Chapter 1436: Chapter 692: Where There’s Something Abnormal, There Must Be A Demon

Sam Baker didn’t report the discovery of the mammoth ivory by Yenia immediately to Sean Knight.

He first went to the location Yenia pointed out, observing carefully.

Indeed, from that angle, a bony tip was exposed—it was just particularly small, about the size of a fist.

"Are you saying this is mammoth ivory?" Sam Baker turned to ask Yenia.

"Definitely, and it must be a large piece of ivory!" Yenia said with conviction, "Look at this conical tip, from here you can tell the size of the ivory.

Based on my experience excavating ivory this year, such a large conical tip indicates the ivory inside is at least two meters long!"

At the moment, the two were standing in front of a seaside cliff about five or six meters high, with the conical bony tip about one meter above the ground.

Hearing Yenia’s words, Sam took over the shovel from her hands and started to dig around the ivory.

The cliffside was sandy and mixed with ice; Sam’s strength was considerable, and he quickly dug out a pit around the ivory.

About ten centimeters of the ivory was exposed, and indeed it was much thicker behind.

Seeing its color was quite nice, Sam nodded, smiled at Yenia, and said,

"Indeed, you’re in luck, the haul this time could be quite substantial!"

Yenia was also very happy.

At least for now, her choice seemed to be the right one.

"Come on, give me the tools, I’m better at digging this thing!" Yenia took the tools from Sam’s hands and started digging.

Sam smiled and spoke into the walkie-talkie:

"Captain Hastings, Captain Hastings! This is Sam Baker, this is Sam Baker."

"Received, Sam, what’s up?" Elijah Hastings’s voice came through, mixed with the cheerful voices of team members.

"I’ve found a large piece of ivory here, in the permafrost layer. Yenia estimates it could be over two meters long."

"Really?" Elijah’s voice carried a smile, "It seems Yenia is indeed quite skilled. Do you need more help over there?"

Sam turned to Yenia, who was digging:

"Yenia, do you need reinforcement here? I think it will take more than a while for you to dig out this ivory. You might end up spending the whole day here."

"Isn’t it that you could help me?" Yenia found the Chinese man quite agreeable at the moment, and said with a smile, "You and I can dig together, and once the ivory is out, your boss, you, and I can divide it into three parts, one for each."

Sam was momentarily taken aback, surprised at Yenia’s words.

Yenia added another explanation:

"The two of us should be able to dig it out today; no need for others to come and share the money."

"Share the money? What are you thinking?" Sam finally understood Yenia’s intention, and said with a laugh, "Our boss will pay us.

The fifty-fifty split agreed upon by the boss and you stands, no matter how many people come to help you dig, or even if you don’t dig now and we do it for you, it’s still a fifty-fifty split. Got it?"

Yenia got it, paused, and seemed to not quite grasp it.

Was it really like that?

Sam shook his head; the woman was pretty enough but a bit too petty at times.

However, Sam soon realized that this woman might have been treated like this in her previous team.

So he said to Yenia, "I can’t help you dig. You encountered a bear earlier, which means there could be dangerous animals nearby. If we both are busy digging and something suddenly attacks, it could be troublesome. Let’s call for more people."

Having said that, he spoke into the walkie-talkie:

"Captain Hastings, Captain Hastings, send two people over. The ivory is quite big."

"All right, let me know your location."

Sam reported the location, and Elijah quickly sent people over.

Sam, carrying a gun, patrolled the surrounding area, while Yenia was still surprised.

Was it really like that?

This differed from her own understanding!

However, being in someone else’s territory, Yenia, despite her doubts, didn’t feel it was appropriate to express them, just waiting to see what would happen.

Half an hour later, two team members were digging out the ivory with Yenia.

The team members were very careful in their excavation, and listened to Yenia’s advice— in their eyes, Yenia was the expert in this field with abundant experience, and following her lead was naturally the right thing to do.

About two hours later, a large piece of ivory about 2.45 meters in length was dug out. The ivory was broken at the base, a solitary piece without a mammoth’s skull or the other tooth.

The ivory, wedged between the permafrost and soil layers, was of decent quality. Yenia said, smiling:

"This ivory could probably sell for around 30,000 dollars."

Earning fifteen thousand dollars in two days felt incredibly satisfying!

Two team members carried the ivory back, and both Yenia and Sam headed back as well. With today’s find, she decided not to continue searching.

Two wolves appeared at the boundary between the forest and the beach, but seeing so many people around here, they retreated back into the forest.

"It’s really quite dangerous," Yenia remarked upon seeing the two wolves. Now she held a newfound respect for what Sam said earlier, along with some fear.

If Sam had indeed listened to her, spent the time digging with her, and then got ambushed by a pack of wolves, they could have been killed.

Back at the campground, Sean Knight’s team had also excavated a small tusk, but while the tusk was smaller, it was much higher in quality coming out of the ice. Judging by its appearance, the texture was far superior!

"That ivory could sell for at least 60,000 dollars," Yenia whispered to Sam, "such high-quality ivory, you don’t come across it many times in a year!"
