Chapter 245: Chapter 217: There’s Something Wrong with This Policeman

No matter what, Luke Paris simply couldn’t believe that Sean Knight had actually found something after just under half an hour of searching?

Without explaining, Sean said to Luke after leaving with Elijah Hastings:

"Don’t mention this to Forsythe yet. It would be better if we confirm that it’s really gold, and then notify him."

"Alright, I’ll go get the uniforms with you then." Luke thought about it and agreed with Sean’s proposal.

In fact, Sean didn’t really trust Forsythe, he sensed there was something fishy about him.

Of course, without proof, it would be difficult to outright convey his suspicions to Luke. This explanation at least sounded reasonable.

Luke was familiar with the area and guided them to a Uniform Plaza where Elijah bought five sets of clothes, five safety helmets, a telescopic ladder, and some tools, all of which were stashed in the trunk.

After changing into their uniforms in the car, they returned to the old marketplace.

Not many people milled about in the shopping center. They entered, wearing uniforms and carrying tools. It indeed attracted some attention, but nothing out of the ordinary, as there were indeed places upstairs in need of renovation.

On the third floor, Sean directed his crew to set up their tools and the ladder. He had Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington pretend to fix a few broken spots while he, Elijah, and Luke started dismantling the ceiling.

Luke had been silent all this time. He spoke up as Sean began to rip down the ceiling’s paper and wooden boards:

"Sean, where did you find it?"

Sean whispered back:

"Don’t ask, someone’s coming!"

Luke quickly shut his mouth. After about ten seconds with no one in sight, he thought that Sean was bluffing. Just about to speak again when he heard footsteps.

Then, three people came upstairs from downstairs, paused for a moment to watch them dismantle the ceiling, then continued advancing upstairs.

Once they left and the sound of footsteps receded, Sean pointed to a dismantled section of the ceiling and said:

"Above this ceiling, in the ring beam, there’s a spatial realm. I saw something up there."

As he spoke, he expanded the hole in the ceiling, reached up to grasp a ring beam, and pulled himself atop the ceiling.

Earlier, Sean had used Sky Eye and spotted an old-fashioned black travel bag filled with gold bars on top of the ring beam.

However, Sean didn’t immediately collect the bag after climbing up. He instead walked around ostentatiously to make some noise, after which he grabbed the travel bag and clung to the ring beam while descending the ladder.

"There’s really something there?" Luke’s mouth hung open wide, he didn’t realize he had swallowed some ash until he coughed and spat it out. "Where inside..."

"Wait until we get down to look at it." Sean descended the ladder while carrying the travel bag.

At this time, footsteps were heard again from upstairs. Luke casually hid the travel bag in the toolbox.

Luke had gained some experience by now, he immediately played along with Elijah, moving the ladder and letting him climb up to continue dismantling the ceiling.

After those people had left, Luke quickly crouched down in front of Sean and asked in a low voice:

"Did you open it?"

"Come, let’s see together."

It seemed that Sean had indeed struck it lucky. The gold, left untouched for over 30 years, was still lying there unnoticed!

Nobody would’ve expected that there’d be something stored on top of the ring beams – this old marketplace hadn’t been remodeled for over 30 years, it seemed!

Patting it lightly, the travel bag was covered in ash.

Clapping away the dust, Luke coughed profusely, while trying to wave away the dust.

Once Sean patted off the ash, he opened the travel bag, revealing its contents.

Seeing the golden bars, Luke completely forgot about his coughing fit!

"We truly found it..." It took a while for him to gasp with joy, grabbing a gold bar and exclaiming loudly, "We found it...I did it! The last two years...It was all worth it! Two long years..."

By the end, Luke was almost in tears.

No one knew how he had endured the past two years!

Now, all those contributions finally paid off!

Was it worth it?

Luke was not thinking about that now, he knew. He even wanted to tell his wife right away, and those who didn’t believe him, to tell them that he was not wrong!

This gold, it was proof!

Seeing the gold bars, each with a number, Sean knew that it would not be reasonably easy to sell these off.

"Luke, count it." Sean pointed to the gold bars, "It’s best to share it now. We can’t be sure whether we can find more."

Luke, roused by Sean’s words, reacted at once. He pulled out his mobile phone and declared:

"I’ll call Forsythe now, he gets a share of what’s inside!"

"No, we can’t stay here too long—you know we’re not the real deal! If we show our real selves, the true persons will be drawn here, then we’ll have real trouble!" Sean warned while covering Luke’s phone.

Luke realized his mistake and apologized:");

"Sean, it was right for me to invite you here! Without you, we can’t discover these gold bars, once I found it I might have exposed myself on account of staying here for too long..."

After thinking about it, he said:

"Let’s count them now, distribute them, and call Forsythe later."

After counting, they found exactly twenty gold bars. Sean took six bars, then handed the travel bag to Luke.
