Chapter 1507: Chapter 718: Careless_2
"Which port? Are we going back?"
Sean Knight was about to nod, then suddenly shook his head and said,
"No, to that fishing port."
Fishing port?
Elijah Hastings paused for a moment, then realized—it was the same place where they had bought fish the day before.
What for?
However, since Sean Knight had spoken, he naturally followed orders. He started the yacht’s engine and headed for the fishing port.
The salvage ship had been watching them the entire time. When they saw that Sean Knight emerged without a diving suit, someone immediately reported it to the salvage ship captain.
They did not know when Sean Knight had entered the water—or rather, they had observed him diving earlier, but at that time, Sean Knight was wearing diving gear.
Now, a man without diving gear had surfaced, and then the yacht had left.
What was the reason? Was it the same as yesterday?
But it didn’t matter anymore; their departure was ideal as it did not interfere with their salvage operation.
The yacht quickly reached the fishing port. This time, however, Sean Knight did not disembark.
"Boss, the boat’s docked," Lincoln Harrington reported.
"You guys can leave one person on the yacht and the rest can go ashore if they wish, or stay onboard," Sean Knight, lying in bed, said:
"I need to rest here for one day, and then we’ll take action."
Sean Knight didn’t leave the boat, so Elijah Hastings and two others, Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington, discussed it: Douglas disembarked, while Elijah and Lincoln stayed aboard.
Douglas just wandered nearby and, after buying some seafood, returned to the yacht.
They didn’t know why Sean Knight wanted to come to this fishing port, but since Sean Knight had made the decision, there surely was a reason. As soon as Sean Knight had recovered, he would definitely tell them.
Sean Knight lay on the bed for a day and a night. When he woke up, the shift on watch had already changed. It was dark, and Elijah was on night duty.
Seeing Sean Knight wake up, Elijah exclaimed with delight:
"Boss, are you better?"
"Much better," Sean Knight smiled, "I was careless."
He was now completely healed. His energy had fully mended his injuries, but it also made him realize he had indeed been overly confident.
Had he not managed to pull out several weapon boxes to use as footholds in a timely manner, he would likely have ended up at the bottom of the sea by now.
A close call.
But thinking about what he had gained, it still seemed worthwhile. However, if there were a next time, he probably wouldn’t be so careless—tying the rope on the rocks wasn’t enough.
Even releasing a car from the spatial realm and tying the rope to it would have been more reliable than the rocks.
Of course, all this was in hindsight.
"So boss, what do we do now? Head back?"
"No, we’re not heading back," Sean Knight said. "I found a treasure map underwater and plan to check nearby for any clues."
Hearing about a treasure map made Elijah’s eyes light up, "Really?"
"It should be real," Sean Knight said. "Tomorrow at daybreak, we’ll all look it over together."
The treasure map’s lines were relatively simple; Sean Knight guessed it might be somewhere nearby based on the coastline.
But the map was very old and hard to decipher, so Sean Knight wanted to discuss it with everyone.
Money was no longer an issue for him, and he no longer had the desire to sneak off alone when he found something valuable.
Why not get rich together?
He and his three companions had been through life and death together for many years; now, whenever there was anything valuable, it was natural to share.
The yacht lights were on, about ten meters from the pier, mainly to prevent anyone from sneaking up.
Sean Knight stood on the deck, gazing at the stars in the sky, feeling his body functions running like new, then turned and headed back to the bedroom.
The next day dawned, and Sean Knight got up early and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
Douglas came over for his shift and was surprised to see Sean Knight making breakfast, but then he immediately came over to help with a smile.
"Boss, this time...it can’t be like this anymore."
"Don’t worry, it won’t happen again." Sean filled the bowl with the porridge he had made and said, "Thinking about it now still scares me."
Elijah and Lincoln soon arrived in the kitchen and were also surprised to see Sean cooking.
"Don’t be so surprised, let’s eat and then quickly analyze the treasure map." Sean smiled, "There’s big work ahead!"
"Treasure map?" Both Lincoln and Douglas were extremely surprised.
"Yes." Sean smiled, "I salvaged a treasure map from the sea—it’s from the person Cheryl mentioned. However, it’s not located on the small unnamed island we searched before. We need to study it further."
Lincoln remained calm, simply nodding, while Douglas was exceptionally surprised and excited.
More work to do!
Isn’t this just the kind of day I want?
The group hurriedly finished their breakfast. Lincoln handled the cleaning, while Sean and the others went to the "living room," sitting around a small tea table to begin studying the parchment treasure map.
The treasure map had a triangle indicated in cursive, followed by several curves.
Sean pointed at the longest line that crossed the entire map from top to bottom and said:
"I guess this curve is the coastline. The small black dots on the left are islands. The right side is land, and the left side is the sea, just like the map we are seeing now."
Elijah and Douglas closely examined the parchment, about the size of a 16-page paper, and eventually nodded in agreement.
After cleaning up, Lincoln also came over, took a look at the map, then took out his mobile phone and started searching on the map app.
"The text on this isn’t English," Sean said, "It looks neither modern Danish nor Norwegian. It must be some kind of writing from back then that has not been passed down.
However, since it’s alphabetic, we should be able to find it."
Douglas immediately took out his mobile phone to search, but after a long time, he found nothing.
"The coastline...it looks a bit like somewhere nearby." Suddenly, Lincoln spoke, "Just that the islands aren’t quite the same." He enlarged the image on his phone to show everyone, "Look here, this bend..."
Sean and Elijah leaned in closer to see and indeed, they found that the curve somewhat resembled the coast of the nearby bay as depicted on the parchment.
It was just similar.
But considering the mapping technology of that time, and as the parchment had no coordinates like latitude or longitude, "similar" was actually quite close.
"The islands back then were more numerous," Douglas noted, focusing on the small black dots. One of them marked with a triangle should be the target.
"That’s true," Elijah mused, stroking his chin.
"The location does look somewhat similar," Lincoln pointed at several larger islands on his phone, "They’re arranged in an inverted triangle, only the distances have changed a bit."
"Mapping back then definitely wasn’t as precise as it is now," Sean said, looking at the target point and then back at Lincoln’s phone on the tea table, which did not show the island at the target point.
An idea struck Sean, and he slapped his head:
"Could it be that the sea level has risen, submerging the island that was there at the time?"
"That’s possible!" Lincoln slapped his thigh, "Very possible!"
"Let’s compare it again, and if it’s close, let’s go take a look!"
The four of them compared one by one and finally confirmed that the location was the one Lincoln had found.
And from the fishing port nearby, it was about twenty sea miles.
With this calculation, the scale of the pirate’s treasure map was about one to 2,000.
After putting away the map, Elijah went to the driver’s cockpit, and Douglas collected the ropes, then the yacht, under the watchful eyes of the fishermen on nearby boats, carved a path through the waves and sped away in the sunshine.
"We’re almost there, have to slow down," Sean said, looking at the coastline and comparing it to the map, then spoke to Elijah, "If the island is in shallow waters, we need to be careful not to run aground or hit a reef."
Elijah slowed down, and Sean and the others came up to the deck, slowly guiding the yacht forward.
"The northernmost island should be that one!" Lincoln suddenly exclaimed, "It’s the biggest one on the map, but it’s much smaller now."
"We also have to be cautious of those working boats," Douglas suddenly said, "We’re still in their maritime territory."
Sean nodded.
"Found it!" Finally, Lincoln was the first to spot a trace of rocks occasionally peeking through the surface, "That must be the small island!"
