Chapter 191: Chapter 190: Who’s Cheating Whom?
Heine and David waited at the bar, while Sean and Elijah went to fetch the items.
As Sean was about to leave, his mobile phone rang. He took out the phone and saw that it was a call from Jason.
Sean answered the call, and Jason reported:
"Bosuns, we’ve sold that batch of wood. Because there were drawings and some matching accessories, we sold them for seventy-five thousand US dollars."
With a net profit of fifty thousand dollars, it was quite a good income.
Sean replied:
"Put the money in the account. You go do your own thing."
"Okay, Bosuns." Jason hung up the phone.
Sean and Elijah left in the car, and George had something else to do, so Heine and David whispered to each other.
"I don’t think this Sean will deliver the stuff easily." David always held a grudge against Sean.
"Let’s wait until he comes over." Heine didn’t make a conclusion but said, "Get the money ready. We mustn’t break our word."
David was somewhat reluctant, but his position was inherently lower than Heine’s, and they had just agreed that, considering the funds for their current mission, one hundred thousand dollars wasn’t enough to cause a significant loss.
"Don’t be so stingy." Heine saw David’s mood wasn’t great and advised him, "If we get the information and find those locations, the return will be a hundred or even a thousand-fold. So it’s worth risking one hundred thousand dollars on this!"
David thought about it and suddenly laughed:
"Would Sean cry out of regret when he finds out the information we got is worth a fortune, and he’s sold it for just 100,000 dollars?"
Heine smiled faintly, thinking that only someone as naive as David would consider this kind of question.
Young people, they have so little experience!
In less than an hour, Sean and Elijah returned.
Sitting back in his seat, Sean took out a large envelope and put it on the table.
David reached for it, but Elijah slapped his hand.
David glared at Elijah in pain.
"Do you know the rules?" Elijah spoke directly.
As David was about to argue, Heine pulled him back and said to Sean:
"We will transfer the money."
Sean provided the account number and waited for the transfer to be completed before pushing the large envelope over.
David grabbed the envelope, handed it to Heine, who didn’t accept it, and motioned for him to open it.
David opened the envelope and pulled out a stack of papers.
Seeing the first sheet, David hesitated for a moment and turned to look at Heine.
"Let me see." Heine carefully looked at the sheet, turned it over, and said:
"It is indeed from that era."
David was somewhat puzzled:
"But the content..."
"There are so many," Heine pointed to the forty to fifty sheets of paper in his hand and said: "Let’s research them later."
Although still uneasy, David quickly flipped through the pages, noting that the paper quality and writing were similar, and nodded.
Initially, Sean was worried that they would notice something amiss, but it seemed that neither of them knew exactly what was in the mine, so he was relieved.
"Mr. Knight, is that all there is?" Heine, the more careful one, asked a question.
"This is all I found," Sean complained, "Actually, what I found inside, besides some old weapons and some decades-old US dollars, were two gold bars and these things that I don’t understand. For this, I almost lost my life. It doesn’t feel worth it!"
Hearing this, Heine and David looked at each other, feeling that Sean really had a hard time.
The two of them chatted for a few more sentences before leaving in a hurry. They still had to study the documents carefully.
Elijah didn’t understand and asked after they left:
"You really gave them the stuff?"
"Ha," Sean laughed, "I gave it to them, so what? A bunch of outdated weapon design documents sold for 100,000 dollars, I’m already delighted! By the way, go get the package from the car."
Elijah fetched the package, and Sean took it to the counter, where Mr. John smiled and said:
"You look good. You’ve gained some weight after your trip home."
Sean laughed and said, "For us Chinese, gaining weight when returning home is normal. If we lose weight, our mothers would be unhappy. This is a gift for you."
The gift Sean gave Mr. John was a wood carving from his hometown. It was not expensive, but it was a work of an old craftsman, which showed Sean’s thoughtfulness.
Mr. John looked at it and liked it, thanking Sean with a smile.
"You’ve been very active in the cargo yard lately. Your helpers look unassuming, but they are energetic in getting things done." Mr. John knew the port’s cargo yard well, "In no time, you will be a respected boss at the port."
"I didn’t expect it to go this way when I started this small business." Sean said modestly.
"Young people, especially those with assets like yours, are rarely as humble as you." Mr. John commented, "But I don’t think you need to be so modest. It’s normal for young people to be impulsive, and you have accomplishments to be proud of. By the way, those people just now..."
"I once found the treasure of a ’Ten-Thousand Characters’ military officer, and they learned about it from some channel. They wanted the information left by the officer. I didn’t need it, so I sold it to them."
Sean didn’t care about this matter.
But Mr. John didn’t think so, and said seriously:
"Sean, you’d better keep your distance from them! These people are incredibly persistent, or stubborn! If what you’ve given them is not what they want, they will continue to pester you! Just think about what they’ve done in the Middle East, and you’ll see how difficult these people are!"
Sean nodded, acknowledging the lesson.
Indeed, he had initially underestimated the situation.
What would they do if they studied it and found it wasn’t what they wanted?
Would they change their target or keep investigating him?
It seemed he couldn’t move on to the European target for now.
Sean had planned to take a break for a while and, if nothing happened, go there to take a look.
He could retrieve the treasure while on a tour, wouldn’t that be nice?
However, it seemed the treasure would have to wait a little longer.
Sean left the bar and returned to his new villa. He sent Elijah to find Jason and asked Jason to rent a suite nearby for Elijah.
It wasn’t that Sean didn’t want Elijah to stay in the villa, but when he and Joanna were up to their antics, the noise was a bit too much, and it would be awkward for Elijah to be in the same house.
Understanding, Elijah went to find Jason.
Sean then took the gift to Joanna’s university.
Joanna knew Sean was back, so she skipped class and rushed out of the school gates. Seeing Sean, she leaped onto him, wrapped her legs around his waist and kissed him passionately!
Fortunately, Sean was strong enough to withstand the impact, otherwise, he might have fallen.
After kissing for several minutes, they broke apart without saying a word, and Sean could feel the deep affection in Joanna’s eyes.
There was no need for words; they got into the car and went back to the villa!
