Chapter 238: Chapter 213: Dare to Gamble? _2
It was clear that the previous owner took great care of this yacht.
Jason opened the file bag and flipped through it, saying:
"This yacht was built two years ago, and at that time the price was 150,600 dollars,..."
Jason finished looking at the documents, put them into the bag, and handed it to Sean, then checked various equipment.
"Hmm, all functions are intact, and if there are no problems testing it in the water, this yacht can be sold for at least 100,000 dollars."
Jason concluded.
Looking at Jason’s expression, Sean suddenly asked:
"Are you interested in this yacht?"
With his thoughts exposed, Jason felt somewhat embarrassed and said:
"Yes, if I can test it in the water and it turns out to be good, I’m planning to buy it."
Sean shook his head and didn’t continue on the topic, but instead pointed to the fishing equipment on display and said:
"Do you know the value of these items?"
Jason glanced at them and said:
"Yes, they’re all sea fishing equipment from name-brand manufacturers. Even though they’re secondhand, their prices aren’t bad."
"Alright then, how about a bet?" Sean pointed at the yacht and the fishing equipment and said:
"All together, 120,000 dollars."
Jason was overjoyed and immediately responded:
"If I can test it in the water and the yacht is good..."
"I don’t have time to go and test it." Sean shook his head, "The fishing equipment is definitely worth more than 20,000 dollars. You should be able to see that many of them are still in their unopened packaging. As for the yacht... it all depends on whether or not you’re willing to bet on it!"
Jason was immediately tempted.
When he said that the yacht was worth 100,000 dollars earlier, he had naturally lowballed its value.
If it truly was good, selling it through his own channels would bring in at least 120,000 dollars.
As Sean said, the fishing equipment was indeed worth more than 20,000 dollars!
But was the yacht really good?
Jason hesitated.
Sean held Joanna’s hand as they walked off the yacht, saying as they went:
"You have three minutes to consider. If you’re not willing, I’ll forget it. I’ll contact my sources."
At New York Harbor, there were plenty of buyers for this type of yacht and equipment, with lots of people hoping to buy an affordable yacht to go offshore.
Rental companies also hoped to obtain affordable yachts to rent out, so channels were readily available.
Sean didn’t want the extra hassle, and selling it to Jason would be alright. They could avoid involving two parties.
When Sean and Joanna walked out of the container, Jason came after them, having gathered courage and made a decision:
"Mr. Knight, I’ll buy it, 120,000 dollars. I’ll make the payment now!"
Sean raised his eyebrows in surprise, discovering that Jason was quite the big spender.
Jason paid, then called a truck to haul the yacht and fishing equipment away.
Sean left Little Black to help, and then took Joanna and left.
Elijah and Lincoln followed them from afar.
Before the two reached Jason’s Freight Yard, three Latino Americans stopped them in their tracks.
"Hey!" The lead man waved a butterfly knife and shouted at Sean, "Yellow monkey, lend me some money!"
Sean laughed. These guys either had no information channels or belonged to two different gangs.
Seeing Sean’s laughter, the leader became angry and said loudly:
"Haven’t you heard the legend of Wolf Clan Jack? I need to teach you a lesson so you remember how powerful Wolf Clan Jack is..."
Then he fell down.
As soon as Elijah and Lincoln found out that Sean and Joanna were being stopped, they immediately went around the container and ended up right behind them, swiftly taking down the three hoodlums.
What they learned was the art of killing, the kind that defeats the enemy in one move.
Luckily, both of them knew their limits and didn’t cause death, but minor aftereffects were inevitable.
Sean, dragging Joanna, walked away leisurely, while Elijah and Lincoln dragged the three unconscious men to a secluded spot, covering their tracks.
"They are really good!" Joanna said softly to Sean, "Are they Kung Fu masters?"
Sean heard Joanna say the rather formal word "Kung Fu" and smiled, "Yes."
Well, let the misunderstanding be.
After all, some of the combat techniques used in the military actually come from ancient martial arts, which is correct.
After a day of fun, Sean sent Joanna back and saw that it was getting dark, so he called Howard Richardson in the domestic area.
