.
He was a somewhat stubborn person.
Let him have his way then.
Sean Knight stayed with Luke and waited for Forsythe to come over.
Luke took a black bag out of his own package and put the two gold bars in, wrapping it tightly and knotting it securely.
Seeing Sean Knight watching him, he explained:
"I’ll have to give this to Forsythe later. Giving the gold bars directly would expose the information."
Sean Knight thought to himself, wouldn’t giving a black plastic bag be even more suspicious?
However, he didn’t remind Luke.
About half an hour later, Forsythe arrived near the shopping center in his broken police car. Luke quickly got out of the car and waved Forsythe over.
Sean Knight had no choice but to get out of the car as well.
Although Forsythe had guessed that the car belonged to Sean Knight this morning, he hadn’t confirmed it. Now seeing Sean Knight standing by the car, he asked jealously:
"Is this your car? Do all treasure hunters live this way?"
Sean Knight ignored him, and Luke, not wanting any conflicts between the two, quickly took the travel bag, while pulling things out and said to Forsythe:
"Forsythe, this time we found twenty gold bars! According to the contract, two of them belong to you."
After looking around and seeing that no one was paying attention to them, Sean handed the gold bars wrapped in a black plastic bag to Forsythe.
Forsythe weighed it in his hand, smiled, but then showed greed and dissatisfaction:
"My two, so you must have at least twelve?"
Luke nodded and said:
"Yes, this is according to the agreed number."
Forsythe shrugged:
"Well, I should have tried to get more for myself! I never thought gold would be so easy to find!"
Sean suddenly smelled a familiar scent.
He suddenly remembered that he had smelled this same scent at Luke’s house...
Looking at Forsythe, Sean’s face was complicated—this guy actually...
Luke didn’t notice anything and said to Forsythe:
"Tomorrow, we’ll go to the second location to search. You’ll need to clear the area then!"
Forsythe couldn’t care less and said:
"No problem! You guys just wait for my call tomorrow! I’ll clean up the courtyard and call you over. Be quick when you come!"
After finishing, he glanced at Luke and Sean, stuffed the black plastic bag into his pocket, and turned to leave.
Sean suddenly asked Luke:
"Do you smell anything familiar?"
Luke sniffed and shook his head, saying:
"No. I’ve had to go through so much old paper in the past two years researching those documents, I’ve developed a severe sinus infection and can’t smell anything now."
Sean replied with disappointment:
"Oh... Alright, I’m going to go, and we’ll be in touch tomorrow."
"Alright, I’ll send you the location tomorrow morning."
Whether out of prudence or habit, Luke didn’t tell Sean the exact location.
Sean had no problem with that, got into the car, and gestured for Elijah to drive.
After the car started, Sean said to the three of them:
"For this treasure hunt, I have already received a portion of the gold. I’ll pay you guys after it’s all over. These gold bars have numbers on them, so they can’t be sold directly and need to be processed."
"No problem."
Elijah replied, driving without turning his head. Lincoln and Douglas both agreed.
"I have no ideas either."
However, he immediately asked:
"Boss, how much money can we get from this?"
"One gold bar each."
Sean was not too concerned about money now, but he had a faint premonition that Elijah and the others might play a significant role later on. So he said, "Today, it’s one gold bar. Each of these bars weighs about 250 grams and is worth about 15,000 to 16,000 US dollars."
Thirty thousand a day! Douglas grinned, showing his happiness.
This money was so easy to earn!
Elijah drove the car back to the villa, where Kathy had already prepared dinner.
The next day, Elijah, Lincoln, and Douglas arrived at the villa early. Sean was having breakfast, and Kathy immediately welcomed them to sit down.
Not being polite, the three men ate another meal, chatted for a while, and then Luke made a phone call.
"Let’s go," Sean said after hanging up, "We’ll probably be busy today."
As usual, Elijah drove, and Sean told the three of them:
"Today, it’s still Elijah and me going in. Lincoln, you and Douglas watch the car outside. I have a feeling that Forsythe might cause trouble, so be on your guard and don’t let anyone mess with the car..."
"Understood!"
All three agreed. Sean told Elijah the location, and then closed his eyes.
Twenty minutes later, the car arrived at a standalone courtyard, where Luke was waiting beside his own car with Forsythe, who hadn’t brought a police car today.
Seeing Sean get out of the car, Forsythe showed a well-concealed smug smile on his face, then said to him:
"Sean, I’ve cleared everyone out of the courtyard. You have one day to search carefully without damaging the facilities inside."
After checking his watch, he looked up and continued:
"Alright, I have a patrol task now, so I’ll leave. Call me if there’s any problem, but please don’t disturb me if there’s not!"
Then he left.
Luke watched Forsythe’s retreating figure for a moment, then said to Sean:
"Let’s go in, and I’ll tell you about it while we walk."
