Chapter 159: Chapter 158: Another One Destroyed

At noon, Sean’s meals finally improved.

Though it was self-heating Food, it was at least better than the dried compressed food.

After enjoying his meal, Sean took Peter to the place where the silver coin box had been dug up.

Seeing the pit, Peter gestured and one of his subordinates went over to check, discovering that indeed there were traces of two boxes buried here.

The pit was dug deeply, at the edge of the trees. The previous treasure hunting team never found this place, even with metal detectors.

"How did you find this place?" Peter suddenly asked Sean, "How could you tell that something was buried here?"

"This is a rather mystical field of study." Sean pointed at a cluster of trees in front of them, explained,

"On the same patch of land, the quality of the soil underground would not usually vary significantly. Therefore, the differences among the plants grown from the same soil should not be very large either.

Similarly, after experiencing weathering, the situation should also be more or less the same. If there is a difference, and it’s significant, that means there’s something different underground. An anomaly."

Then, Sean humbly said,

"I wasn’t completely sure either. You see, I also dug a few places around here and not all the spots yielded anything."

After hearing this, Peter didn’t think it was anything remarkable.

But he did check out the trees and soil layers for himself, and honestly, he couldn’t tell any difference either.

Peter’s subordinates started searching for Achak, repeatedly calling for him over the walkie-talkie.

However, there was no response.

In just two days, they were down two men, and Peter’s suspicion towards Sean intensified.

Could he be in cahoots with someone else?

Peter originally planned to confront Sean, but he was afraid that if Sean was innocent, they would end up falling out and Sean would no longer help him hunt for the treasure.

After all, the silver coins that Sean brought back today were worth several hundred thousand dollars!

This was the largest collection since they had started the treasure hunt!

And Peter was sure that this was not the treasure they were looking for!

If the amount of gold and silver coins Achak took was the same, the value would exceed a million dollars!

Could it be...

Peter couldn’t help but suspect Achak.

He called Sean over:

"You said that you found the gold coins first. Did you open the box to check?"

"I didn’t open it, Achak wanted to." Sean answered innocently,"He said he wanted to check what was inside.

After opening it and seeing the gold coins, he was so excited that he said he wanted to report back to you. Then he tied up the box of gold coins and dragged it away. He was really strong! With such high friction here, I couldn’t drag that box..."

Peter’s suspicion towards Achak grew stronger.

That much gold would cover Achak’s salary for how many years?

Wouldn’t one want to take the gold and leave if it were himself?

What about Charlie?

Charlie hasn’t returned yet either.

Are there other people on the island?

Is it another group, Achak’s accomplices, or ...

Peter felt his mind was in a mess.

There were no more finds in the vicinity, but today’s harvest was impressive enough to make Peter’s subordinates happy.

Peter wasn’t as stingy as Brown.

As long as they found the treasure, he was willing to share some with his subordinates, and even the small amount was enough to put them in high spirits.

That night, aside from the two who were assigned to keep night watch, everyone else was promised a share of the money.

Although they hadn’t received anything yet, they knew that Peter was a man of his word, and the money was guaranteed.

So they cheerfully celebrated.

This was a good start.

Despite being short of two men, they believed that those who were loyal to Mr. Peter would return.

Sean Knight was given a bottle of wine, which he sipped sporadically, seated next to the burning fire, choosing not to join Peter’s men in their festivities.

One of the men lamented the absence of women, to which Peter joked that next time, he would bring his girlfriend over. The crude joke was met with uproarious laughter.

Sean stood up and walked into the wooden cabin.

Soon, he was asleep.

"He’s really asleep?" Peter had been watching Sean the entire time.

"He’s asleep. I listened for a while, his breathing is even. He’s not pretending to sleep," one of his men reported.

"He can sleep at a time like this?" Peter had tried to isolate Sean by having his men distance themselves from him.

However, when Sean revealed that he could not care less about being ostracized, Peter felt a heavy sense of defeat.

Nevertheless, he perked up knowing that Sean was hunting a treasure for him.

With two men less, Sean found himself the sole inhabitant of the cabin that night.

In the middle of the night, Sean’s eyes fluttered open.

He activated the Sky Eye and scanned around him.

The man on night watch was dozing off, propped against a tree.

The rest of Peter’s men were sleeping soundly, snores filling the air.

Peter was also asleep, a bottle of alcohol sat unfinished on the nightstand next to his bed.

Sean got up, retrieved a semi-automatic rifle from his spatial realm, silently cracked open the door to aim at the man on watch.

"Bang!"

The gunshot punctuated the silence of the night, jolting everyone awake.

Sean quickly hid the rifle and locked his door, crouching behind a corner.

In the adjacent cabin, Peter’s men who were suddenly awakened did not seem too shocked. Some shouted for the night watchman, others fetched their rifles to stake out defense positions, and a few called out for Peter on the walkie-talkie.

It was coordinated.

Pity, the night watchman did not respond, for Sean had shot him through the heart, killing him instantly.

Several minutes later, the noise ceased, as they discovered the night watchman was shot dead, too fearful to venture outside until daybreak.

When the first bodyguard signaled safety, he immediately went to check on the night watchman.

"Rifle bullet," one of Peter’s men reported to him, "it came from the direction of the hill behind the cabin."

"Dammit!" Peter swore, never imagining one of his men would get shot.

With the discovery of the rifle, suddenly Sean was cleared of suspicion.

"We need to leave this island immediately!"

Peter trust Sean’s innocence. His mind shifted focus from the suspicion of Sean to escaping the current predicament.

They had to leave.

They were in the open, while their enemy was in hiding. Even though Sean could find the treasure, they had to stay alive to obtain it!

At this rate, they would all end up dead!

The group instantly gathered their belongings and retreated. Sean shouldered his backpack and followed.

He remained on alert, should Peter try to get rid of him, he was ready to fight back with his Thompson!

Fortunately, Peter chose not to abandon Sean but asked him to board the boat with them.

When the boat had sailed a few kilometers from the island, the men finally settled.

Peter stared at the island and declared:

"I will return!"

Sean on the contrary, was still on high alert.

He feared that Peter might kill him at sea and throw his body overboard.

He was considering finding an opportunity to dispatch the remaining members of Peter’s party as well.

However, during the three-day sail, Peter was with his men at all times. Even the surveillance on Sean was stricter.

Thus, there was no opportunity.

When the boat reached the port, Peter called Sean into the captain’s room.
