Chapter 1428: Chapter 689: Rushing to the New Battlefield_2

"Okay, well, we can keep using the equipment we’ve prepared all over Siberia later on," Sean Knight said offhandedly.

He understood that if Elijah Hastings said so, the prepared items must definitely be worth much more than a few mammoth tusks.

However, this trip was mainly for fun and relaxation, and the items they prepared were not for one-time use. It was naturally cold here, so once everything was ready, they could potentially exploit other opportunities in Siberia in the future.

At least for now, the castle here could serve as a secondary base for themselves. "Keeping equipment here? No problem!"

While Elijah Hastings took care of the preparations, Sean Knight and the others had nothing specific to do but hang around two places, occasionally heading to the city, but mostly staying in the castle.

During this period, Douglas Cooper had called twice, selling some diamonds and raking in several million dollars.

Sean Knight had grown accustomed to this, telling him to keep changing locations so that no one could pin him down.

One week later, Elijah Hastings told Sean Knight they could depart.

The mining site managed by Lincoln Harrington had already started operations. The first day saw the extraction of over one hundred carats of diamonds, the largest over ten carats, marking a decent haul.

Sean Knight and his team then headed north with the convoy.

The primary locations for digging mammoth tusks were along the coast of the Arctic Ocean in Siberia and within the permafrost layers on the islands. Only in such places could the remains of mammoths from ten to tens of thousands of years ago be preserved.

The main excavation sites for mammoth ivory were in Siberia and Alaska. Over ninety percent of these tusks eventually ended up in China, where they were carved into large ornaments or small decorative items based on their shape and quality.

A well-preserved piece of quality ivory might take years of manual sculpting before its value could rise from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars, increasing to worth up to a million dollars.

Such expensive items, of course, weren’t just about the raw material, but also about the craftsmanship.

Ghost Work Ball—that thing made ordinary people dizzy just looking at it, imagining how skillful those old craftsmen must have been!

Sean Knight and his group continued north along the highway, and the weather grew colder.

"Now is the perfect season to dig for mammoth ivory," Viola said. "It’s the only time of the year it’s possible. After a while, when it gets colder, the ground will freeze, and digging will be impossible."

Sean Knight nodded, understandingly. One certainly can’t dig through ice.

The farther north they went, the more desolate it became. The terrain was flat, and the forests were sparse. At first, they occasionally saw villages, but further on, they might drive for hundreds of kilometers without spotting a single small town.

Deer were occasionally seen crossing the highway; the towering creatures, over two meters tall, showed no fear of the cars, casually making their way across the road into the forest.

Elijah Hastings had prepared two off-road vehicles, two large motorhomes, and one truck used for supplies. Just the value of these vehicles was something that couldn’t be matched by mere tens of mammoth tusks.

They had plenty of supplies, including food, fuel, a generator, various tools, tents, and more.

Sean Knight and his team weren’t in a rush, taking in the scenery as they reached the Arctic Ocean.

Since Russia had begun to regulate the excavation of mammoth tusks, the week Elijah used for the preparations were split between buying supplies and handling excavation permits.

Fortunately, with Jack’s help, acquiring the permits went smoothly, so Sean and his team could legally excavate mammoth ivory without fear of getting caught.

Upon arrival, Viola made a phone call to her friend.

However, the call didn’t go through.

Viola looked apologetically at Sean.

"It’s okay, she might be busy," Sean said understandingly. "This is the only season for ivory excavation. They must be busy. Maybe she’s making a find right now."

Viola smiled, feeling somewhat embarrassed.

"Let’s go, let’s travel along the coastline for a while." The cars were getting difficult to navigate, but fortunately, all were large, four-wheel-drive vehicles, managing to go further into the jungle and finally stopped in a relatively flat area.

"We’ll camp here today," Sean declared. "Over the next few days, let’s explore nearby."

The ground here was permafrost, and the vegetation was sparse, which at least fit the geographical traits where mammoth tusks might appear.

This time, Sean Knight brought ten team members, each armed with a gun.

After all, many of those who dug for ivory did so illegally, without permits. Among them were desperados who could possibly harbor foul intentions upon an encounter.

The team members were experienced in setting up camp outdoors; they quickly cleared the area of shrubs and weeds, then leveled the ground and sprayed insecticide before starting to pitch the tents.

Given the cold, they used cotton tents, which were quite heavy; thus, teams of four or five set them up, then laid moisture-proof pads inside and constructed steel-framed beds.

The beds were elevated, topped with mattresses and then sleeping bags for warmth. After all, the cold from the ground could seep through several layers of moisture-proof pads.

A simple stove was then set up inside, making it warm and cozy, far more comfortable than sleeping in a hole in the ground.

Once the campground tents were set up, the perimeter’s makeshift security installations were also put into place, handled simply with two rolls of blade-embedded iron wire mesh. In this primitive jungle, the setup protected against both wild beasts and bad people.
