Chapter 1464: 702
"What should we do? Blind Hahem said there’s more than one person with a gun on that yacht, and they’re carrying standard-issue rifles that aren’t just any ordinary people’s!"
On the work boat, a man with thick lips and curly hair spoke anxiously, holding a telescope, "Are we just going to watch them take the goods away?"
Without using the telescope, he had seen that the other party had already salvaged something valuable.
"What do you suggest we do?" The man holding the telescope was tall and thin with a light complexion and gray eyes, clearly of mixed heritage. He put down the telescope and turned to his companion, "Do you have a good plan?"
"Why don’t we wait until nightfall...?" Curly Hair’s face showed a fierce determination, "These guys work hard during the day and will definitely rest at night. Even if someone is keeping watch, we could sneak under the boat and rig it with explosives..."
The tall man nodded:
"That’s not a bad idea... I’ll give you the explosives. You take two men and handle it. If you succeed, you’ll get a 50% bonus when we return from this trip!"
"I got it!" Curly Hair immediately replied.
He dared to make the suggestion because the boss on this boat wasn’t stingy with money; if the job was done well, there would definitely be a hefty reward.
On the yacht’s side, Sean Knight dived back into the water and salvaged another box of porcelain from the market ruins. Although the Sea Salvaged Porcelain wasn’t worth much, the team members treasured it, so Sean took it as a chance to relax underwater.
Meanwhile, a group of team members who had not found anything earlier hit the jackpot, digging out a small box of silver ingots from the ruins. Although the ingots had oxidized and turned black, their overall condition was still decent.
For dinner, aside from the provisions they brought, there was also seafood that team members had casually salvaged while searching for other items. Sean and his team always paid attention to their meals when conditions allowed.
Despite being adrift at sea, the meal felt like a feast on land.
"Boss, should we continue tonight?" Douglas Cooper asked while eating his meal.
"You guys rest. I’ll go down and take a look tonight," Sean said, "But make sure to stay vigilant. Keep the radar on at all times. I bet those guys won’t just back off so easily!"
"Boss, don’t worry about that!" Douglas boasted, "If they dare to come, we’ll definitely be ready to receive them!"
Sean was reassured.
"We should still move the yacht further out," Lincoln Harrington suggested, "That way, if the other side tries to pull something, it will take them some time, and we’ll be ready here."
"We could send the drone directly above their work boat tonight, perfect for our night watchman to keep an eye on things. If anything happens, we’ll see it right away!" Elijah Hastings also spoke up.
"Good idea." Sean had only thought about using cruise missiles to stir up trouble but forgot that the drone they brought along could also be used. However, he was still worried and asked:
"How long can the drone stay airborne? What’s the noise like?"
"High-definition infrared cameras, can stay airborne for an hour and a half. At three hundred meters high, the noise is about the same as a bird chirping..."
"Fine, that’s decent! We can do it in shifts!"
This time, Sean really felt at ease.
Standing on the deck, he looked around and noticed that the lights were still on in the direction of the work boat, but the fishing boat was now eerily quiet.
Under the surveillance of Sky Eye, he saw that several fishing boats had a good amount of goods piled up on the deck; it seemed they had a profitable haul.
One of the fishing boats had set sail, apparently ready to return home.
It made sense, given that the fishing boat was small and couldn’t carry much.
But Sean also noticed that they were mostly bulky wooden items—much of the city’s infrastructure had been made of wood that didn’t rot underwater. Over the years, these pieces of wood had become precious materials.
After the fishing boat left, the sea territory became even quieter.
A light breeze rose, waves gently lapped against the hull, and seeing that the time was right, Sean put on his diving suit, strapped on the oxygen tank, and quietly entered the water.
Underwater was calm, but not as silent as the sea surface above, with various sea creatures swimming about, foraging, playing, and migrating...
Only after descending close to the seafloor did Sean slowly head towards the ruins of the Lord’s Manor, his target.
As he journeyed on, the seawater grew shallower, with the shallowest part being around thirty meters.
A trench about thirty meters wide and seven or eight meters deeper than the surrounding seafloor appeared before him. This trench was about three hundred meters from the yacht and a little over 500 meters from the work boat—this was after the yacht had moved back.
Sean guessed that the trench was created by an earthquake-induced sea crack that should have been deeper once but had slowly filled in over time.
The trench was now covered in seaweed and teeming with fish, devoid of its initial terrifying appearance.
The seabed rose from low to high around him, suggesting that the Lord’s Manor had been built on higher ground.
Although almost every place was covered by a layer of seafloor sediment, the area beneath him had many rocks, clearly indicating the noble district near the Lord’s Manor.
With Sky Eye enabled, Sean could see valuable goods still preserved under some rocks.
Some areas even had signs of digging, indicating that the work boat at the surface had already reached this area.
A few fish about a foot long seemed quite interested in Sean, following him as he swam forward. A sea turtle lazily swam past, not afraid of Sean, the large intruder.
A small shark darted towards him, causing the group of following fish to scatter in panic. The shark, only about a meter long, chased after the fish, acting as if Sean did not exist at all.
