Chapter 221: Chapter 205: As one wave settles, another one arises.
Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington, including Old Man Hans, stared intently at the thrown hand grenade, their hearts in their throats!
Only Sean Knight, with his Sky Eye fully activated, aimed his pistol at the largest mother spider, ready to shoot at any moment!
Then they saw the hand grenade accurately hit the spider guard he had shot at earlier, and it exploded with a "bang"!
The huge impact, fragments, and flames blasted seven or eight large spiders nearby!
The mother spider, which had originally hidden behind the guard, had sensed the danger after Sean fired and tried to retreat. But now, the massive impact shattered it into countless pieces, with dark green bodily fluids splashing everywhere and small spiders being blown away!
Although Elijah and Lincoln couldn’t see the situation clearly, they could clearly feel the spiders’ attacks hesitating slightly!
Meanwhile, Sean exclaimed excitedly:
"I hit it! The spider’s head is gone!"
Of course, this meant that they were without a leader, and everyone understood!
"Ouch!" Green screamed, drawing everyone’s attention back.
Some spiders around the fire circle were still crazily jumping in!
Poor Green was bitten by a spider again!
He didn’t even have the strength to step on the spider, and simply collapsed on the ground!
"Why aren’t they retreating?" Jason asked Sean while swinging his stick, "Didn’t you say you hit the target?"
Sean was also puzzled and could only vaguely reply:
"Might be their final madness!"
"It could also be revenge! They do seek vengeance!" Jason said bitterly. He hadn’t initially agreed with the idea of splitting up to bomb the mother spider, which resulted in Green getting bitten again.
The group quickly returned to the "game" of fighting spiders, only now the spiders became even more ferocious, with a higher frequency of jumping in!
Hans was just a little bit slower, and several spiders slipped through, with one even lunging at his face!
If it wasn’t for Sean next to him swiftly swatting the spider away, Hans might’ve had the spider latched onto his face!
Seeing the wide-open fangs of the spider, Hans scrambled back, terrified, and couldn’t continue to attack!
The courage he had just gathered had vanished without a trace!
Instead, Mila stepped up, along with Septimius Coleman, and together they blocked the gap Hans had left.
Just as everyone was busy, Sean suddenly shouted:
"It’s retreating! The spiders behind are retreating!"
Upon looking, everyone indeed saw the spiders retreating!
Although there were still quite a few spiders around the fire circle jumping crazily, the spiders behind them retreated like a tide, disappearing into the jungle in no time!
With the lack of reinforcements, Sean and the others finally felt relieved!
Elijah killed the last jumping spider, and no more spiders came.
The intensity of the fire circle also subsided.
Jason plopped down on the ground, almost unable to move.
Mila, who joined the battle last and still had some energy left, began to treat Green’s wounds.
Elijah, carrying his stick, said:
"I’ll go out and have a look, just in case they pull a sneak attack later. I’ll also bring back some firewood."
Sean nodded.
Lincoln then began throwing the dead spiders out of the fire circle.
Although Jason harbored some complaints about Sean, he knew that if it weren’t for Sean and the others, they would surely have ended up like the Rolled-tail Monkey – the spiders’ dinner.
He wiped the sweat from his face, picked up a water bottle, and prepared to drink some water.
As he reached for the water bottle, he grabbed something soft instead.
Upon inspecting it, he saw it was a large spider!
The spider had apparently been stepped on, with half of its body crushed, but its fangs were still intact.
At that moment, the spider bared its fangs at Jason, its eight compound eyes fixed on him, its hair raised. Two large fangs oozed transparent Poison Liquid and were opening and closing, ready to bite!
"Ahh-!"
Caught off guard, Jason screamed and threw the spider away forcefully!
Jason’s scream caught everyone’s attention. When they saw the half-dead spider he had thrown, they couldn’t help but sigh in relief. Then, Old Man Hans shamelessly burst into laughter.
"Jason, so you do have moments of being scared!"
"It’s not..." Jason weakly defended, his face red, "Who could think that after being stepped on, it still had the vitality? Its fangs were still dripping with venom..."
He could hardly imagine what would have happened if those two fangs had pierced his body and then some unpredictable things occured!
"Maybe you’d become Spider-Man?" Hans joked.
"Screw Spider-Man!" Jason looked around and finally saw no trace of spiders. He picked up the water bottle and took a sip, swearing, "I’ll never watch any movies about spiders, ever again!"
Elijah came back carrying a bundle of tree branches, added them to the fire, and was startled by Jason’s scream earlier.
However, his good mental state allowed him to notice there were no more aggressive spiders around, and he returned to the circle.
"The spiders around have retreated. There are a few still on the trees, spinning webs, but they should be part of their normal hunting behavior," said Elijah as he stepped into the circle.
"We’re temporarily safe, but I think we still can’t let our guard down. Let’s gather more branches later; the sky is about to brighten, and it seems we won’t be able to sleep."
Septimius Coleman hopped out, vigilant, and quickly shot out. When he returned, he dragged a python back with him.
