Chapter 210: Chapter 199: Dangerous Road All the Way_2
The small deer’s tender meat did not need much effort to cook, and soon a delicious aroma wafted in the air.
This made the mercenaries eating dry rations quite envious.
Of course, it was also thanks to the ginger, garlic, and onions in Sean Knight’s "backpack" that helped to remove the gamey taste.
In no time, the meat was ready, and the three of them served themselves a big bowl, eating heartily with pieces of bread.
Hans Hunter and Mila Ward also got a few pieces of meat and a bowl of soup.
The other mercenaries gathered around, enjoying a bowl of the delicious soup.
Originally, there was some tension between the two teams, but this bowl of soup helped to alleviate it a lot.
The group continued moving forward, and before nightfall, they saw some wooden cabins and straw huts in the jungle.
Hans was overjoyed upon seeing this, and excitedly said to Sean:
"This is the tribe I found last time. Although it is still far away from the treasure land, the tribal residents are very hospitable and familiar with the paths in the jungle. If we can find their help, it will be much more convenient."
Sean was a little doubtful, wondering if everything going so smoothly was normal. If it was, why hadn’t Hans been able to find the place despite trying several times?
With doubts in their minds, they approached the tribe. However, they were soon stopped outside the tribe by a group of short primitive residents dressed in tree leaf clothing, pointing their javelins at them!
The mercenaries and Elijah Hastings, Lincoln Harrington, and the others immediately pulled out their guns and faced off with the tribal warriors.
Hans hurriedly shouted, "Don’t panic!" Then he pushed Septimius Coleman forward to explain things.
Septimius approached the tribal residents, chattering in their language, and they responded in kind. They went back and forth for a while before Septimius returned and spoke to Mila.
Mila translated:
"They said that there is already a group of guests in the tribe, and they are not welcoming new guests at the moment. They ask us to go somewhere else!"
New guests?
Hans and Sean exchanged glances, wondering if someone else had arrived before them. Was this just a coincidence?
Hans quickly said to Mila, "Tell them we brought the salt, cloth, rice, and other things they need, and we will make them satisfied!"
Sean then understood that Hans’s big bag was filled with supplies to exchange with the tribe!
Mila translated for Septimius, who relayed the message to the tribal warriors. Upon hearing this, one of them immediately went back to the tribe, and the others’ attitudes softened considerably.
After a while, a tribal resident wearing more clothing emerged, carrying a wooden stick, likely a wizard or priest of some sort, and was accompanied by the warrior who had left earlier.
Upon seeing him, Septimius immediately became more respectful and chattered a long string of words at the priest. The priest’s expression softened, and he nodded and waved his hand, saying a few words before turning and leaving.
The tribal warriors moved aside, allowing a path through for them, and Septimius loudly relayed the message to Mila, clearly trying to show off his achievements.
Although Mila hadn’t translated yet, everyone guessed the priest’s intent: they were allowed to enter the tribe.
Mila translated, and it turned out to be just as they thought.
A warrior led them to a straw hut, pointed to it while speaking to Septimius, and then left.
However, several warriors remained nearby, armed with javelins and blow arrows, clearly watching them with suspicion.
Septimius translated for the group, and they understood that the straw hut was meant for them to stay in temporarily.
There weren’t many places to stay in the tribe, but Sean noticed that tents had been set up near some wooden cabins in the distance. It seemed there were indeed outsiders here!
Sean and Hans decided that the straw hut would belong to Mila, while the others would stay in tents.
As they set up their tents and put down their backpacks, three people approached them from the wooden cabins.
One man, one woman, and an armed bodyguard.
The man was about forty years old, wearing a cowboy hat, short-sleeved shirt, and shorts, reminiscent of the protagonist in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," but his thin frame couldn’t quite pull off the same aura.
The woman was quite beautiful, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, holding a camera, with wavy blonde hair, curiously looking at the group.
The armed man appeared to be a bodyguard, with a similar demeanor to Jason, and it was unclear whether he was a mercenary or from a security company.
