Chapter 1429: Chapter 689 Heading to the New Battlefield_3

Then they started to set up the pot to cook, and Elijah Hastings approached Sean Knight and said,

"Boss, I’ll take two team members to look around and see if we can hunt something."

"Which direction are you headed?" Sean asked.

"East."

"Alright, I’ll check the north," Sean replied.

"I’ll come with you," Viola immediately followed, "It’s better with two people."

"Okay," Sean smiled.

Viola’s initiative made Sean think that the girl actually was quite sensible—despite her young age.

The two walked leisurely toward the north.

Being near the Arctic Ocean coast, the air carried a briny bitterness and a thick chill.

Even though Viola had worn quite thick clothing, the sea breeze still made her shiver.

If she hadn’t spent a lot of time with Sean, whose spiritual energy had slightly altered her body, she probably would have been trembling now.

Sean looked at Viola, realizing she must be feeling cold, so he took her hand.

Viola was a bit puzzled but then she understood.

Sean’s hand was surprisingly warm, and then she felt a stream of warmth flowing through, warming her up in no time!

It was magical!

Sean led Viola around the area. He had looked up information when Viola mentioned coming here to dig for mammoth ivory. Ivory wasn’t always found right by the coast; it could also be in the jungle not far from the shore.

Regarding the quality, ivory is sorted into three types, with the best being "ice ivory," which means the whole mammoth is frozen in ice, preserving the quality of the tusks the best.

The next best is "permafrost ivory," as the name suggests, dug from the permafrost layer, also decently preserved.

The worst is "soil ivory," dug straight from the mud. This type of ivory’s enamel has already been damaged, similar to the poor quality jadeite found in the industry—it just doesn’t look good.

So, Sean planned to wander around the area.

From what he had learned, several million to tens of thousands of years ago, this place wasn’t as cold, which supported a large population of mammoths, and that’s why so many tusks were later found here.

With a permafrost layer and muddy soil nearby, Sean intended to look for any tracks. If they found some, they would start digging right away; if not, they would broaden their search area.

However, after wandering around and hearing gunshots from the east, Sean didn’t find anything underground. There were a few small animal species, but no mammoths.

"Let’s head back, I’m hungry," Sean said, pulling Viola along.

When the two returned to the campground, Elijah and his group had also just brought back a rather small deer. By that time, the team members who had stayed behind had nearly finished cooking the dishes.

Outside was too cold, so a tent served as the dining hall. Sean motioned for Viola to go into the mobile home, but she didn’t comply, instead helping Elijah and the others skin the deer, unbothered by getting blood on her hands.

Since the food was almost ready, the cooks only cut a piece of meat for braising, planning to cook the rest in the evening.

The unwanted parts of the deer, such as the innards, were directly taken several hundred meters downwind from the campground to be discarded, while the rest was sectioned off for various uses.

After all, for the Chinese people, every part of a deer is a treasure, and there are many parts worth keeping.

After the food was ready, Sean and the others ate inside the tent, then prepared to rest.

The afternoon was spent not going out. Although they had been traveling at a slow pace, it was now time to rest and sort out their tools.

Viola managed to contact her friend only later that evening.

"They are located more than fifty kilometers away on the coastline," Viola said after putting down her mobile phone, "They found some ivory and are currently digging it up. She’s asking if we want to go over..."

"Let’s not go for now," Sean waved his hand, "Since we’re here, let’s try finding it on our own first."

Viola nodded and didn’t say much.

That night, Viola and Sean stayed inside the mobile home. The other team members who were tenting took turns being sentries and were armed with loaded guns.

The main reason was that the deer, having been killed, would attract wild animals due to its strong smell of blood.

Indeed, at midnight, near where they had discarded the deer innards, the sound of beasts roaring arose.

There was considerable noise, and Sean, inside the mobile home, heard it too, but he didn’t get up.

With so many armed people outside, even if a Siberian Tiger showed up, they weren’t afraid.

The roaring sounds varied, leading Sean to guess that perhaps wild animals were fighting over the food.

Fortunately, the noise didn’t last long, so Sean and the others went back to sleep.

They had a good night’s sleep.

Early the next day, Sean got up while Viola was still half-asleep.

The day had already dawned; although it was perpetual daylight in the Arctic, the sun wasn’t high.

The team members had already started cooking, Sean touched Viola gently, got dressed, and stepped out of the mobile home.

The fresh air filled with a chill entered his lungs, instantly waking him up.

After breakfast, Sean and his team began to spread out, grouping in teams of five, heading towards the coast.

Sean and his team were intent on finding the best ice ivory since they were there.

Good quality ice ivory is found right by the coast.

The coastline here wasn’t flat; it had huge stones, ice, and beaches full of mud.

Even though Sean and his team members were well wrapped up, truth be told, they still felt the bone-chilling cold.

Sean and Elijah weren’t bothered by the cold, but with Viola by his side, Sean held her hand and then activated Sky Eye, starting to scan.

The team members spread out, holding their tools, occasionally searching through some ice and soil.

If the item was buried underground, it truly was hard to find. Sean and his team’s intent was to see if there was any ivory partially exposed and undiscovered, as that would be easier to locate.

Of course, Sean mainly relied on his Sky Eye to search.

Sure enough, it didn’t take long before his Sky Eye spotted a find.

A find even bigger than mammoth ivory!
