Chapter 243: Chapter 216: This Collaboration Doesn’t Look Good!

The second day, Luke called early to meet with Sean Knight.

Sean didn’t expect that, once the matter was settled, Luke would treat him like family and invited him directly to his home.

Luke’s home was on the other side of New York City. When Sean drove there, he found it was an apartment building. There were some mischievous children playing nearby, and occasionally a ball would hit a wall or a door, with no one to stop them.

Some of the walls on the side of the buildings had strange graffiti, vagrants staggered past, ignoring them.

A few people were whispering in the wall corner, occasionally casting glances at their surroundings.

Many more people outside were watching Sean’s big black SUV with wary or hostile eyes.

This was not a safe neighborhood.

Sean suddenly understood why Luke was so anxious yesterday and why he couldn’t finish his sentences.

"Lincoln, you and Douglas stay in the car. Act as needed," Sean instructed, "Elijah, you come with me."

Elijah responded and followed Sean down.

Sean had gotten green cards and gun licenses for the three of them.

Now, all three had licenses and guns.

The big black SUV was obviously not cheap, and Sean had already seen malicious intent in some people’s eyes.

Douglas and Lincoln came out and watched their surroundings cautiously.

Sean brought Elijah to Luke’s apartment and reached the entrance.

Before he knocked on the door, he heard a woman’s scream inside:

"Look what you’ve done, Luke! I beg you, please stop. Stop looking for treasure—haven’t you had enough? I just want a peaceful life... "

"Ellen, trust me this time, will you? I’m really close to finding the treasure!

Look at the documents I’ve found in the past two years, I’ve narrowed down the area! Trust me, with a professional Treasure Hunter, we can become billionaires right away!

We can immediately buy a big house, transfer Zack to a better school, I can get a better car, and you can have beautiful clothes... Trust me, Ellen, one last time, okay?"

The woman didn’t say anything, just some faint sobbing.

Sean felt awkward; should he knock at this time?

As he hesitated, someone came up behind him.

Hearing footsteps, Sean turned and saw a large, tall policeman.

"Are you the partner Luke found? I heard you have good luck. Why haven’t you gone in yet?" The policeman asked bluntly.

Sean guessed that this must be the person Luke said had helped him before, and said:

"So, you’re the other partner? I just got here and haven’t had a chance to knock."

"Alright, alright, so many things to do!" The policeman muttered, squeezed past Sean, knocked on the door loudly, and shouted:

"Luke, I’m here! Oh, and the Chinese guy is here too!"

Sean could tell that this policeman didn’t like him very much.

However, he wasn’t planning on making friends with him either, so it didn’t matter.

Luke rushed inside and said:

"Come in, come in!"

The door opened, and Luke let the three of them in, looking somewhat surprised to see Elijah.

"My assistant," Sean said, "We work together better on such matters."

"Okay." Luke didn’t raise any objections, as he could guess that Sean didn’t need him to pay extra.

The policeman grumbled, "What kind of Treasure Hunter is so good, he needs an assistant—weren’t they supposed to be lone wolves?"

Sean ignored his words and looked around the room.

It was small and old, the furniture was also old-fashioned.

It was evident that the woman of the house took good care of the place, which was clean and well-organized.

But poverty was inescapable.

The floor paint was worn, and the dining table was obviously well-used, possibly second-hand.

A boy holding a dinosaur toy came over and said to Luke:

"Daddy, can you fix my Dinosaur Bali?"

Luke squatted down and said to the boy:

"Zack, Daddy has something important to do. Can I fix it for you later?"

The boy didn’t say anything, and didn’t leave.

Elijah stepped forward and said:

"Come, let Uncle fix it for you."

The policeman spoke roughly:

"Kid! You’d better go to your room, we have important matters to discuss! If you interrupt us, I’ll arrest you!"

The boy’s lips puckered, about to cry, but Luke hurriedly said:

"Forsythe, don’t scare Zack. He’s timid."

The policeman laughed loudly.

At this time, a woman in the kitchen came out with coffee, looking surprised to see an extra person, but she brought three cups and handed one to the policeman, Sean, and Elijah. As she walked back, she whispered to the boy:

"Zack, go play in your room. Daddy has something to do."

By now, Elijah had fixed the dinosaur head, and Zack smiled and said to Elijah:

"Thank you!"

Then he stuck his tongue out at the policeman and ran into his room.

Forsythe, the policeman, got angry and raised his baton to scare the boy, but Sean said indifferently:

"Policemen shouldn’t scare children."

Forsythe snorted, put down his baton, and shifted his gaze. He followed the woman with his eyes until she went back to the kitchen.

Sean sensed that Forsythe’s relationship with Luke’s family was somewhat subtle.
