Chapter 224: Chapter 206: Crisis Upon Crisis!_2
Jason had long been tired of this line of work, but didn’t have enough money to ensure a comfortable life in his later years.
When Hans approached him, he couldn’t help but have other thoughts.
However, nothing could be said at the moment.
Jason wasn’t stupid, so he entered the corridor, walking cautiously, his stick in hand constantly probing the path, and soon discovered a trapdoor.
"It turns out there’s nothing difficult about this!" Jason said proudly.
Meanwhile, after searching for more than ten minutes, Sean "finally" found the mechanism on a stone brick. He gently removed the brick, revealing a copper nail underneath. He pressed it down, and the stone wall lowered with a "rumble," revealing a passage behind it.
Another corridor!
Sean continued to take the lead, treading carefully this time, though there were no issues along the way.
About twenty meters in, there was a doorway with a dark door covered in strange patterns.
Again, they saw that peculiar figure with a wedge in its forehead.
Sean approached and pushed the stone door, to which Elijah whispered:
"Boss, be careful!"
Sean turned and smiled, saying:
"There should be no problem, we are almost there."
Then, he pushed the door with all his might.
The door swung open!
Suddenly, the interior lit up!
Sean looked inside and saw a large hall with eight totem pillars on either side. The patterns on these pillars were no longer the ones on the door, but rather, various images of bizarre creatures.
There were some sand particles on the floor of the hall, their origin unknown.
On the walls on both sides of the hall, there were some inlaid basin-shaped objects. Perhaps it was because of the air that had entered, the elements inside ignited and produced flames, lighting up the hall.
This wasn’t hard to understand. After all, there are many low ignition point substances in nature.
At the other end of the hall, there were stairs leading upwards. At the top of the stairs, on a raised platform, there was a golden throne. On the throne sat a gigantic golden statue - the same bizarre figure with a wedge on its forehead as the one on the door!
All around the throne, there were various sacrificial items, gold, gemstones, skeletal human remains, and weapons made of gold and silver, and so on!
However, there were quite a few skeletons in front of the statue, and each had a different shape.
Were these used for sacrifices, or were they left here for some other reason?
Sean couldn’t figure it out.
Hans excitedly pointed at the statue and said to Sean :
"We found it, we found it!"
Sean smiled. Yes, they had indeed found it.
Hans couldn’t wait any longer, rushing over. Sean only said:
"Be careful!"
Surprisingly, Hans listened and slowed down, taking one step at a time towards the statue.
When he reached the stairs, Hans stopped and looked back at Sean asking:
"Aren’t you coming over?"
Sean looked around and, seeing no issues, walked over.
Seeing Sean coming, Hans finally relaxed. He ascended the stairs step by step, saying as he went:
"This wealth is enough for us to spend in a lifetime!"
Only then did Sean think of a question, asking:
"Mr. Hans, how will you bring all these things back?"
"Once we’re out, I’ll call a helicopter with a satellite phone and load these things back!"
"Did you coordinate in advance?" Sean asked.
"No," Hans shook his head and said, "At that time, I couldn’t confirm that I would find the treasure, and I didn’t have enough money to hire a helicopter. But things are different now..."
He glanced greedily at the gold and said:
"Not just hiring, even buying a few helicopters wouldn’t be a problem!"
Sean naturally understood that he meant the large transport helicopters.
Finally, Hans ascended the stairs.
Looking up at the statue, Hans sighed:
"What a strange civilization, worshipping such a peculiar figure."
Sean didn’t say anything.
Standing on someone else’s territory, it was best to refrain from speaking disrespectful words.
Hans took a few steps forward and grabbed a handful of golden daggers, unable to hold back his laughter.
Sean advised:
"Mr. Hans, let’s take some of this stuff out first and then make plans. Staying here just doesn’t feel safe."
Hearing Sean’s words, Hans hesitated a bit. After thinking for a moment, he said:
"That’s fine too. We’ll pack some stuff and leave, then close the door and go find the helicopter!"
As he spoke, he took off his backpack, dumped out all the contents, and began filling it with gold and gemstones.
There was a lot of gold and gemstones here, but Hans only said to Sean:
"Sean, you pack some too. There’s a share for you in here!"
He didn’t call out to the others.
Sean didn’t hesitate, took off his backpack, and began filling it as well.
Just then, the ground suddenly started shaking, and sand began pouring down from the ceiling of the hall!
"Danger!" Sean shouted, "We have to get out of here!"
In just a moment, the sand leaking from above was already half a meter thick!
Hans was decisive, grabbed his package, and ran out!
"Boss, get out of there!" Elijah shouted.
"Okay!" Sean glanced back and then looked at Hans’ retreating figure before pressing the statue’s chair!
Too bad about those offerings!
Although Sean was behind, he quickly caught up with Hans.
By now, Mila had retreated, and Hans had rushed out of the door and into the corridor.
Only Elijah and Lincoln were left guarding the door, anxiously waiting for Sean!
Sean reached the door and said to the two of them:
"Let’s go!"
Elijah and Lincoln ran after Sean, and by then, the sand had already blocked the door!
And looking ahead, the stone wall that had just been lowered was slowly rising!
"Hurry! Pick up the pace!"
Sean realized that a trap had been accidentally triggered, intending to bury them all alive!
No wonder he saw so much sand underground earlier!
Sand was now pouring into the corridor as well!
The three of them sprinted forward and, with the stone wall halfway up, jumped over it one by one.
Lincoln initially wanted to trip Sean, but he found out that Sean wasn’t slower than him, so he just laughed and followed.
"Ah—!"
A scream came from up ahead, and Sean knew it was Hans’ voice!
He rushed over, only to find that Hans had fallen into a trap beneath the panel!
Sean ran over and peered into the hole, seeing Hans sinking into the sand below. He urgently pulled a rope from his "backpack" and threw it to Hans. Hans grabbed the rope, and with Sean and Elijah’s help, they pulled him up!
Mila stood in the corridor, anxiously saying:
"The positions of the panels have changed!"
Sean looked, and indeed, the positions of the flipping panels had changed!
"Follow me!" he immediately jumped forward!
Everyone followed Sean, by this time the sand reached their calves, making every step difficult!
Hans breathed heavily and was incredibly grateful!
If it had been someone else, they’d already be buried in quicksand by now!
Too bad about that bag of gold!
But he comforted himself - as long as they could get out, they could have workers bring equipment to dig out the sand later and the treasure would still be there!
Finally, they rushed out of the corridor, only to find that the sand was pouring in from the outside corridor too, and the passage was slowly sinking!
"Hurry up and get out!" Sean shouted as he ran.
No one bothered to check how Jason and Green were doing in the left passage.
Finally, they made it out of the corridor, only to see the stone platform sinking!
"Run out quickly!" Sean thought of the sand underground around the stone platform and immediately warned, "It’s not safe here!"
They quickly jumped off the stone platform and started running away.
Elijah and Lincoln even took the time to strap on Jason and Green’s backpacks.
Then, the stone platform "rumbled" and sank!
Not only did the stone platform sink, but the surrounding land also began to collapse!
Large sections of stone slabs flipped over, and soon, the sand underneath turned the area into a small quicksand desert!
Sean and the others were still not out of danger!
When Hans and Mila ran out of the corridor, they were nearly exhausted, and Elijah and Lincoln had to support them as they walked.
But now, the once solid ground had become quicksand, swaying under their feet!
If they didn’t hurry, they would sink into the sand and have no chance of survival!