"Mr. Hans? I never thought I’d run into you here!" The man expressed exaggerated surprise upon seeing Hans and spread his arms as if to give him a hug, "Life is indeed full of surprises!"
Hans’s face turned pale at the sight of the man:
"Doncaster, I don’t think meeting you is a surprise! I think it’s a disaster! You shameless guy, are you trying to steal my treasure? Let me tell you, you will never succeed!"
"Oh dear! Dear Hans, how could you think that way?" Doncaster said with feigned grievance:
"I’m just happening to be on the same road as you at the same time, looking for the same treasure.
No one has said that the treasure must belong to you, right? Whoever finds it first gets to keep it, and I think my luck is not bad..."
Having said that, without waiting for Hans to reply, he looked at Sean Knight:
"So you’re that lucky Chinese boy? I hope your luck is useful in this weird jungle! Hahaha!"
After finishing, he turned and left.
Hans was so enraged that he didn’t even have a chance to fight back.
Sean Knight went over and said to Hans:
"If you get upset, you’ll fall for his trap. He came over on purpose to irritate you. If you decide to leave the tribe and head deeper into the jungle now, you’d be playing right into his hands!"
Hans, being an experienced person, was just angered just now. But he quickly understood Doncaster’s sinister intention as he calmed down.
Jason’s face turned ugly, and he said:
"I’ll find someone to inquire about their situation."
Before he could even finish speaking, Lincoln Harrington had already sneaked back and told Sean Knight:
"There are thirteen of them. In addition to Doncaster and the woman Phoebe, there’s also a guide and ten mercenaries. They have excellent weapons and rich combat experience!"
Lincoln Harrington’s voice wasn’t small, and the others heard it as well.
Jason’s face turned even more awkward!
He had just thought about finding out about the situation, and Lincoln had already done it!
Lincoln continued his report:
"They have automatic weapons, and the tribal people are trading with them..."
As soon as these words were spoken, Hans’s face turned even uglier!
Things weren’t going as smoothly as they had imagined!
There’s no good solution for the moment.
Even with the Sky Eye, there’s not much that Sean Knight could do at this time.
At this moment, two men from the tribe came over and talked to Septimius Coleman.
Septimius Coleman translated it through Mila Ward.
It turned out that part of the tribe’s produce had already been exchanged by Doncaster and the others. If Hans and his group still wanted to exchange, the price would be lower.
Through Septimius Coleman’s translation, Sean Knight was surprised to find that the tribe was actually rich in placer gold!
Exchanging salt for placer gold is a good deal!
Too bad the tribe’s placer gold has been taken away by Doncaster and his group.
Hans didn’t feel regretful; he suggested using his own supplies to exchange for a guide.
After hearing Hans’s request for a guide, the tribal people immediately stated that their people couldn’t travel that far.
These supplies of salt, cloth, and rice could only exchange for a guide who could go a day’s journey away from the tribe. Any further, and they couldn’t go.
If it weren’t for Doncaster’s presence, Hans would have been able to bargain with them. But now, he knew that it wasn’t wise to drag the negotiation any longer, so he immediately agreed.
As bags of salt and other supplies were handed over, the tribal people happily took them away. After a while, they brought two pots of food to Hans’s group.
Anybody could see that these tribal residents felt they had gained a great advantage.
One of the pots of food was like porridge, emitting a mix of fragrant and fishy smells.
The other pot contained slightly fermented fruits mixed together, resembling a kind of beverage or canned food.
Faced with such food, except for Septimius Coleman who ate a bit, others didn’t touch it and had their self-heating food for dinner instead.
As night fell, the tribal people lit a bonfire and began to sing and dance joyfully.
Sean Knight guessed that they must have gotten a lot of scarce supplies, which made them so happy.
However, the people in this tribe are generally shorter, looking harmless like children.
Early the next morning, Sean Knight’s opinion changed!
Because he saw a group of tribal warriors returning from outside, with three of them carrying a crocodile and five of them dragging a giant python!
This isn’t something ordinary people can handle!
