Chapter 157: Chapter 156: Mysterious Gunshot!
Peter didn’t say anything else to Sean Knight, but just waved his hand and let him leave, staying behind to learn more details about how Sean had found the box.
"...He went to a bay and said that it should be a place where small boats could stop. He guessed that if large boats couldn’t stop, they might send small boats to unload things and start digging for traces nearby. Then, he dug up this box under a tree."
"How deep did he dig?"
"About a meter deep."
"Only this box, and nothing else?"
"Yes. When the box was opened, I was watching. There was nothing inside but seawater."
"Well, keep a close eye on him tomorrow, I think this guy is trying to play tricks..."
...
The next day, Sean still got up early. After eating breakfast, he continued to "patrol the island" with his backpack.
Charlie followed him silently.
To Sean’s surprise, Peter and the others came not long after them.
Sean thought about it and realized that Peter probably wanted to see if there was anything else to be discovered around the area where he found the box the day before.
After walking for more than two hours, they arrived at the bay, and Sean stopped.
In fact, with Sky Eye opened, he had already confirmed that although there had been small boats stopping here a long time ago, it was not the place where the gold and silver were transported.
At most, it could be considered a resting stop for pirates or sea merchants.
That’s because there is a spring not far from the bay.
In the vast sea, islands with fresh water are bound to be valued by those at sea.
However, there is no flat area around the bay, and the terrain is not very good, so it can only be a temporary stopping point.
The empty box dug up by Sean must have been abandoned by pirates or sea merchants at that time.
If you dig nearby more, there will be some. Such things are left for Peter to do.
He pretended to search around here for a while and then continued on without further concern.
Charlie continued to follow, but he kept his eyes on Sean.
After walking for one to two kilometers, Sean reached a high point and saw that Peter and his people had reached the bay and were digging nearby.
He went down a not very high mountain ridge, and Sean stopped.
Here is a beach, with sandy beaches and reefs, but it’s not very large.
Sean suddenly stopped, turned his back to the sea, and walked deep into the island.
Charlie followed behind and suddenly asked:
"Why are you going inside?"
"I think there might be something inside. I’ll go and have a look."
"Since you have already told Mr. Peter that you want to search around the island, it’s best to follow the rules!"
Charlie’s tone was very blunt, clearly not wanting Sean to break the rules.
"A week’s time may not be enough just to patrol the island. I hope to find more clues." Sean explained, "There might be discoveries inside."
Charlie didn’t say anything more.
The island’s middle is high and surrounded by low areas, and after walking a distance forward, they began to climb the mountain.
At a platform about a dozen meters above sea level, Sean suddenly stopped and began to dig with his tools.
The soil here is very hard, but the place where Sean is digging is very soft, and he quickly digs a big hole.
Then there is a stone slab, Sean suddenly exclaimed with excitement:
"There’s treasure!"
Charlie, who had been watching all along, heard Sean say there was treasure and was suddenly shocked. He immediately approached:
"Where?"
He yanked Sean aside:
"You go over there! Let me see!"
Charlie looked into the pit and saw a gold coin half-exposed in the soil.
Indeed, a treasure had been discovered!
Unfortunately, the end of this man’s life was approaching!
At once showing a greedy expression but immediately restraining himself, Charlie pulled out his pistol and threatened Sean:
"Okay, you stay away! I’ll report this matter to Mr. Peter!"
Sean retreated two steps and Charlie suddenly raised his gun. Sean, as if already aware, dodged out of the way and a gun appeared in his hand, shooting three rounds at Charlie!
Charlie couldn’t believe it: How could this man possibly have a gun?
Hadn’t he been searched?
It can’t be...
With Charlie killed, Sean immediately approached, took Charlie into his spatial realm, including the blood-soaked soil, Charlie’s gun, and all traces that could expose them, such as the bullet shells he had shot off.
After cleaning up, Sean continued to dig in the pit – that gold coin was deliberately placed by him. Although there were things buried below, it wasn’t any treasure.
Inside a broken box were some decaying things, which seemed to be seeds or rotten spices.
Centuries ago, spices were more valuable than gold, so it was normal to store such things here. It was just that the person who buried it never came back to retrieve it in time.
Only about ten minutes later, two people ran over and questioned Sean when they saw him:
"What’s going on? Where’s Charlie?"
Sean stood up, dusted off the soil on his body, and pointed in the direction of the mountain, saying:
"Just now, Charlie saw something moving in the shadows and rushed towards it. While he was charging, he fired a few shots, and then he was gone."
Sean spoke calmly, and the two men exchanged glances, searching the area.
They even looked at the pit that Sean had turned over, and with the discovery of the broken wooden box, both felt a shock.
They continued to search, from top to bottom, including the beach.
Naturally, they found no clues.
One of them looked at Sean, and the other ran in the direction that he had pointed.
There are dense plants there, not very high, three or four meters tall, and it is easy for a person to hide there.
The man who ran came back, and the two of them took Sean and the box back to the bay.
"You said that Charlie ran into the woods?" Peter looked at his hands digging on the site when he asked this, speaking coldly:
"Impossible! Charlie wouldn’t do anything so foolish! Did you try to harm him?"
Sean spread his hands:
"Your men have guns, and I have only a shovel. And he’s always behind me. How can I harm him? Also, what good would it do me to harm him?"
Peter was just suspicious but didn’t believe this conclusion. He said to his two bodyguards:
"Go and find him! Be sure to find Charlie!"
After Peter finished speaking, he pointed at Sean and said:
"You’re going to follow me! Oh, what’s in this box?"
It must not have any valuables if the box is able to be carried over.
"It may be spices left over from that time. They have all rotted."
Sean opened the box for Peter to see.
Although it was not gold or silver, Peter took Sean more seriously.
Others had searched for a long time and found nothing, but he had been here for only a few days and had already found two boxes.
Although they are not worth money, it must be said that this man is quite impressive.
It seems that Peter needs to study "Feng Shui" more closely!
Peter never trusts anyone. Only the power in his own hands is truly capabilities!
The people digging everywhere at the bay ultimately only salvaged half a silver coin. As for the others, they found nothing.
Peter was somewhat disappointed.
What disappointed him even more was that Charlie was ultimately not found.
In fact, Peter had given two orders to his subordinates – to search for any suspicious traces there.
But there wasn’t any.
Could it be that Charlie really went into the mountains in the center of the island?