"Howard, help me find someone—preferably through your Uncle Melvin."
"What kind of person?" Howard had just gotten up and took the phone call from Sean, knowing that it was something important, so he didn’t joke around and asked directly.
"I have an ancient book here that needs to be restored, and I want to find an expert from the domestic area."
"You have to come back, right?" Howard asked doubtfully, "Those experts and professors won’t fawn over you and run to the Americans. As long as they are experts in this field, can they lack work? They won’t miss you at all."
"Don’t rush, wait for me to send the stuff over, and then have your Uncle Melvin check it out, or let your Uncle Melvin find an expert to check it out. If the other party is willing to come, I will cover all the expenses, how about that?"
Sean could return, but he was too lazy to run around.
Mainly, he had concerns, fearing that after finding an expert to restore it, the expert would then use some excuse to hand it over or something. In that case, Sean would regret it to death.
But if it’s in the American side, it’s easier to talk about.
Sean thought that this "Yongle Encyclopedia", although missing a few pieces, as soon as this cover was taken out, any expert in this field could recognize it at a glance.
For this kind of expert, the "Yongle Encyclopedia" should still be very attractive, right?
That’s what Sean was thinking on his end. He took photos and videos of these two pieces in his hands and sent them to Howard Richardson.
Knowing the importance of this matter, Howard specially went to Melvin Richardson to explain Sean’s intentions.
"That must be a good thing!" Melvin immediately guessed Sean’s idea, "Show me the photos and videos."
As Howard sent them over, he said:
"From this, it’s impossible to tell what it is."
After finishing the photos and videos, Melvin suddenly laughed:
"Can’t figure it out? You have a shallow understanding in horse racing! If this thing was really put out there, it would be true that there would be experts going there—even those who don’t need money!"
"Really?!" Howard picked up the phone and enlarged the photos, looking left and right, but he couldn’t see anything special in the end.
"Forget it, you’re not in this line, don’t worry about it. I’ll go out for a while. It’s rare for Sean to ask me for help, this time I have to do my best."
Melvin put on his clothes and upsetly went out, Howard felt puzzled and grumbled at Sean:
"What’s wrong with that guy? Why is he being so mysterious and not telling what it is... Can saying one more word kill him?"
But Sean was playing coy, and Howard wasn’t going to let Sean have his way, so he simply didn’t ask any more.
Melvin came to an old courtyard, knocked on the door, waited for the nanny to open the door and went in. The inside man wearing glasses saw Melvin and was a bit surprised:
"Mr. Melvin, how come you’re here? I remember you rarely go out."
"It’s important business." Melvin said with a smile, "This matter can only be done by you, Mr. Reynolds."
"What’s the matter?" Mr. Reynolds, a sixty-something man, put down his magnifying glass and asked, "I have no time. An old gentleman in Hang City with a collection of bookshelves passed down from his ancestors has entrusted me to help restore his family’s collection of ancient books. I’ll be busy for at least a few years."
"Don’t refuse now, just wait and see." Melvin smiled and took out his mobile phone.
Mr. Reynolds also leaned in and said as he watched:
"Let me see... I still have to say the same thing after watching. If it’s really impossible, I’ll ask my students to help you... What’s this?"
Mr. Reynolds saw the photos on Melvin’s phone and changed his serious face after just scanning them. He then snatched the phone, enlarged the images, and looked at them carefully.
"Where did you find this?" Mr. Reynolds’s face was stern, "There is not a single piece of cover like this in the domestic or foreign collections! Could it be... a new one has appeared?"
Melvin smiled and said:
"Well, how do you feel? Isn’t it a pity?"
"Of course!" Mr. Reynolds pointed to the part of the photo that had been erased and said, "This is the most important part, just like a person’s eyes—can it be done without this?"
"Well, then you see..." Melvin deliberately trailed off.
"Where is the person? Send them here, even if I have to squeeze out time, I must get this done!"
"The person is abroad and cannot come back." Melvin said in one sentence.
Mr. Reynolds was immediately stuck.
Is he going abroad?
