Chapter 244: Chapter 216: This Collaboration Doesn’t Look Good! _2

"Alright, everyone’s here. Next, we’ll sign the contract, and then plan how we’ll start the treasure hunt."

Luke was a bit excited, pulling out three copies of the contract and said:

"I consulted professional help to write this agreement; you should all take a close look."

Sean Knight looked it over and found no traps—or rather, it was basically a standard cooperation template for treasure hunters, with specific contents added.

After reading it, Sean signed his name.

The policeman impatiently signed as well and said to Luke:

"We don’t need all these formalities; I trust you!"

However, Luke said: "This matter is very important, and I hope all three of us take it seriously."

He also signed all three copies and handed one to each person. After putting away his own copy, Luke took out a file folder and placed a stack of documents in front of everyone.

"These are the documents I’ve collected over the past two years, which include detailed records of that bank robbery, reports, as well as testimony from the people involved, and my follow-up investigation."

He then told Sean:

"Through Forsythe, I got some information from the police department. The police killed the robber at the time, but there was no confession, and no gold was found in the robber’s residence. A search was conducted in the surrounding area, but nothing was found."

Luke pulled out a map and circled an area with a pen, saying:

"The shootout between the robbers and the police took place right here. According to my two-year investigation, the robbers stopped in three places after leaving the bank. These three places will be our focus for the treasure hunt."

Sean nodded. He noticed that all three locations were in New York City, so they weren’t too far off.

"Do people live in these three places?" Sean suddenly asked, "How do we search inside other people’s homes?"

Luke pointed at Forsythe and said:

"That’s his job."

Forsythe proudly puffed out his chest and was about to speak when the lady of the house came out again, bringing Luke a cup of coffee. Forsythe deliberately spoke loudly:

"With me around, I’ll definitely give you guys enough time to treasure hunt! You have no reason to worry!"

His gaze lingered on the woman, but Luke didn’t notice anything and instead excitedly said to Sean:

"If there are no problems, we can go to the first location this afternoon to start our treasure hunt. Do you need to prepare anything, like a metal detector or something?"

"I have everything in my car," Sean replied. "As long as we can get inside, I’m ready to find that gold anytime!"

The woman host looked at Sean with curiosity, her gaze met the police officer’s for a moment before she hurriedly ducked back into the kitchen.

"That’s great!" Luke clapped his hands. "Let’s have lunch here, and then we’ll head out together in the afternoon. I can’t wait to see what’s at that spot!"

"We won’t eat here." Sean refrained from asking for the specific address of the first location. "I still have to buy some small parts. Just send me the location when you’re ready to head out, and I’ll meet you there."

Luke hesitated for a moment, glanced at the kitchen, and nodded in agreement.

Yet, policeman Forsythe rudely said:

"Well, I’ll stay for lunch."

He even walked straight into the kitchen, saying as he did:

"I want to see what delicious food your wife Laura has made today."

Sean found it a little odd but didn’t say much, leaving with Elijah Hastings.

"That policeman and Luke’s wife..." Elijah whispered.

"We don’t need to worry about that; we just need to stay alert and do our own thing."

Sean wasn’t a moralist, and it was clear that Forsythe was a local bully cop; there was no need to provoke him.

However, Sean had a nagging feeling that, although Forsythe appeared rude on the surface, when compared to the naïve Luke, he was already incredibly cunning!

Be careful not to be deceived!

Back in the car, Douglas Cooper said:

"Boss, just after you guys went in, a policeman came over to question us. He was fierce! Fortunately, our documents were in order, and he seemed to have something to do, so he didn’t give us any trouble."

Sean and Elijah exchanged glances, that policeman was obviously Forsythe.

"By the way, a few hoodlums tried to come over and cause trouble, but we taught them a lesson and let them go."

This place is a mess!

"Later, we’ll buy some stuff and then eat. We’ll start working in the afternoon, and you two will stay in the car, keeping your guard up..."

Hearing that they’d still be in the car, Douglas seemed unwilling.

"Since you both met with that policeman, it would be awkward for you to be around. Besides, there’s something off about him. You guys are our backup plan, so you must stay alert..."

Upon hearing it was a back route, Douglas Cooper’s expression became serious.

As long as it’s not a burden!

Sean Knight took four people to buy some parts, then went for a meal, and all that was left was to wait for Luke’s phone call.

Luke should be in a hurry too. Sean had not waited in the car for half an hour when Luke called and told him the specific location.

Upon arriving at the location, Sean found it to be an old-style residential building with a shopping center, pharmacy, and such nearby.

Luke and Forsythe had already arrived, and as Sean and Elijah Hastings got out of the car, Luke stood by the road and said to Sean:

"The information I found is that at the time they left the bank, they drove the car into the parking lot of this mall. Then one of them went to the pharmacy to buy some medicine. There were no surveillance cameras at that time, so it’s not certain if they went somewhere else after parking."

Sean was speechless, wasn’t this range a bit too large?

If the gold was really hidden here, someone might have picked it up!

"That batch of gold has never appeared. Of course, it could have been taken away, but the probability is too low. I’ve checked countless people in the past two years, and this possibility has basically been ruled out."

Seeing the confident look on Luke’s face, Sean chose to believe him for the time being.

Since they were already here, they might as well take a look.

"Let’s go in," Sean said to Elijah.

"The pharmacy has been renovated, so there’s no need to look there. The shopping center and the basement are still the same as before. You guys are treasure hunters, I don’t think you need to clear out the people inside, right?" Luke looked at Forsythe, who hadn’t moved, and said to Sean.

"We don’t need to."

As they walked into the shopping center, Sean found that it was already semi-abandoned.

The mall was not large. The first floor was filled with clothes, but even by Sean’s standards, these clothes were old-fashioned and low-end.

There were few onlookers and even fewer buyers.

Sean looked around and saw nothing, so he proceeded to the second floor.

Outside, Forsythe watched Sean and Elijah disappear through the glass door, then turned to Luke and said,

"Do you think these two will find the gold?"

Luke hesitated before saying,

"They are quite professional."

Forsythe looked up at the five-story shopping center and said, "You wait here, then. I have something else to take care of. Call me if anything happens!"

With that said, he drove off in his police car.

Luke watched the police car leave, clenched his fist, and eventually relaxed.

There was nothing of value on the second floor either, and Sean and Elijah had already reached the third floor.

The third floor had been cleared out, and now the ground was covered with only some trash that had not yet been cleared away.

Elijah glanced around for a moment, then looked at Sean.

As usual, Sean activated Sky Eye and looked around, then lifted his gaze to the ceiling above.

Originally, the ceiling was closed but now it was torn apart, revealing the wiring gutters and concrete ring beams used in the original construction.

At that moment, Luke came up and asked Sean as he was observing,

"What’s your finding?"

Sean was about to shake his head when suddenly his eyes lit up:

"We found something!"

Luke was taken aback!

How could they find something just as he arrived?

That seemed unlikely, right?

Sean glanced around and said to Luke,

"We’re not sure yet, but there’s indeed a possibility of something hidden here. Our current clothes are not right and might raise suspicion. It’s better if we change into maintenance worker uniforms."

Luke immediately said,

"Yes, yes! You make a lot of sense! Let’s go and get ready now!"

He was already getting excited!
