Chapter 178: Chapter 177: Returning Home in Fine Clothes - Changes

The flight back home wasn’t exciting, no chance encounters or fun stuff, quite disappointing.

Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings went their separate ways once they arrived at the airport.

Sean didn’t specify when they would meet again.

Elijah was a reliable bodyguard, but if he found a better life back home, Sean wouldn’t stop him.

If he wanted to venture out with Sean, that was his choice.

Took a high-speed rail to the provincial city, then a car to his hometown in the county town.

It’s almost New Year, and everywhere you go, there are passengers hurrying home.

The county town hadn’t changed much in the months that Sean had been away, but having been accustomed to the scenery in America, he found the view here lacking.

Soon, the familiar feeling returned.

Instead of going home right away, Sean went to a 4S Store and paid in full for a Changan CS95, a large SUV, which was handy for storage.

Although he had shipped some gifts home, a significant portion remained in his spatial realm, and he needed to find a place to take them out.

The large trunk was a pretty good choice.

Of course, he could have bought a more upscale car, but it wasn’t necessary in a small county town.

It’s nice to keep a low profile.

After completing the procedure for a temporary license plate, and took it for a few spins to get the feel of driving again, Sean decided to visit a shopping center in the county town.

He bought new down jackets for his grandfather and parents, as well as his older brother. He also grabbed a set for himself before feeling warm again.

The temperature in the county town was at least below freezing, and it was expected to get even colder at night, possibly below twenty degrees. Although Sean’s body had been remodeled to withstand the cold, there was no need for him to endure it. He still needed to dress warmly.

Sean’s father, Mark Knight, mother Nancy Knight, and older brother Oscar Knight, lived in the county town, but their household registration was still in the countryside.

In the Northwestern Countryside, due to the flat terrain and large land areas, cooperatives were formed, and large-scale farming meant that every household could earn more money.

So, Sean’s family bought a house in the county town, responding to the government’s initial call for real estate to go to the countryside.

As for whether it’s exploiting the farmer’s money, it’s a matter of different opinions.

After all, a couple of years ago, a neighboring town implemented centralized living, building an apartment building for each village, an experiment called "farmers moving up."

Although there were numerous benefits, like freeing up the original residential land and developing a large piece of land.

However, the farmers lost their courtyards upon moving out, making it harder to grow vegetables, and there was no place to put their furniture, raising pigs or chickens became impossible.

Then, when the deputy village chief in Sean’s village proposed a similar idea, he was harshly criticized by the village representatives at a meeting.

What matters to the farmers is practical benefits, regardless of whether you’re a deputy village chief or something else.

Then most of the people who made money from farming bought an apartment in the county town, and left their residential land in the village. Wintertime, after slaughtering the chickens and pigs, they would lock up the courtyard and move into the apartment. They would only return to the village to farm when spring arrived.

Sean’s family bought a second-hand house in an old district. Although the facilities were not impressive, it was convenient because many people from the village also bought houses there. It was similar to living in the village where you have familiar faces around once you step out—.

His grandfather, Ralph Knight, also lived upstairs. Originally, grandfather planned to stay in the village, but the family members disagreed. It’s too risky, leaving an old man alone in the village; it would be too late for regrets if something happened.

As he pulled into the little district, he saw Oscar Knight covering the electric tricycle with tarpaulin. He then parked his car and got out to help.

Surprised to see it was Sean, Oscar slapped him in shock and delight:

"You’re back already? Why didn’t you give a notice? I could have come to pick you up!"

Then, looking at the car beside Sean, his eyes shone with envy:

"Is this new? The car looks amazing!"

"Brother, this car is yours." Sean said with a smile, "I guessed mother and father didn’t buy a car, so I bought this when I came back. You won’t need that tricycle anymore."

After selling the Tang Sword, Sean Knight transferred 1 million from his card to his father, for home expenses. However, he guessed that his father probably wouldn’t spend this money, he’d save it for major expenses in the future.

"No, no, no, it’s more convenient to use an electric tricycle for farming." Oscar Knight shook his head, "This car can’t be used for farming, but it looks really good!"

"Brother, I will drive during the New Year holiday for you to get familiar with it. Once I leave, you’ll be the one driving this car."

Oscar had a driver’s license, which he had obtained a few years ago through an added license for his tractor. However, he wasn’t very skilled because they didn’t have a car at home.

"Let’s go home!" Oscar said nothing more and patted his little brother on the shoulder, "Our parents and grandfather will be so happy knowing you’re home."

"Brother, grab the stuff." Sean opened the trunk and, while calling Oscar, carried stuff out.

One of their peers, Anthony Lee, who was about Oscar’s age and also bought a house in the village, was coming downstairs. Seeing Oscar and Sean, he paused and greeted,

"Hey, Sean’s back? Is this your new car? It’s so big! That must have been quite a lot of money, right?"

"Not much." Sean was carrying stuff and asked, "Brother Lee, where are you going?"

"To buy vegetables." Anthony Lee grumpily said, "That’s the only inconvenience of living upstairs. You have to buy everything, and it’s not easy to carry up all the stuff from the village."

Enviously, he glanced at the car one more time before exiting the Little District.

The two brothers carried stuff up to the second floor. The sound of opera could already be heard even before they have opened the door.

Sean smiled and said,

"That must be grandpa listening to it."

"It’s slippery outside in winter and hard to go out. Watching opera is one of grandfather’s main hobbies." Oscar unlocked the door with a key, "If it were summer, grandpa would probably be out on a boat fishing."

Sean found the scene amusing.

As soon as the door opened, a wave of heat hit them. The two brothers put down a bunch of stuff at the door and changed into slippers. Mark Knight heard the noise and turned around to see, hesitated for a moment and then shouted,

"Sean? How come you didn’t make any noise when you came back? Why didn’t you let your brother pick you up?"

Nancy Knight, who was busy in the kitchen, and Ralph Knight, who was adjusting the pad while sitting on the sofa, watching opera, both turned to look.

The house instantly became lively.

That night, the family went to bed late. With the floor heating being so warm, Sean kept dozing off on the sofa.

The ashes of Jeremy Knight were temporarily kept at home. They would be buried in the ground after spring.

The second day, Sean went to meet his high school classmate Melissa Sinclair.

Melissa worked in a real estate company, selling houses - a fact he often came across in his WeChat moments.

Now, with several family members living in an old three-room style apartment, Sean felt it was a bit crowded when he returned home.

After all, his brother Oscar already had a partner and would naturally need a new house after getting married.

Melissa was very happy to see Sean, and even happier when he told her that he wanted to buy a properly furnished house and pay in full.

She patted Sean on the back and said,

"Old classmate, I heard that you went to the Beautiful Country? You must have made a fortune and are returning home in silks!"

"No, no, I just earned a little money." Sean smiled, "No matter how good it is outside, it can’t compare to the homeland."

"True." Melissa wore a proud expression. Many of their classmates had run off to the provincial capitals or regional cities, but she insisted on staying in the county town. At least it was near home, a fact she now realized had its advantages.

Although the procedures would take some time, the house could be confirmed immediately. With Melissa there, Sean wasn’t worried about any problems with the house.

An all-furnished apartment on the third floor, as soon as Sean confirmed it, he went back by car and brought his brother Oscar here:

"Brother, this will be your wedding room in the future."

"Sean, you...this isn’t right!" Oscar was a bit at a loss. Going out and coming back, there was such a big change in his little brother!
