Chapter 1499: Chapter 714 This Is to Disgust Me! _2
In this place, the seafloor canyon was nearly a hundred meters deep-the data previously seen on the yacht wasn’t very accurate.
The submarine was about forty meters long, with a diameter of only five or six meters, resembling a small fish in the deep-water trench.
Probably due to the impact of the ocean current, the front part of the submarine facing the current was dark and covered with a metallic luster, while the tail was encrusted with various shellfish, coated with a thick layer of their own.
Sean Knight originally wanted to go down and see if he could directly collect the submarine.
But looking at the currents in the canyon, which were completely different from the seawater on the surface, he hesitated and picked up a stone from the seabed at his feet and threw it down.
The basketball-sized stone was instantly swept away by the current for several meters!
The speed of the current was indeed fast!
Obviously, Sean Knight couldn’t go down himself now, and even if he were to go down, he would need help-but if he were to collect things from the submarine, there couldn’t be anyone nearby.
Unable to approach the submarine, Sean Knight had to open the Sky Eye and looked toward the submarine.
The surface of the submarine seemed to have no issues, but inside it was filled with water, with several cracks, so the interior water flow was active, and anything that could be carried away by the water had long been washed clean.
However, the submarine merely had cracks and wasn’t leaking like a sieve, so the water flow inside wasn’t fierce. If the outside current was as turbulent as a great river, then the inside current was like a little brook.
Therefore, several big-headed octopuses "lived" inside, and they were permanent residents by now.
These octopuses occasionally extended their tentacles through the cracks, capturing passing creatures, reminiscent of the saying "waiting for the hare at the stump of a tree."
Although the current was turbulent, the mixed marine life within was plentiful, so the octopuses weren’t worried about starvation.
After glancing over these creatures, Sean Knight looked towards other items.
The tail of the submarine was stuck with a good deal of human bones-most likely the staff from the submarine originally, but now only a few bones remained.
Pieces of boxes were also concentrated at the tail of the submarine, obviously swept there by the current.
Among these remains that hadn’t been carried away by the water flow, there was a good deal of gold and silver jewelry, along with some other precious metals.
This got Sean Knight immediately excited.
Clearly, this was a submarine transporting treasures, but it was uncertain why it had sunk here, and even in such a rapid current, it somehow didn’t break apart!
Sean Knight continued to look towards the front of the submarine and found that there too was a large quantity of gold and silver, with plenty of space still available.
Of course, by space he meant the cargo hold.
Sean Knight had reason to believe that there were originally documents or paper items, like oil paintings or documents of some sort, but they had disappeared under the scouring of the current.
Then Sean Knight’s Sky Eye was dazzled for a moment!
In the center of the cargo hold, there stood a gigantic Bronze Statue—a Dragon!
Sean Knight knew that the largest known bronze dragon statue in the world at present was housed in the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which was cast during the Warring States period, excavated in Hebei, and later lost overseas.
The bronze dragon statue he saw now seemed more detailed, longer, and slightly newer in age.
The dragon revealed in Sean Knight’s Sky Eye was cast during the Qin Dynasty, and was originally black in color, although now, only patches of black remained due to the scouring of the current.
This dragon was even larger than the other, and it had a base of its own.
More importantly, the dragon radiated with a strong spiritual energy!
Sean Knight could feel a power of belief and an even more majestic force within it!
What kind of power it was, Sean Knight still did not know—he had never encountered this type of spiritual energy before.
So Sean Knight was very eager to have such spiritual energy!
However, regrettably, looking at the raging underwater current, he dared not go into the water.
He felt that if he went down there, perhaps he could collect the submarine, but he himself would be swept away by the current, and where he might end up was difficult to say.
If he was really washed into deeper waters, the pressure would be too great and could crush him to death, which would be a major loss indeed.
Therefore, Sean Knight could only watch dryly, unable to go down.
But he was not content!
Sean Knight suddenly had an idea. The ocean current couldn’t be constant, could it? If it kept washing away like this, after several decades of erosion, the submarine should have been scattered long ago, right?
As soon as he thought of this, Sean began to observe carefully.
With his observation, he indeed noticed something significant.
Under the scouring of the current, the submarine was actually moving backward bit by bit. However, the distance it moved was very small, just a few centimeters in 10 minutes, which made it difficult to detect.
The main clue came from the marks the submarine had made on the seafloor canyon as it passed; one pass of the current could move the submarine several tens of meters.
Calculated in this way, the distance of seven or eight meters would be covered in one day and one night, meaning several tens of meters would require five or six days.
At the moment, since the scouring marks were not very distinct, he could only roughly estimate the current had been washing over it for three to four days.
Does that mean, in four or five days, the current might stop?
Of course, this was just Sean’s guess. To understand the actual situation, careful observation and some luck were needed.
After observing carefully for a while, Sean concluded that the current was unlikely to stop any time soon and began to float upward slowly.
He planned to come down every day to check, thinking that if the current were to stop, it wouldn’t just stop for a few minutes, would it?
With that thought, Sean floated up to the yacht with peace of mind.
He had been underwater for more than an hour. When Douglas Cooper saw him upon surfacing, the look of relief on his face was immediately apparent to Sean.
"Don’t worry, I won’t put myself in danger," Sean said as he boarded the deck, joking while he removed his equipment, "I’m far too fond of my life."
"That’s good, that’s good," Douglas laughed, though he was still quite worried.
After all, the ocean was not like land; no one could say for sure what dangers lurked beneath.
Watching the light of dawn in the east, Sean felt a tad sleepy. After a quick rinse, he lay down in his bed and fell asleep.
When Sean woke up again, he heard Elijah Hastings and the others talking on the deck.
"...we should wait until the boss wakes up and ask then. Who would have thought they’d pull off something like this..."
"It must be the work of those on the salvage ship; it’s like a toad lusting after a swan’s meat—a complete nuisance!"
"It shouldn’t affect us too much. At worst, we change locations. They can’t follow us forever, right?"
"The issue is our supplies; we only have enough fuel for two more days, then we’ll have to dock at Port to resupply..."
Sean got up, rubbed his face, and walked out.
Elijah and the other two on the deck greeted Sean, who responded briefly, his gaze sweeping the surroundings.
Clearly, he saw it too.
Without knowing when, several boats had gathered around: there were large fishing boats, cargo ships, and research vessels.
The one closest to the yacht was roughly 200 meters away, and Sean found it familiar; it must be an ocean salvage ship.
Damn it!
Now Sean understood what Elijah and the others had been discussing.
These ships were very likely brought here by yesterday’s salvage ship. Or rather, they had spread the word and attracted these people.
Sean Knight gave a wry smile; it was probably because his own fame had grown too large.
Would he have to change his identity and disguise himself to go treasure hunting from now on?
But this meant the situation with the submarine in the canyon below had to be planned out properly.
If the salvage ship nearby found it first, that would be a major problem.
After all, they were professionals; as soon as they found the submarine, they would surely salvage it.
It seemed Sean needed to dive again, and quickly.
He had already seen that people on the opposing salvage ship were organizing their equipment, preparing to dive.
He couldn’t wait any longer!
