Chapter 1437: Chapter 692: Where There’s Something Unusual, There’s a Demon_2
Sam Baker just smiled and said nothing.
Yenia, not minding, continued saying,
"Your boss is really lucky! For ivory like this, those customers would be fighting to get it!"
Once we arrived at the campground, we just placed the ivory next to the woolly rhino from earlier, and no one bothered with it anymore. Everyone bathed if they needed to bathe, changed clothes if they needed to change clothes.
After changing, Viola came to find Yenia. The two of them sat in front of the tent chatting—Yenia found the whole setup, with a small stool and a folding table in front of the tent, quite fascinating.
Especially since there was also a pot of hot, steaming black tea on it, which really was the cherry on top.
She felt that her past experiences were truly like hell. This current lifestyle, even if she had to dig for ivory every single day, she’d be fine with it!
Food was taken care of, drinks were available, and the tent even had heating. Though there were many strong men around, no one harassed her.
It was really fantastic!
After a while, Sean Knight came over and sat next to Viola. Viola poured him a cup of tea with a smile, Sean Knight gently patted her hand, and then he said to Yenia,
"I’ve heard from Sam Baker that you’ve also researched the price of this ivory?"
"Yes," Yenia replied, keeping a respectful distance from the young man from China. Being able to command the obedience of so many people like Sam Baker indicated he must have some exceptional qualities.
She wouldn’t let her guard down or get closer to him just because he was Viola’s boyfriend. She had heard the joke Sean Knight told his team members, though clearly Yenia tended to think it was a sweetener for his subordinates, using herself as the bait.
However, when it came to ivory appraisal, Yenia felt that she could still call herself an expert in front of these people.
She nodded and said,
"Although I’ve only been mining ivory for one season, I did a large amount of research and study beforehand, and also made comparisons during the excavation process. At least in terms of the sale price of these ivories, the prices I provide are quite fair."
"Then, let’s set your piece of ivory at 30,000 dollars, the price you quoted," Sean Knight said, taking out a stack of cash and placing it on the table, then pushing it towards Yenia:
"This is fifteen thousand dollars, your share."
Yenia didn’t expect Sean Knight to just directly give her her share of the money!
She was somewhat surprised and stuttered when she spoke,
"But... the ivory hasn’t been sold yet, right? I only made a rough estimate... It might not necessarily be that amount..."
"No problem," Sean Knight said with a smile, "I don’t plan to sell these pieces of ivory; I want to transport them to another base of mine. There, I have a carving and processing factory, and I plan to have these pieces of ivory worked on there."
Sean Knight also did his research occasionally. A single piece of ivory raw material costs several tens of thousands of dollars, but once carved, it can fetch several hundred thousand to a million dollars. Why let others earn the difference in margin?
"Alright, you two chat," Sean Knight said, gently patting Viola, and added with a smile, "Take a break for now, we have to continue tomorrow."
He paused, then continued,
"Of course, if you think fifteen thousand dollars is enough for you, you can choose to leave with that."
After saying that, Sean Knight turned and walked away.
Yenia felt like she was dreaming.
This was truly beyond her understanding and imagination.
Whether it was working with the Diggers before or temporarily teaming up to steal mammoth ivory, the process of making money was pretty painful.
The search was distressing, finding and excavating was somewhat easier, but the selling process was also painful.
Just like farmers selling agricultural products, the pricing power was in someone else’s hands. They may have dug up something valuable, but could only submit to others pressing down the price.
Now she actually had the pricing power!
Looking at the fifteen thousand dollars by her hand, Yenia felt as if she were in a dream!
It took her a while to come to her senses, and then she counted out five thousand dollars and handed it to Viola:
"This is for you, thank you for agreeing to let me come over..."
"No, no, no," Viola hurriedly waved her hands, "I don’t want it, I have plenty of money... I really don’t need it, you need it more than I do."
"You have plenty of money?" Yenia asked, puzzled.
"Yeah," Viola said, somewhat proudly and a bit shyly, "He... he gave me a lot of money, along with many valuable pieces of jewelry, diamonds... "
Yenia was surprised. Aren’t diamonds a kind of jewelry too?
It wasn’t until Viola pulled out a rough diamond the size of a finger that she finally understood why Viola had differentiated the two!
Well, it seems this fifteen thousand dollars wasn’t much for someone like Sean Knight.
Dinner was quite sumptuous. The cooks were the ones rotating out to mine ivory. Those who couldn’t go mining could look for food in the jungle. Yenia was quite curious about the "found" ingredients by the cooks.
After all, there was deer meat, fish, wild vegetables, and the abundant food brought along.
Compared to gnawing on dry Russian bread with the temporary squad members before, it was heaven and hell!
The second day, the search for ivory was still divided.
This day still yielded nothing. But nobody seemed to mind too much.
If the stuff littered the whole beach, that would truly be a problem.
Yenia was initially a bit embarrassed, thinking about contributing to the food expenses or something.
After all, she didn’t pay for food and accommodation and was given her share of the money so transparently and openly. She felt somewhat uneasy about taking it.
Even in the Diggers squad, which she considered very fair, she still had to pay for equipment.
