Chapter 231: Chapter 210: Truly, one thing overcomes another!
"What should we do?" By this point, Hans had already come to rely on Sean Knight as the backbone of the group.
Sean thought for a moment and said:
"Let’s cross the river! You all can swim, right?"
Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington both nodded simultaneously.
Hans looked at the twenty-plus meter wide tributary, hesitating:
"The river is not wide, but... it might be quite deep, and my swimming skills are not very good."
Mila also whispered:
"My skills aren’t great either."
"Cut down tree branches!" This time it was Elijah who made the decision, "Lincoln and I will pull you across the river!"
They cut down several arm-thick tree branches, and Sean took out a rope to tie them together. They turned this makeshift raft, providing buoyancy but also something for Elijah and Lincoln to pull.
Hans and Mila weren’t entirely unable to swim; they could splash around while holding onto the raft, as long as they didn’t fall off.
Sean’s swimming ability was not bad, but he didn’t consider himself better than the other two. Being able to take care of himself was enough.
Chopping down the branches took some effort, and the ants were catching up!
"Get in the water!" Sean yelled, and the others immediately lifted the raft and got in the water.
The spot they chose was several tens of meters away from the fork. Although the current here was not as fast as at the fork, it was not slow either.
However, they didn’t have the time to choose a better place further up.
The water was chest-deep from the beginning, and going further would be at least two meters deep. The middle part could be three to four meters deep. Sean scanned with his Sky Eye, but didn’t find anything dangerous lurking underneath, so he urged everyone to swim faster.
However, just as they swam to the middle, the water upstream started churning. Sean saw a crocodile emerge from somewhere and bite at swimming Hans!
"Watch out!"
Sean pulled an iron shovel from his backpack and swung it underwater at the crocodile!
The shovel hit the crocodile, but it was blocked by its thick skin, angering the crocodile instead. It turned its body and charged at Sean!
Sean dodged in panic, but he was not as agile underwater as on land. He barely avoided the crocodile’s bite, but his clothes were torn!
"Swim fast!" Elijah and Lincoln wanted to come and help, but Sean yelled at them.
Only when they reached the shore would they truly escape danger.
This crocodile was only two meters long, so the threat wasn’t too significant.
Sean knew the shovel was useless, so he put it away. Then an idea flashed through his mind, and he thought of the black dagger. He immediately took it out from the spatial realm!
At this moment, the crocodile had already readjusted its direction underwater and was charging at Sean again!
Sean clenched his teeth and endured, waiting until the crocodile was about to bite him before dodging slightly. Then, he stabbed the short sword directly into the crocodile’s eye!
Like cutting through tofu, the short sword completely pierced into its eye!
Sean pulled out the sword, and the crocodile still hadn’t died immediately. However, it knew better than to mess with him and swam slowly towards the shore, tail swishing.
Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief, quickened their pace, and soon reached the opposite bank.
Once on shore, they felt safe at last.
"Look!" Elijah said solemnly, pointing at the other side.
Everybody looked over and was surprised to find that the crocodile had already been on the shore, motionless.
It was obviously dead by now.
At that moment, the ant colony had also reached the shore. They found the "delicious" dead crocodile and immediately swarmed it!
In less than eight minutes, a crocodile weighing several tens of kilograms was reduced to a skeleton!
The skeleton shrank rapidly!
A minute later, the skeleton disappeared!
Even the bloodstained soil and grass were gone as if the crocodile had never existed.
If they had been surrounded by the ant colony...
Everyone could imagine the consequences!
Just then, Mila screamed:
"They crossed the river! The ants crossed the river!"
They were amazed to find out that some of the ants had figured out how to use tree leaves!
An ant dragged a leaf to climb on, then other ants grabbed the leaf and threw it into the river.
However, there were too many ants on the leaf, and it was quickly overturned by the waves, with the ants falling into the water.
Although they didn’t sink, ants couldn’t swim either, which was somewhat reassuring for everyone.
But not long after, the ants once again changed their tactics!
On the other side of the river, groups of ants the size of footballs quickly formed and rushed into the water!
They clung tightly together, and although the river occasionally washed away some ants from the periphery, there weren’t many!
The ant balls tumbled and rolled, not very fast, but they were heading for the other side!
However, they were too light, and the river quickly swept them into the middle, where the larger current swallowed them up.
The situation Sean had anticipated occurred!
Next, the ants formed even larger groups, the size of an adult hugging!
"Let’s go, we must hurry!" Sean knew they couldn’t wait any longer and immediately urged everyone to move on.
"Where do we go?" Hans had already lost hope, "They will quickly figure out how to cross the river and keep chasing us... I don’t want to keep going, I’m too tired..."
"Let’s go!" said Sean after thinking a bit. "We’ll continue along the river for a while, and as long as we find a large enough fallen tree, we can make a raft and cross the Great River. There’s no way those ants could cross it."
The others’ eyes lit up!
"Yes! As long as we can cross this Great River, even if those ants are more powerful, they can’t possibly reach us, right?"
Elijah confidently said, "Don’t worry, we’ve never been scared of 50 kilometers of armed swimming. This river is only one or two hundred meters wide, no problem!"
