Chapter 1496: Chapter 713: A Treasure Hunt Full of Twists and Turns
"Boss, should we drop anchor here?" Elijah Hastings poked his head out from the cockpit and asked.
"Let’s just wait and see for now." The yacht’s engine had stopped working, and Sean Knight hadn’t sensed the presence of the ocean, so whether they dropped anchor or not didn’t make much of a difference. He planned to observe a little longer.
"Boss, there’s a boat coming!" At that moment, Douglas Cooper, who was on top of the yacht, shouted while holding a telescope.
Sean Knight looked in the direction pointed out by Douglas Cooper and saw that it was a work boat—similar to the Marine police or patrol vessels.
Sean Knight immediately turned to Lincoln Harrington and asked,
"Are we in international waters or a neighboring country’s territorial sea right now?"
Lincoln Harrington took out his mobile phone to check and said,
"We are on the boundary between international waters and another country’s maritime territory... it’s difficult to distinguish."
"Damn it!" Sean Knight shook his head and said, "Prepare to start the engine; we might not be able to hunt for treasure here after all."
A few minutes later, the work boat stopped nearby the yacht.
Someone from the boat’s staff started shouting through a loudspeaker.
Sean Knight could tell that the general message was asking what they were doing here, stating that this was Norwegian waters, and requesting all aboard Sean Knight’s yacht to come on deck for inspection.
All four men were on deck, and the yacht’s engine had stopped. A small boat was lowered from the work vessel, and it approached the yacht. A man and a woman, both staff members, boarded the yacht.
Both of these individuals were quite tall, nearly as tall as Sean Knight, at around 1.8 meters, with belts around their waists holding various tools and weapons for self-defense.
"Where do you come from?" Seeing that all four of them had Asian faces, the woman asked first.
Sean Knight could tell from her tone that it wasn’t very polite.
"We come from China, here for tourism."
"Whose yacht is this?"
Lincoln Harrington handed over the yacht’s documents, and Sean Knight was beginning to regret not having Delton Suweton send someone along. If someone had come with them, communication would have been a lot easier.
Sure enough, when they saw that the yacht belonged to the Swedish Royal Family, the expressions of the male and female staff members changed slightly. The man went to make a phone call, while the woman kept her gaze on Sean Knight.
Sean Knight immediately sensed trouble. In the woman’s eyes, he could see that she was highly wary of him—had she recognized him?
"Mr. Sean Knight? Please state your true purpose here!"
Just as he thought!
Sean Knight touched his face, knowing that he couldn’t hide the truth, and said,
"I heard this was once a famous pirate’s hiding place for treasure, so I came to see."
Since he had been recognized, denying it would be futile. If they knew what he was doing and he claimed he had come to see the scenery, who would believe that?
"This is Norwegian maritime territory, and everything in the sea belongs to Norway! So please, Mr. Knight, leave this area..."
The woman spoke with a serious and authoritative tone, but perhaps sensing that she had been too harsh, or maybe because she felt the need to show some respect to the real owner of the yacht, she softened her tone and said,
"We welcome Mr. Knight to tour here, but if it’s to search for treasure illegally on the seafloor, then we must enforce the law against Mr. Knight..."
"Alright, we’ll leave," Sean Knight nodded. There was no choice; being caught in the act, there was no way to stay. And Sean Knight wasn’t the type to stubbornly argue when in the wrong.
Moreover, this was the boundary between international waters and territorial sea. Just a few hundred meters out would bring them into international waters, and then no one could interfere.
The man and woman left the yacht, and Sean Knight and his crew headed out to sea.
The work boat watched as Sean Knight’s yacht moved towards the open sea, yet they had no way to intervene. Once in international waters, whatever Sean Knight and his crew wanted to do was beyond their control.
Being at the boundary between maritime territory and international waters, if Sean Knight had really stirred up trouble there, it would have been a headache for them.
After all, the yacht belonged to the Swedish Royal Family. The fact that Sean Knight could borrow it meant there was respect involved. If they were too strict and caused Sean Knight to invoke the Swedish Royal Family, it would be their own discomfort.
Now that Sean Knight and his party were leaving, it actually caused the staff to respect Sean Knight a bit more—even with connections and being a billionaire, he hadn’t been unreasonable.
They sailed out almost eight hundred meters before the yacht stopped again.
The work boat had seen this but now couldn’t chase them away.
Sean Knight no longer cared about the work boat; he was certain they were now in international waters. As he had sailed here, his "Sky Eye" had been active the whole time. There were indeed sunken ships below, but all that were visible were a few fishing boats—the newer ones were from decades ago, and the older ones, centuries ago had nearly rotted away.
After all, compared to the coastlines of China, this place was quite barren. Had it not been for the rise of the Great Voyages in the Middle Ages, with Europeans of pirate descent plundering the wealth of Asia and the America, how could this place have prospered?
The locals claimed to be descendants of the Vikings—what were the Vikings, if not pirates? Brazenly venerating their pirate ancestors as divine now—what was that about?
Just barbarians.
Looking around, only the previous stopping place seemed the most likely.
But now the work boat was still patrolling at a distance, obviously worried about Sean Knight’s yacht making a quick return. Sean Knight gritted his teeth and said,
"Let’s keep the yacht here, and I’ll go down to have a look."
The three companions weren’t about to let Sean Knight dive in alone; they stopped him immediately. The best swimmer among them, Douglas Cooper, donned the diving gear and plunged into the water.
