Chapter 227: Chapter 208: Mayan Descendants and Rechargeable Gemstones

Re-entering the tent, Sean Knight lay in his sleeping bag, but simply couldn’t fall asleep.

The scenes from his previous dream seemed to have actually occurred to him. Moreover, Sean even now understood why the pyramid on the high terrace had sunk underground!

The cause was twofold - Jason had triggered a mechanism on his side, and Sean had taken away something that he shouldn’t have.

Jason’s triggering of the mechanism would only cause the sand above the underground hall to fill up the hall and the corridor. After a while, the sand would leak out, and the hall and corridor would return to their normal state.

However, the seemingly unremarkable gem that Sean took was the key to the entire hall sinking underground - that gem contained the heritage of the Maya civilization, just like the Thirteen Crystal Skulls!

Moreover, as long as one truly obtained the inheritance from that gem, they could bring the sacrificial hall underground back up.

This was mightily impressive!

It was equivalent to obtaining the heritage of the Maya civilization!

Sean took out that gem from his backpack, suddenly feeling a sense of familiarity with it - wasn’t this the sapphire embedded on the top of the priest’s staff in the "Water Curtain Movie"?

The gem was light blue and about half the size of a fist. Its surface was not polished very smooth and it even felt prickly in the hand - this was also why Sean found it unremarkable.

After all, compared to a rough gemstone, this gem looked as though it had only been slightly polished, almost a semi-finished product!

However, holding the gem now, Sean felt nothing except a slight coolness.

Even sticking it on his forehead resulted in no sensation at all.

Could it be that its ancient information had entirely vanished?

Sean tried several methods, even dripping blood on the gem, but to no avail.

Was his dream fake?

It seemed so clear, and this gem was identical to the one in his dream!

Sean was confused.

Just as he was pondering, deep in the jungle, a dark figure climbed to the top of the tall tree, peering through the branches in their direction.

It was the one who had shot Elijah Hastings with a blowgun.

Elijah’s gunfire did not injure him, but only scared him away.

This was a tribal resident, albeit substantially shorter. He held a blowgun in his hand, carried a short spear on his back, and his face portrayed a complex expression.

He wanted to approach them again, but didn’t dare to advance. He was not sure if these people were the ones he was looking for.

After a long while, the figure climbed down the tree, turned around and disappeared into the jungle.

Back at Sean’s location, he thought of the last method.

He took out the Crystal Skull, thinking that maybe the skull could provide some energy to the gem?

After all, Sean felt that the gem’s lack of response could be due to a lack of energy!

Sure, his idea might seem far-fetched, but why not give it a go during this downtime?

He had just moved the Crystal Skull closer to the gem when the gem suddenly started to glow!

Was it "charging"?

Sean became excited. Even though the gem only glowed for a moment before darkening again, he could sense that something was different about the gem!

However, the energy in the Crystal Skull wasn’t enough. After a while, Sean’s Sky Eye ability detected that the energy in the Crystal Skull had been fully transmitted, but the gem seemed to be a bottomless pit, not even halfway there!

He picked up the gem again and held it to the spot of his Sky Eye. He could sense a change in the gem, but still, no information was transmitted.

Apparently, it was short of energy.

That was really frustrating.

Fortunately, Sean noticed that the absorption speed of the Crystal Skull outside was much faster than that in New York - at least three to five times faster.

Maybe it would absorb enough energy before they left the jungle!

Even if he got the information from the gem, Sean didn’t plan to raise the main hall back up in a short time.

There was no need.

After all, he had already taken the biggest treasure away.

Putting the Crystal Skull in another backpack, Sean finally relaxed and fell into a deep sleep.

Early the next morning, the crisp birdcalls woke Sean up.

The dawn had broken, and Sean heard the low murmur of Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington outside.

He got up, packed up his sleeping bag, came out and took down his tent. He saw that Elijah was already starting to prepare breakfast.

"Boss, how did you sleep?" Elijah asked while stirring the meat porridge.

"Pretty good," Sean replied while packing his tent. "There hasn’t been any more attacks since yesterday, right?"

"No," Lincoln shook his head. "We haven’t noticed any suspicious activity."

Septimius Coleman came out of the jungle, holding a bunch of fruit.

Seeing Sean, he ran over, fell to his knees and started to bow before him. Sean quickly sidestepped, asking him to stand up.

Septimius chuckled, then offered the fresh fruit to Sean. He also picked one for himself and began to peel it, showing Sean how to eat it.

Following Septimius’s example, Sean also ate one, finding it sweet and not cloying. He smiled and suggested to Elijah and Lincoln:

"Come on, you guys should try it too!"

At this moment, Hans Hunter and Mila Ward had also woken up.

Sean walked over to Hans, helping him pack his things as he spoke:

"Mr. Hunter, we probably wouldn’t be able to excavate that lake for a while. What’s our next move?"

Hans’s expression was quite complicated; ultimately, he sighed and said:

"Let’s head to another ruined site. We’ll see about this location later. I’ve been to another site where the people seemed to have left in a hurry. There should be some good finds there."

He was indeed reluctant, but there was nothing he could do.

Considering the deep lake, it wouldn’t matter how many more people they had - they couldn’t extract the treasure from there.
