Chapter 228: Chapter 208: Mayan Descendants and Rechargeable Gemstones_2
Sean Knight could understand Hans’s discomfort.
After all, these people had witnessed those things first hand, and they basically confirmed that they owned them.
After all the hardships in finding the treasure, it had barely gotten into their hands before it was lost again, and that feeling was truly unbearable.
Sean took out his small backpack and said to Hans:
"This is the gold and gemstones I took yesterday. Now let’s divide it."
"No, no," although Hans looked at those things, he shook his head in refusal:
"That belongs to you, I cannot accept."
Sean, however, insisted:
"No, it belongs to all of us. We made an agreement at the beginning that I get 30% share, didn’t we?"
Hans hesitated.
Sean continued:
"However, I think the distribution should be re-determined—"
Hans looked at Sean.
Sean nodded towards Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington:
"Whether we go back or head to another ruin, we will need their help. So among these things, I suggest you take 10% from your share and give it to them... "
Sean’s words could be seen as overstepping, but Hans laughed, very pleased:
"That’s fine, no problem! They saved me and Mila, they deserve it! No, not 10%, but 10% for each person! And you and I each get 40%!"
With this arrangement, Sean and Hans had equal shares.
Mila was beside them and had no objections.
Her life was saved by Lincoln, and at this moment, she wasn’t really thinking about the treasures.
As Sean was about to distribute the contents of the backpack, Hans waved his hand and said:
"Sean, I trust you. It’s best to keep everything with you. If we divide it now, it may not be evenly distributed, and if there is any emergency, I’m afraid my share will be lost again - at most, you can charge some extra for storage later."
The last sentence was obviously a joke. However, since he said so, Sean obliged and collected the backpack.
After breakfast, Sean and Hans studied the map and announced that they would go to another relic site.
At the same time, Hans announced that Elijah and Lincoln would receive a share of the treasure they had found so far, which excited Elijah and Lincoln.
However, that was it.
Hans was somewhat disappointed.
He probably calculated that even if they only got 10%, that would still be hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Why didn’t these two people seem excited?
He revealed the news in advance, not without the intention to win over Elijah and Lincoln.
However, the two remained unmoved. How could he not feel disappointed?
This made Hans even more curious about Sean’s relationship with the two men.
On the surface, he was their boss, but were there other private relationships as well?
The group changed course towards the east, and according to Hans, about several dozens to hundreds of kilometers in that direction, there was another Maya City Ruin site. He found some copper products when he passed by there while searching for a relic once.
Although not gold and silver, there were many collectors in New York who liked such Mayan cultural relics and they were easy to sell.
Several hundred kilometers through the jungle was not a short distance, but there were no shortcuts to take.
Almost all the supplies in the backpack were consumed. Sean couldn’t just take food out of his spatial realm - that would give away too much.
Fortunately, Elijah and Lincoln, along with Septimius Coleman, were quite skilled at hunting for food in the jungle, so no one went hungry.
Sean constantly felt an intermittent sensation of being watched or spied upon, but nothing happened during his night watch.
Sean wondered if he was just being overly sensitive.
Fortunately, the journey was quite peaceful. They did not encounter any man-eating flowers, swarms of leeches, or snakes again.
Now and then, any lone creatures they encountered basically became food for them.
However, along the way, their bodies and minds were extremely tired, and they hardly took care of themselves, resembling the local tribal residents.
Half a month later, they finally found the ruins.
However, the scale of these ruins was smaller than the previous site they nearly slept to death in, so from the periphery of the ruins, they couldn’t help feeling disappointed.
As it was getting late, Sean suggested:
"Let’s camp outside and rest first, and when the day breaks tomorrow, we can go in and search, how about that?"
No one else had any objections.
After all, their previous encounter in the ruins left them feeling uneasy, and they couldn’t risk their lives.
"Stay alert tonight," Sean Knight told Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington.
"Don’t worry, boss." Both of them were confident.
Sean nodded his head and went into his tent.
Once inside, he took out the gemstone and the Crystal Skull.
Today, the energy inside the Crystal Skull had finally filled up.
Sean planned to charge the gemstone to see if he could fill it with energy and then sense the information inside.
After a full hour of charging, the gemstone eventually lit up again - it was indeed full!
Sean happily put away the Crystal Skull, then placed the gemstone on his forehead’s Sky Eye spot and closed his eyes.
A flood of information poured into his brain!
This area of the Maya People evolved from the earliest tribal groups to villages and cities, and eventually to various developments.
History swirled in Sean’s mind like a film, and the priest’s inheritance not only included the previous pyramid with treasures, but also the city ruins where they were currently located!
Now Sean also knew why they had nearly dozed off to death in the previous ruins - it was because a plant similar to flos daturae was blooming there.
These plants, when flowering at night, would emit an anesthetic gas, and their buds would close during the daytime. The original Maya People planted these in their homes to treat insomnia.
However, after the city was abandoned, these plants grew unrestrained, thus covering the entire city ruins with that kind of gas.
The gemstone also explained how to raise the sacrificial pyramid - a very complicated procedure that required human sacrifices. Sean didn’t plan to try it out, not knowing if it was true or false.
There was a vast amount of information in the gemstone, and Sean consciously searched for anything related to the nearby area, then came across the information on the current small city ruins.
When the city was once governed by a priest who looked like Sean, the layout of the city was very clear to the priest.
Later, the city was abandoned due to plague - it was regarded as a cursed land, so even though there were treasures left by those who died from the plague, nobody went in to search for them.
Until the Maya People became extinct.
Sean noted down the city ruins’ layout and then put away the gemstone and Crystal Skull to sleep deeply.
The amount of information transferred in his mind was too much, causing his brain to feel groggy, and it took a while to feel better.
This made him get up late the second day, only when Elijah had cooked breakfast and called for him.
Septimius Coleman brought some fruits to Sean’s tent again.
He already knew that Sean didn’t like him kneeling and worshipping, so he respectfully offered the food and blessings.
Sean also understood through Mila Ward that Septimius regarded him as that priest - not only because they looked alike, but also because Sean helped them survive. In Septimius’s eyes, that was a miracle.
Sean explained that he wasn’t a priest.
But when Septimius listened, he just smiled, maintaining his respectful attitude.
Hans Hunter later joked:
"You might as well accept it. That way, we can have fresh fruits to eat every day."
Sean didn’t have words.
Unable to refuse, Sean just let it be.
After breakfast, Sean and the others entered the ruins and left the tents at their original place, guarded by Septimius - He insisted he wouldn’t go in.
Sean suspected if Septimius had Maya-heritage ancestors who remembered the city ruins’ plague, which is why he was afraid to go in.
After they entered, it was clear that some places had been excavated before.
Sean pointed to the ruins and said:
"This site is only a few kilometers in radius. We should split up to search."
Hans nodded and said:
"Alright. I’ll stay nearby and call out if anything happens."
Although the ruins weren’t large and the view was better than in the jungle, they could still hear one another if someone shouted.
However, Sean still asked Elijah and Lincoln to search near Hans and protect him on the side.
Sean himself headed further inside.
Elijah and Lincoln were worried, but Sean waved his hand to signal that it was fine.
He already had a target in mind.
