Chapter 204: Chapter 197: There Really Are Good Items!
Mr. Hans’ proposal did make Sean a little tempted.
So he arranged the time with Hans and went to his house with Elijah and Lincoln, ignoring Douglas’ resentful gaze.
Hans’ home is located in the interior of a high-rise in New York, a duplex. Looking around, Sean figured the area was about 200 square meters.
Pressing the doorbell, Hans first glanced through the peephole and then opened the door, smiling as he welcomed Sean and his two companions inside.
"Mr. Knight, what would you like to drink?" Hans was very friendly.
"No need, let’s just take a look at your items first." Sean scanned Hans’ room, his heart already pounding with excitement!
It turns out that Hans really had some great stuff, hidden deeply away!
Seeing that Sean was eager, Hans didn’t beat around the bush. He motioned for Elijah and Lincoln to stay behind while he took Sean to his storage room.
A servant came over to pour coffee for Elijah and Lincoln.
Not only were Hans and some servants in the house, but there was also a woman in camouflage uniform sitting in the Dining Hall, looking at something.
Showing only her side profile, she looked very pretty, around twenty years old, giving off a vibe of Eastern European white person. Her hair was tied up, revealing her snow-white neck.
Sean just glanced at her. He saw that the woman was armed and guessed that she might be Hans’ bodyguard.
That old man sure liked to splurge!
Hans didn’t know how Sean evaluated him. He led Sean in front of a locked door, fishing out the key while talking:
"I have collected many good items over the years, but in order to fund this treasure hunt, I had to sell most of the valuable ones."
It was evident that Hans also was somewhat reluctant to let go of those collectibles.
The door opened, and to Sean’s surprise, the room had a constant temperature and humidity system. Inside were three shelves, each divided into three layers.
However, many places on the shelves were now empty, evidently as Hans had said, the items had already been sold for money.
As Sean entered and glanced around, he found that there were still several good Chinese antiques left.
"Mr. Knight, what about this blue and white porcelain vase? It has been appraised by experts and dates back to the Yuan Dynasty, making it currently the most popular age for blue and white porcelain."
Hans pointed to a blue and white prunus vase and introduced it to Sean.
Sean shook his head; his target was clearly not this.
Although this blue and white porcelain was valuable, it was obviously hyped. Indeed, once the craze has passed, it would be rather ordinary.
"Then what about these two Color Enamel Hexagonal Bottles? They have been said to be made during a period in your ancient China when an emperor, Qianlong, had them officially crafted. They are very exquisite and exceedingly rare!"
Hans introduced quite enthusiastically, indeed pointing out some of the more valuable items.
However, as he looked at the vulgar colors, Sean just couldn’t appreciate the beauty in them.
Seeing Sean shaking his head, Hans remained undaunted and continued to introduce:
"What about this porcelain bowl from an ancient dynasty you called Ming? Not good? Then you’ll probably like this one, a very old and rare bronze ware..."
Hans was referring to a small chime bells component.
Sean still shook his head.
Hans introduced a few more pieces and finally said regretfully:
"Knight, you’ve seen all the China-related collectibles in this storage room. You really don’t like any of them?"
Sean smiled and said:
"Mr. Hans, I think you have more than just these items, right? With so many years of collecting, you must have other things you haven’t brought out. What I want to see is your sincerity!"
Hans said earnestly:
"Sean, these items have been appraised by experts and are considered relatively valuable. As for other things, I certainly have them.
However, some of them haven’t been appraised, and I can’t guarantee their authenticity. Most of them have no provenance, or at least no valuable provenance, and I don’t think you’d be interested in them."
"Let’s just take a look first." Sean remained noncommittal.
Since Hans needed Sean’s help, he naturally had no objections.
The two men left the door, and after Hans locked it, he took Sean to another room.
This room was more casual. Although it was locked, the door clearly wasn’t burglar-proof. Upon opening, there was no constant temperature and humidity control, and a faint musty smell filled the air.
There were also a few shelves in this room, but the items on them were arranged more casually. Though not a total mess, some pieces hadn’t been processed and were just left as is, much like items just received from an excavation site.
The odd mix of smells combined to create a very unpleasant odor.
Hans waited for the smell to dissipate a little before taking Sean inside and immediately opening the window.
Lincoln whispered to Elijah:
"Did the boss not find anything to his liking?"
Elijah was not worried at all:
"Don’t worry too much, the boss has his own decisions."
Having followed Sean for so long, Elijah had hardly seen him fail.
He and Jason had naturally discussed Sean’s experiences. A Chinese man, coming to America alone, had fought others, been in gunfights, and single-handedly built his own empire, which was enough to earn his admiration.
Lincoln stopped talking, though his eyes remained on the beautiful woman.
He seemed to have caught a whiff of a familiar scent.
Sean glanced around then his heart started pounding.
"If you want to pick something, you can choose five items from here to take with you, but if we find the treasure, your share will need to be reduced."
