Road to becoming the wealthiest: Starting From Treasure Hunting in the Cabinets -
Chapter 150 - 149: Infiltration in Disguise
Chapter 150: Chapter 149: Infiltration in Disguise
Sean Knight’s sprouting whim was interrupted by a phone call from Robert.
"Have you found anything?" Sean Knight pulled his car to the side of the road and picked up the phone, asking this as his first question.
"We have found some information." Robert sounded a bit exhausted on the other end, "We meticulously examined Elson Johnson’s travel records and transactions for the past six months and finally found a speck of insignificant content."
"He once bought a detached house in the city suburb, visited once, and then rented it out to others."
"Two days ago, after we figured that out, we disguised ourselves as electricians and inspected the place but didn’t find anything unusual."
Robert seemed somewhat dejected, having finally discovered a clue but without it leading to any progress. It was as if the trail had grown cold again.
"The address, I will go check it out." Sean Knight’s interest was piqued, "There might be something worthwhile."
"Alright." Robert confessed candidly, "I thought as much. After all, you are now quite a well-known treasure hunter in the circle. With some luck, you just might find something Elson Johnson has hidden."
Sean Knight remained silent, all these people attributed his discoveries to good luck.
Fine, it could serve as a cover.
Sean Knight arrived at the city suburb following the address provided by Robert.
"That’s the courtyard?" Sean Knight stood shoulder to shoulder with Robert. Each held a cup of coffee in their hands and wore sunglasses, looking at the courtyard not far across.
"Yes."
Sean Knight looked skeptically at the place, that seemed no different from any other courtyards, but then again, it seemed plausible.
The grand hides in plain sight, and the humble hide in the wilderness.
Elson Johnson could not have allowed Jeremy Knight’s old subordinates to know where he hid things.
So, he must have made separate arrangements.
Could it be that he had long anticipated a day he might lose, or was he just making contingency plans and preparing multiple escape routes?
It doesn’t matter now.
"How do the people in the courtyard go about their daily lives?"
"A family of three, both parents go to work whilst the child goes to school."
"Who returns home first, the man or the woman?"
"The woman comes back first to pick up the child. The man comes home relatively late; he works at a software corporation."
"Alright, I’ll head over in the afternoon. What should I disguise myself as this time?"
"How about a natural gas repairman?" Robert had already thought of an identity.
In the afternoon, Sean Knight , carrying a toolbox, knocked on the door.
"You are..." The beautiful lady proprietor opened the door. Sean Knight saw a boy around eight playing with blocks in the living room.
"I’m a natural gas repairman, here for a routine check."
"Please come in." The mistress looked somewhat confused, but she opened the door nonetheless, "We use natural gas perfectly fine at home, only the pipes seem to be aging a little..."
Sean Knight put on a pair of shoe covers and stepped inside.
Noticing his "professional" manner, the mistress’s doubts dissolved as she led Sean Knight to the kitchen.
"Mom, can you help me build this?"
The boy’s voice rang out, and the mistress said, "Leo Boy, I’m busy over here, you keep building on your own."
Sean Knight put on a face mask and diligently began checking the pipelines and valves.
Seeing Sean Knight’s competent actions, the mistress fully relaxed and prepared to cook dinner.
The boy’s voice rang out again:
"Mom, I just can’t build it properly..."
At this point, Sean Knight pointed to another direction the pipe was leading and said:
"Madam, I need to check the pipeline over there."
"Alright, okay." The mistress agreed, and then said to the boy:
"Leo, this base is not sturdy..."
Sean Knight seized this opportunity to activate his Sky Eye and began scanning the house.
Nothing in the kitchen, nothing in the storage room, not in the neighboring room either... this was a children’s room.
Moving on, there were too many obstructions and the distance was quite far, Sean Knight couldn’t see clearly anymore.
The mistress had already helped the boy build the blocks properly and was heading back to the kitchen.
"Madam, I need to check the pipeline outside leading into the house."
"Sure, do you need any help?"
"Oh no, no need for that. Thank you."
Sean Knight stepped outside the courtyard, first checked on the pipeline, then walked to the place he couldn’t see from his previous location.
Nothing in the living room, nothing in the study room. Surprisingly there was a cellar in here - two of them!
Sean Knight had finally discovered something suspicious!
There are two cellars underground. The one accessible from the warehouse was filled with regular household junk, likely used by the family of three.
Then there was another cellar beneath the study room, and there were several boxes inside.
But, the cellar was dug too deep, so Sean Knight couldn’t see clearly from the courtyard.
He would have to find another way it seemed.
Knocking on the door and entering the house, Sean Knight told the mistress:
"I have completed the check, found no issues. Please sign here."
Sean Knight left the house, changed his clothes in the disguised car, and Robert asked from one side:
"How did it go? Was there anything unusual inside?"
"There is a slight issue, but I can’t confirm it yet." Sean Knight shook his head, "You guys keep investigating."
Robert also seemed somewhat disappointed, but it seemed reasonable.
Even if Sean Knight was highly skilled, dressing up as a maintenance worker allowed access only to limited areas.
But breaking into the place in the daytime was dangerously conspicuous. Even though the place is situated in the city suburb, the number of patrol Police Cars is not minor, criminal opportunities are hard to come by.
Leaving there, Sean Knight returned to the villa and immediately called Kathy Lewis over.
"I need you to find someone to buy a courtyard. Don’t use my name." Sean Knight spoke, "Once everything is done, sell the courtyard - preferably without leaving any trace of our involvement."
For the mastermind who had framed him, Sean Knight would relish seeing Elson Johnson’s reactions on finding himself penniless after being released from prison.
Though Kathy Lewis found it somewhat strange, she still accepted the task.
Upon receiving the address of the courtyard, she proceeded to look into it.
Soon enough, Kathy Lewis discovered that the courtyard was under a false name, purchased by Elson Johnson.
Frankly speaking, Kathy Lewis didn’t much like Elson Johnson, she preferred Sean Knight.
Because Sean Knight was more like Jeremy Knight.
Though Elson Johnson, too, possesses yellow skin and black hair, he is overly deceitful and adept at disguising.
But now, with Sean Knight attempting to choke Elson Johnson’s escape routes, Kathy Lewis was hesitant.
After all, Elson Johnson was Jeremy Knight’s adopted son.
However, in the end, Kathy Lewis still decided to go through with the task.
Since she had resolved to get back to her original place, it was unnecessary to consider other factors.
The key to purchasing the courtyard quickly came down to raising the price.
Elson Johnson had purchased this house under a false name. Kathy Lewis paid the management department to declare that the original owner of the courtyard did not exist. Then, through various means, she bought the house.
Don’t think for a moment that the authorities are incorruptible here. As long as one has the channel, they will be greedy.
Sean Knight still had a lot of money he could mobilize, so he wasn’t averse to spending a bit more just to get things done.
The renter family of three also found an appropriate place to rent.
Even a good moving company was found for them, free of charge.
The family of three were quite satisfied, thinking that the new homeowner was kind, and they even regretted a little that they could not be the new homeowner’s tenants.
The day after the tenants moved out, Sean Knight went to the courtyard alone.
He unlocked the house, made a round through all the rooms, and came to the study room after failing to find any other concealed rooms.
Having the advantage of the Sky Eye, he quickly discovered the secret door leading to the cellar.
